So um.. wtf is this..

I've been following up on this thread.
By any chance, does an updated anti-virus library detect this known threat?

If it does, is it this "GJ.EXE-0FE22F95.pf" that Chasym posted on, or it is detected as a trojan with some kind of bizarre name like most viruses?

I never clicked on it. I've also made sure anyone else using the guest account did not do this. But to be safe, I conducted an in-depth search.

Hello again, Kam here. I thought I would pass by and see how some of you were getting on. If some of you are infected, I cleansed the test computer with the following, which is FREE.

http://www.download.com/Avast-Home-Edition/3000-2239_4-10634953.html

Thanks to those that emailed me and I apologise I could not offer much assistance as I did at the time. I had already ran the system by the HJT tool, which returned nothing interesting.

Once you have installed the Avast AVP program, follow its instructions and allow it to run a boot scan. This is where it will detect the infected files. Depending on the size of your system being how many files there are to be scanned, this will take some time. When it does detect the infected file. Attempt to repair files that appear to be Windows files (e.g. driver32.dll). If that fails, deletion is the only solution as it may be a smart-file (a disguised virus). Do not select Delete All, just to be lazy. If you wish to rescue your system, you will have to sit and monitor it.

There could be several files infected but most seemed to be TMP (temporary files and cabinet folders) files.

Best of luck!

Kam

i was in the same boat till this happened, any time some started a flame about missing items or stolen accounts it always ended up being a dumb-ass downloading a hack or giving his password out to the wrong people. hell i know not everyone will believe me when i say i didn't download any hacks other then windower and i'm fine with that lol, but to anyone using a PC to play:

Check for the file names given in this thread run your anti-virus scanners or even use a free on-line one different to your normal. and change your password if ANYTHING seems odd or different.
