Some good ideas and Mods good for a RPG related place.

Ok, I have been in many message boards, and I think this are some good ideas for an RPG based forum. I don't know if the service providers of this message board allow you to add your own mods, or if you know well how to work with the codes, but I suppose so it is:

RPG mod: Mod where players can make their characters and buy them armor, level up, fight, etc, like in an RPG online game.

Cash mod: Mod in which members can earn points (you can call it money, gil, etc.) while doing certain actions like posting messages, etc.

Shop Mod: A mod that makes a section that is a virtual shop in which you use the virtual money you earn thanks to the Cash Mod I mentioned before.

Pet mod: A mod that allows you have your own pet that you can buy with the virtual money, buying the pet food, taking care of it, etc.

New skin: A new design/template for the message board to make it look even better.

Avatar Gallery: There are a lot of mods around that give avatar image galleries from different things. I know most have Final Fantasy avatars with other anime and video game avatars. It would be nice.

Fast Reply mod: A mod that allows you the fast reply option, instead of clicking the reply post button. Good for short replies to topics.


There are many other mods and ideas I have in mind, but I think these I suggested are more than enough ^^

Of course, I am only suggesting. You don't have to add them, but they are very nice and attractive additions to a message board that is based in a video game I think you can get a complete list of good mods in http://www.phpbb.com or something like that, although I think you know it.

Even though Pupusa is running QCDN now, I think I will reply to this one with some reasoning behind this semi-vanilla installation of phpBB.

Generally speaking mods take up bandwidth. More popular mods take up more bandwidth. In the early days of QCDN bandwidth was a bit of an issue. Now it is less of a problem as the account comes with 100 GB and afaik only about 20 GB are being used.

In addition I didn't want to install mods that would have the potential of screwing things up.

It would be up to Pupusa whether to install additional mods at this time, but from my perspective it only makes sense to do so if a large number of the current users would actually use mods, as it is a bit of a pain to keep track of which files were modded during phpBB upgrades.

Currently users can not add their own mods, the potential for major screw-ups is just too high.

One problem I see with cash mods is that they tend to generate too much "noise", because people start posting just to earn cash and not to keep on topic or contribute to the discussion.

A different template would be easy to implement, if you have any particular template in mind, please let us know. I am not aware of any FFXI themed phpBB template and haven't really found any other that had an RPG or FFXI look and feel to it, but then again, I haven't spend much time on it either.

Fast Reply mod is certainly an option, again it wasn't added at a time bandwidth was an issue, but now it would probably be ok to use it.

While the idea of mods has crossed my mind in the past, I would only install mods that would be beneficial to the forum as a whole, I'm not looking to add something just for more posts/spam.

I would perhaps like to add a new template, or a avatar gallery related to FFXI only, but it still is up in the air.

I like the suggestions, but the cash/pet/shop mods probably won't happen, that just leads to spamming and such, and it just doesn't benefit the community as a whole. I'll see what I can do to make the forums more exciting though.

It is logic because I have seen what these RPG mods kinda make to the message board, and it is true that there is too much spam.

I had a Final Fantasy avatar gallery mod in my PC. I will check if it is still there, and probably look for a way to send it or anything like that if posible. ^^

About a new FF or RPG themed skin, I will keep looking. I think I know a good place to look for it.

I hope I can contribute to the QCDN, and make it even beter.

The template system is very easy to change in phpBB; it is not hard to change the look of the board with out altering its functionality. I wish they would hurry up and release phpBB 2.2 as it adds a lot of great features to the package.
