So I'm finally at the stage in BLU where I can potentially solo imps. I was wondering what was the proper way to do it? I know spam spam spam with Head Butt and a DD spell is a way but I just wanted to how some of the more experienced BLUs go about it.

Pretty much spamming head butt with the big three. You can also snag extra MP before fighting another imp by using Magic Hammer from behind so they don't aggro you until you get it to land.

I've talked to a couple people that deviate from this, but it was what always worked for me. Gear yourself with enough accuracy, and bring hMP food. You will find you spend more time resting then fighting. Also, little tip, if you are in an area with no chance of an add, Actinic Burst can sometimes be like an extra Uts cast. And Head Butt is your best friend, lol.

I normally will try to start the fight by straight up smacking it, instead of pulling, because they open with a cast 100% of the time. So engage, hit > he starts casting > head butt. Chain affinity at the very start, before he amnesia's, then disseverment. On the hediva isle imps my CA disseverment at 10%~ tp does 700~1000. Then you can head butt or start with frenetic rip/hysteric barrage. Basically comes down to spamming, head butt if your lossing shadows quick, big three if they're not.

I rest after chain 1, 2, and 3, to full mp, and then burn through chain 4,5, and very rarely 6. Hediva isle imps have a little more evasion and hp than the mire imps, but give alot more exp. I easily get 8k/hr soloing casually, and up to 12k/hr if I try hard to manage mp.

Also, most the time I don't even equip hysteric barrage, i get more from using my points on str stats. And you need to have a good amount of hmp for big chains. 500 mp is all you need to even hit chain 6, as long as you have an ass load of str/dex.

Yeah, forgot to mention this. If you do pull, make sure you are barely in range for ranged attack, so you can run out of range of an aoe. They seem to have Fast Cast, so if you arent far enough from them, you will not outrun the aoe. It is possible to survive after getting hit with one, but it usually will be a close call (being Taru, these normally put me right into red because of low HP). Also, don't get discouraged if you die. I died alot in the beginning.

I always preferred to solo imps in the area by the Flayers – shitty to get to the camp on top the hill in Hediva Isle but the camp is 99% of the time empty and is perfect for chaining since there are a lot of imps there. The traits I would set were: Acc Bonus, Refresh, Conserve MP and all the Clear Mind I could stack. With my hMP gear set and clear mind, I would get 43 mp from the first rest tick.

Unlike the other guys recommended, I would always pull with RA and set myself and wait for the imp to come to me so that I could start casting Frightful Roar from the max distance possible (great def down with low MP cost) then Disseverment > Head Butt > Hysteric Barrage > Head Butt > Utsu: Ni > Frenetic Rip > Head Butt. By this time Disseverment is usually up again and depending how merited you are, a Disseverment or a Diss > Hysteric will usually kill it off.

I always (600 mp start: gear and 8/8 mp merits) fought chain 0 imp, full rest , chain 1 imp , full rest, chain 2 imp, full rest, chain 3 imp, almost full rest, Chain 4 then Chain 5 Imp (if lucky). Exp at lvl 75 usually went 280, 330, 380, 420, 480, 517 (chain 5). It is fun with anni band to get 1000+ exp on a chain 5 imp =P

I enjoyed soloing on BLU so much that I gave up meriting on my BRD when I still played to solo merit on BLU. I never soloed imps lower then lvl 75 so I am unsure what spells and spell order to use for those lvls but solo BLU is very very fun.

After a bit of trial and error with a buncha setups and techniques, I've come up with one solution for soloing imps:

SPAM

I've tried things like using Diamondhide, Refueling, casting fresh Utsu, Cocoon, opening with Sprout Smack, then spamming 1 each of the big 3, with a buncha head butts, and building TP so I can solo Distortion on the next imp.

That was pretty safe but yeah, it burned up MP fast and slowed me down a bit.

I just equip Cocoon, big 3, vertical cleave, head butt, Conserve MP and Clear Mind, and the rest is balls out STR. Cast Utsu and Cocoon, go in, CA Disseverment, head butt, frenetic, head butt, hysteric, head butt, vertical.

Then I go full HMP with dark staff. If I've taken heavy damage, I'll swap out a spell for magic fruit as soon as I /heal. By the time MP is full cooldown is good, cast a Fruit, swap it back out, get utsu ready and wait out cooldown timer. Helluva lot faster than the previous way. Much less MP used.

I don't actually solo imps much anymore though. XP in a few decent campaigns is nearly as fast but with the added bonus of raking in Allied Notes to sell Sigil gear.

Either do Campaign or just merit on BLU. Contrary to war/sam/mnk/nin/drg epeen, BLU is one of the highest parsing jobs on Colibris. And I'd have to say our invite rate for merit has increased a lot lately, as awareness grows of the job's potential at that camp.

The only issue I see with this is swapping Magic Fruit in and out. You are actually wasting 1 minute that you don't have to each kill (swapping back out after curing). Plus, I've survived a couple of times just by having it set. Nothing hurts more then an AOE due to a missed Headbutt.

Edit: And yeah, as to the colibri camp, I was shocked at how much dmg I can do to them. Had I think 3 of the above mentioned jobs in my party, and I was pulling hate more then 1/2 the time. Wish someone had been able to parse us (I don't know how well the other jobs were geared/merited).

the tip I have for you for starting your imp fights is well, this is how I do it and it's quite effective.
I engage the imp and smack it with mah swords, depending on the first spell it casts, rasp, aspir, the small stuff, hit it with a CA disseverment. If it starts casting tierIII or -ga spells smack it with a headbutt, then continue the fight as given to you in the above posts. That's all I have to offer XD

If you have the spare points, Sprout Smack casts quickly, deals ok damage for the MP, and the Slow effect sticks pretty often.

I dont see how you're struggling with imps Choco, what you're doing is almost exactly the same as what I do. Only difference is I dont open with Sprout Smack, nor do I even bother to equip it. Heres my spell set see if it helps:

Battle Dance, Head Butt, Uppercut, Frenetic Rip, Disseverment, Vertical Cleave, Firespit, Chaotic Eye, Refueling, Metallic Body, Cocoon, Plasma Charge, Magic Fruit, Actinic Burst, Bludgeon. I tend to fully buff first, shadows, Metallic Body, Cocoon, Refueling, and when I run in I tend to open up with Head Butt since most imps like to start with an aga, sleep, or some other spell, then go in with Disseverment first, followed up by another Head Butt, get a few melee swings in, Head Butt again, then end it with Frenetic Rip (and if necessary, Bludgeon). After the first imp its a cake walk since I tend to have TP availalbe to opend up with Chain Affinity: Savage Blade > Disseverment = Distortion (which tends to knock the imp down to 50%ish).

I do the same as well but when you get amnesia it's hard to pull off unless you open it on the next imp, but yeah I usually follow this as well.

Well the above statement is assuming you time your head butts right to stun amnesia and silence :) granted it can be hard if you dont have a proper haste/fast cast build for head butt though......

oh, of course :]
I time my spells going from: head butt > disseverment > head butt > frenetic rip > head butt > hysteric barrage > head butt
and of course throw in utsusemi: Ichi/Ni whenever i get the chance to.

We should go duo sometime =P
