and OMG this game is completely amazing.
I bought it with my Christmas money as a present for myself. I installed it yesterday and I actually spent just about the whole day playing it.
For those of you who dont know, Half-Life 2 is a FPS (First-Person Shooter) and a sequal (ofcourse, its 2) to Half-Life which is quite an older FPS and is considered by many to be one of the best FPS games/series on the market.
Now I own a Game of The Year Edition of Half-Life and to be honest, when I played it, it wasn't easy. I played it normally for a good while but then I just got fed up and just wanted to beat it real fast, so I used some cheats to speed the game along. It was still fun nevertheless and I finished the game. (mainly beat it quickly because I was also playing FFXI too at the time)
I never really played any of the games that Half-Life spawned; Blue Shield, and um.. I forget the other ones. They basically put you in a different persective in the whole Black Mesa mess (part of the story of the first Half-Life).
But, back to Half-Life 2. The game.. is incredible. The graphics, amazingly smooth and realistic. The action, completely compelling. I really didnt even want to stop last night and sleep. The absolute greatest thing about this game is just how fun it is, and how what your doing is consistantly changing. From driving a boat through water passages dodging bullet fire from a chopper on your back, to straight up shooting the crap out of enemies while not trying to get obliterated, to using the Gravity Gun and picking up almost anything and using as a weapon by launching it at your enemeies, to driving a go-kart like vehicle with a plasma cannon attached to the side.. oh man.. I havent had this much fun playing a FPS is a long time.
This game so far has consistantly kept me on the edge of my seat playing it. There are minor puzzles to solve in order to progress through some areas, makes you think a little bit. Not to mention the variety of weapons is fantastic. I absolutely love the Gravity Gun in this game, being able to pick up a circular saw blade and then launching it at something and cutting that target in half is so much fun.
The story itself, picks up right where the first Half-Life left off. Which.. was very open ended. So they used that, and created this whole different world, while a lot of the same characters from the original around and working them into the plot of the game. So far, im still trying to figure out what's what on the story. Yet, there's a basic storyline you follow at the moment (where I am in the game) and your just essentially doing one thing, which in the grand story is gonna help and only progress you further.
Man.. its just so fun. I'm gonna take a break from it though and get back to playing FFXI today. ^^ Tomorrow though.. HL2 for teh win!
