It's a 17" notebook with 3gb of ram, comes with Vista Premium, runs Centrino Duo (which has wireless N), and more importantly: an 8800 GTS video card with 512mb dedicated memory.
The processor is actually pretty crappy compared to what is in other processors, it's a Core2Duo T5450 that only runs at 1.66ghz, but because of the video card, it's able to play any PC game out there, including Crysis. It easily runs UT3 with near max settings, and the same goes for TF2. It runs PC games better than the "high end" Toshiba gaming laptops that have high end processors but only a crappy 8600m video card. The main CPU is easily upgradable in this laptop, and it's even possible to upgrade the screen without too much trouble. It also has an extra harddrive slot so you can sport two drives and even raid 0 or 1 them.
Working in retail, I've seen and worked on/setup MANY brand new laptops over the past few years, but this one stands out because of it's nice feature set and being just over $1000. I'm hoping this is a trend in gaming laptops to where they'll be much more affordable. Gateway did a great job by actually picking the right components for the right price. I was getting so sick of seeing tons and tons of features and nice CPU's with crappy video cards.
I tried Vista for several days (work on it a lot at work) to see how I like it, and I got sick of it. Just using the "surface" of Vista is ok, but once you start to get into th settings and configuring stuff, it's really annoying compared to XP, in my opinion. So I took Vista off and put XP on it and now I like it anymore. The only downside to going with XP is I can't get the HDMI out to send a sound signal, but that's a minor issue.
I've purchased three other laptops in the past 8 years and I returned all of them. I actually plan on keeping this one. I'm completely satisfied with this purchase. It really surprised me.
