Shikigami is an rdm type of NM with all typical weapon moves, plus all rdm spells.
Kite/DoT is out since there's no safe path for kiting(unless there's ppl clear the area for you). and what's more, the NM is not silencable(I found it the hard way)
You can't sleep/nuke too as it would build up resistance pretty quick. The first time I went as rdm/rng, and died to it at 87% after it starts to resist my sleep.
What I did was buff'd up and straight tanked it, kept a distance from the surrounding mobs, melee slowly with enspell, and it worked.
Hope that helps ^^
Wow, that's totally incredible.
As a fellow Rdm soloer I take my hat completely off to you. I have yet to conquer anything of that caliber with my Rdm/Nin
This post is pretty old, I actually saw it linked in another post; I wonder if you'll see this anyway, but I have to add my
Congratulations!
and also ask for some advice. I've been working on Rdm/Nin for a while now and originally developed a gear set for focusing on Fast Cast, Haste, and Acc gear. I bought a V Claok since the af2 hat or Morrigan's robe still are beyond my reach, and bought a quick belt for 2% haste since I still can't get a Swift Belt run pty.
Anyway, the reason I focused on Fast Cast and Haste is because I notice when trying to solo things that the timers for Utsu Ni with Ichi are still too high! Fast cast + haste of course shortens the recast times. I actually had all my /nin macros set for 2 piece gear switches in each macro to: switch to af body for spell interruption down + fast cast from af hat, then switch back to v cloak all in the same macro to get the refresh effect; because I believe the 2 strong points that allows any good rdm/nin to solo is keeping shadows up + refreshing mp; an rdm/nin with no mp = dead because you can't keep up haste or Slow2.
Then I saw a whole new area I overlooked, which was evasion. Evasion/parrying helps keep your extra 1 or 2 shadows, which advertently reduces the need for more haste/fast cast gear to reduce shadow casting timers. So now my new setup includes +40 parrying (2 duel rapiers, parrying tq. parrying earring, and af hands). My new focus still is on Fast Cast + refresh, which i've reserved for body and head gear switches(then eventually I'll be able to get a Loquacious earring). But now in every possible spot that I won't be using fast cast/refresh I've planned out priority: 1. parrying gear, 2. Agi gear, 3. Evasion gear.
I'm elvaan and have naturally low agi. With current gear I put out +40 parrying (still capping the 200 skill limit btw, so when I'm done it will be 240, eventually with af1+1 hands and boxers mantle it will go to 255) +20 agi, and I forgot how much eva, but the reason I didn't focus on eva when it caps 10 higher than parrying is because there isn't as much available +eva gear than there is +parry that I can use. so in the end, might as well put all into one skill hoping that it will evade more attacks with parrying, than try to balance eva + parrying to where I might not parry as much to something with a higher lvl than me. Agi of course helps both so I put that as second priority.
So with my current setup, the plan is to have the best defense, while putting out even the smallest dmg. Not like my goal is to put out minimal dmg mind you, but for soloing, endurance is key; so as long as you do some damage at all, if you never get hit = Win; but of course from your resume I know you're already in the know about all this.
My main question after explaining my situation is what can you advise to me of the direction I'm taking for my Rdm/Nin goals? I see your ss. you have the v cloak, but I see you're using a shield and a joyeuse. I also see that you spent mp to nuke it. What was your gear setup like? What's your answer to the best way to keeping shadows? Btw I know about timing between losing your last Ni shadow to casting Ichi, but like i said earlier, my main issue is casting timer, and holding out in order to keep shadows up. I've also limited my spells to save me mp. Slow2, refresh, the Utsus, haste, and SS just in case a shadow drops too soon.
What spells do you usually keep up regularly?
Sorry for all the questions. Me going on like this and spillling my entire rdm/nin ideals is because I truly respect you for this display of skill, and truly value any opinions you could give me, from Rdm to Rdm.
Thanks in advance,
Asuke
