So I Got My Wii

I haven't gotten any additional SD cards for my system yet. I will see if the local GameStop I have to visit today has any 4gigs used so I can test it out. I've just been running off the 512 built in since I only have the 2 games for it so far. And since I can't download anything yet due to servers not being on, I haven't picked up an extra one.
Oh yeah, I have a question about that. How big are the save files for the games? I bought the 512 MB memory card instead of the 1 gig card, because I honestly couldn't see needing that much space for saves(sup 8 MB PS2 card) unless Nintendo decided to make massive save files for each game.

So would you only need a single memory card or is that size actually needed because of the games?

The 512 is enough to save a lot of games. The file sizes aren't any bigger than a 360 game save. The expandable memory is for those that will be downloading a lot of games from the Virtual Console.

Crap, I forgot about the virtual console stuff, maybe I should have gotten the 1 gig card.

Punchout
Mario RPG
and Kirby super star are going on asap onto my wii

I hope they release donkey kong country somewhat early on as well.

I have the originals too, but I'll be damned if my NES can go more than 10 minutes on punchout without freezing up.

Average SNES rom is only a couple kbs, maybe couple hundred kb, isn't it? Haven't delt with emulation in a good while.
But in any case, the only ones that might hog alot of space are the N64 roms.

Most SNES games I had were a few meg, not a big deal, but the N64 games would be much larger and would probably be what really kills my save space.

lol.

Possible SNES cartridge sizes range from 512kb (rare) to 6MB (also rare). Most are 2-4MB.

N64 games top out at 64MB (very rare - only like 3 games are actually this big - Pokemon Stadium GS, Resident Evil 2, and one other game whose title I can't recall). Next size down is 40MB (more common but still not frequently used). Most are 32MB or lower.

You're shitting me, N64 games were THAT small? I was expecting a few hundred meg each.

Yes.

Quite amazing, isn't it?

Theres also the fact that once you pay once, you don't need to pay again to redownload the game. So expandable memory for the Virtual Console is more convenience than necessity.

wtf, how can Zelda: Ocariana of Time and Zelda: Majora's Mask only be 64mb tops?

Wow, either the graphics are more horrible then I remember them to be, or... they're amazing at compromising <.<;

At the time, the graphics were amazing, now they look horrible; but then it was around 10 years ago, so that's to be expected. 64 Meg is incredibly small for the size of the games though, there was some serious compression involved.

Yeah. I just remember thinking the graphics were amazing at the time <.< I still remember them as amazing, although I haven't touched them since I beat them, lol

The only reason I know that the graphics look like crap now is I was replayed OoT master's quest on my gamecube. The control scheme sucked too, no camera controls ftl.

Actually, Zelda: OoT is 32MB.

Goldeneye clocks in at a whopping 12MB.

DOOM64 is an incredibly light 8MB.

F-Zero X comprises all of 16MB. Bigger than Goldeneye!

Super Smash Bros. is the same size as F-Zero X!

Paper Mario isn't even a 64MB cart - it's 40MB.

It isn't compromising, it's compression.
