Single player RPGs just don't do it for me anymore.
I'm willing to try out FFTactics Advance, but don't have a GBA. They just seem so... stale. Hell, console RPGs in general, even the PC RPGs are getting very old for me. It's the same concept over and over and over again... is it just me, or are video games becoming less and less and less challenging? I feel like the only "skilled" games left are shooters, survival horror, and tactical espionage games... (RE, MGS, Half-Life2, Doom3). Even those are kinda stale, same old genre over and over and over again.
I heard Dungeons and Dragons online is coming out sometime next year, and I wonder what format that would be in... to be honest, I'd be THRILLED if it were pure text-based with few visuals involved, but that will never happen in this day and age. I'm too old school.
lol I guess I would prefer pen&paper over console RPGs because I'm actually interracting with people, which is why MMORPGs are so fun, because it's a new adventure whenever you log in and whatnot.
Has the MMORPG spelled death for RPGs? Well, I no longer have any desire to complete the final dungeon on Star Ocean 2 on PSOne or Star Ocean on PS2. When it comes down to it, I'd rather be talking to some friends or if I want "escapism", I'll turn off the TV and pick up a book... this is just a strange time for me you know I guess growing out of what I used to do/like to do, and it's like shedding a skin. I am outgrowing console games somewhat, don't even like RPGs anymore. I like some of the extreeme sports titles and Metal Gear games so much I guess because they're so interractive and the Metal Gear series really tell intriguing stories, and the gameplay's always fun and new in each installment.
Sorry for the pointless post, just typing to see myself write I guess. Wonder if anybody else goes through this outgrowing process... I'd like to think it's a sign of good things to come rather than being sorrowful, looking at it as if I'm leaving things behind.
