A bit of a long read so spoilering

Spoiler:
1. I've been having some issues with my ffxi game, the music constantly skips(about 3 times then goes back to normal every 30 secs or so), I don't use .dats or anything but windower. It could be a problem with that itself since I'm using the 3.2 ver btw. It's wasn't a big deal until recently. Do I need to reinstall my ffxi discs? Or do I have too little memory left on my comp? (46% free). Or do I need to use the new windower as the new updates may have slowed the older version down a bit?

2. This question ties into number 1 somewhat, I've been recently using my friends thf to dualbox limit points from campaign... Everytime I log on my char and then their char, the one I don't actively use starts to dc; however if I put something such as firefox as my main window "in between" them they neither disconnects... By the way this is in no lag zones such as la theine plateau and east ron, the results seemed the same when in a semi lag zone such as campaign so I'm inclined to think the issue is on my side.

I've dualboxed before albeit a long time ago, but I never had that sort of problem before

3. Dancing Edge

Spoiler:
http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Calculating_Weapon_Skill_Damage

If I understand that correctly then for weapon skills such as Dancing Edge with odd modifiers it would be better or best(?) to use str in places you do not have a lot of chr or you have a greater build of str than any other random amount of chr you add, then it would be best to focus on str for Dancing Edge correct?

ie

Let's say you have 68 + 20str and 50+ 10 chr...

Would this be potentially better than...

68+ 30 str and 50+0 chr?

Basically in a nutshell I'm trying to understand for weapon skills that use modifiers with gear you usually do not wear, is it better to stack on that or put the rest of the gil twoards str gear on physical wses?

4.Evisceration

Spoiler:
is modified by dex but it is a different story for Rdm(read: just this job application).

I have more str than dex...usually i have +11 str and +17dex on my rdm, I'm an elf so given my ability to higher str would it be better to have more str for this weapon skill than dex? I'm also factoring in attack+ which I have a decent amount of.

ogre head,legs= +20, aj=18, 2 x coral= +10, amemet=+10 or 58+ attack

I'm finding that with this ws my damage fluctuates a lot, usually the ws shows in terms of damage that Att > Str > Dex. Att and Str seem roughly equal but att only shows up slightly higher.

Which stat should I focus on for evisceration for rdm?

Yeah it's a bit long so thanks ahead of time

1/2. When SE added the "official" windowed mode, they also added a "feature" to the game that forces it into a lower priority mode when the window loses focus. If your primary window is Firefox, the system has enough resources left over for the low priority processes to keep the game running stable.

If your primary window is another XI window, most of your resources go to that and leaves you with very few for the background low priority processes - which causes the other XI window to lag out because not enough system time is keeping it active.

Check windower.net. I would suggest grabbing

A. the newest version of Windower

B. the priority plugin - it bypasses the low proirity trigger and forces the system to keep the priority level normal.

It could be that the priority switches are causing your system to lag, so this may well fix both these issues in one go - #2 will be fixed for sure though.

3/4. The important thing to note is that for any and all weapon based damage, not only are you worried about secondary modifiers like the __% STR etc., you're also worried about the primary modifiers like fSTR and pdif.

Generally speaking, even for a weapon skill with no secondary STR modifier, you're still better off just raising STR since you'll boost both fSTR and pdif that way, increasing your base damage. If there's a slot you simply can't add STR in for a weapon skill, go for a secondary modifier, but keep acc in mind too because a miss in a multi-hit weapon skill will hurt your damage far more than even fairly large stat gains can compensate for.

So for the specific answer, don't even bother boosting CHR at all for Dancing Edge.

Now for Thieves it's a LITTLE different because of the extreme bonus Sneak Attack gets from DEX.. but I'm personally not terribly familiar with the mechanics of that. As I understand it it's still better to raise STR given equal potential for STR and DEX gains but I'm not positive on that, I'll let someone else cover it...

okay I just downloaded the new windower and the priority .dll and it's in my folder, I've opened both chars up but the same problem is occuring.

What commands should I put into the priority .dll to make it work?

You've got to load the plugin. I haven't used windower in a long time, but the file's called like startup.ini or something. Someone else would be able to explain better than me though.

Go into the scripts folder, open init.txt in notepad, and under Load Plugins add the line "load Priority". That'll make it autoload the plugin next time Windower starts.

yep that works thanks again^^

also I understand to make the cursor auto drag to your commands open like with macros and such I need to put a "1" somewhere correct? Where does it go?

Under Set game variables in init.txt, change this -

game_allowsetcursorpos 1

That'll fix that setting.

Consider the following scenarios for multi-hit WS:

Low Accuracy, Low Attack (relative to what you are fighting)
Results in an inconsistent WS damage and overall low WS average.

High Accuracy, Low Attack (relative to what you are fighting)
Results in a consistent WS damage, but low WS average.

Low Accuracy, High Attack (relative to what you are fighting)
Results in a inconsistent WS damage. Damage will spike radically depending on how many hits land.

High Accuracy, High Attack (relative to what you are fighting)
Results in a consistent WS damage, and overall moderate to high WS average.

To get more consistent results from multi-hit WSs, the most important factor is having enough Accuracy to land all the hits. Now accuracy alone will only net you more consistent WS damage. To determine if your WS damage will be low, moderate, or high primarily depends on the defense/VIT rating of the mob you are fighting.

I know you were asking about WS Modifiers, but based on my experience, you will see more net gain from gearing Accuracy and Attack then piling on DEX and STR. But to answer your Dancing Edge question more directly, it would be silly to sacrifice STR for CHR. STR also increases your overall attack (though a relatively small boost) as well as other effects such as the ones Tagrenith has mentioned. As for Evisceration, I would gear in terms of Accuracy > Attack > STR slightly greater then or equal to DEX. Keeping in mind Evisceration has the potential to crit, so the extra DEX may offset the advantages of STR.

The above does not take into account the bonuses gained from DEX when using Sneak Attack; however, THFs will still see more consistent and higher WSs from using a High Accuracy/High Attack build then stacking straight STR and DEX without regard to Accuracy and Attack. To achieve the best Accuracy/Attack/STR/DEX ratio for Dancing Edge and Evisceration is different for every THF and thus individual testing is required to see what works best for them.

Thieves don't need accuracy gear if they're using Sneak Attack.

Not entirely true, SA does not guarantee all hits of a multihit WS. However, thieves will be equipping lots of DEX versus STR that other melee use, so in a way, they already are using accuracy gear.

Actually, they do, SA (and TA post 60) only guarantees the first hit of a multihit WS (dancing edge or evisceration). They still need some accuracy to land all 5 hits.

I should have added by the way that I'm only using the thief in campaign which as anyone can say with just some gear you don't have acc issues I rarely miss 1 hit or 2 with my rdm much less the thief.

I'll have to remember that if I want to use the thief against birds though thanks^^.

eh one last question for thieves

I have currently

2 hoplites
1 sirocco
1 heart snatcher
1 thief knife

As I understand for the best low delay combo it would be best to use heart snatcher/ sirocco until i get a blau to main haind and replace heart snatcher? For pure base I would go wtih dual hoplies or use a hoplite and offhand sirocco correct?

And about Assault Jerkin and Dragon Harness, should I just use DH for SA and TA and ws in AJ(using just DE) for the best damage or is it better to use Dragon Harness?

Going by cherron's post att+ would do more for me than the stats themselves if i ever wanted to use evisceration or shark bite.

Heart Snatcher is good to npc for the... 6k gil? Hop/sirocco is best bet I would say.

i was thinking heartsnatcher had some use as an offhand with hoplite in main for just increasing the base for weaponskills, that's about it besides the above mentioned heartsnather/sirocco for fastest setup(ignoring thief knife)

I would stick with Hoplites/SK over Heart Snatcher/SK. The Heart Snatcher only has 5 less delay then the Hoplites Harpe which is pretty much negligible in terms of speed. At lvl 70 you may wish to switch to Magnet Knife/SK if you can manage to find one. Magnet knife has the same base damage as Hoplites Harpe with less delay and cheap too!

As for the AJ and DH debate, I would say the difference is small in favor of DH. If you are stacking both SA and TA then DH will win hands down.

On the contrary to multi-hit WSs and THFs, it would be more beneficial to stack DEX for Shark Bite. The reason being Shark Bite is only a 2 hit WS. The majority of the damage is coming from the first hit which is most likely to be coupled with either SA or TA which also receives a damage bonus from DEX (or AGI).

okay, then i should keep the dex gear after i use sneak attack on? and the same applies with ta right?

I thought it just had to be equipped once for the job abilities then switch to str and attack unless it's a dex ws.

DEX Gear needs to stay on for both Sneak Attack and WS to get the DEX related damage bonus. Same applies to AGI and Trick Attack.

Actually most of the time a thf is subbing /nin so sharkbite is in actuality a 3 hit ws due to the extra offhand strike(which has 100% acc if you used sneak attack or trick attack). It's still a safer bet to pile on the dex than worry about the atk of the extra hit due to dex mods and offhand weapon usually having a lower dmg but it's just something to remember when considering multi hit procs. Eg if you merit assassin's charge then try and remember to take the brutal earring off if you are going to use DE since you cant get any extra hits during DE after a triple and if DA takes priority over Triple(which takes priority is unknown to me atm) then you just screwed yourself out of an extra hit.
