I saw this on Blue Gartr just a few minutes ago. It looks like we've got a glimmer of hope on the horizon for all our friends who were targeted by the ne'er-do-wells who'd take accounts.

Jeny from BG said:
As some of you already know, Square-Enix has begun the lock down of compromised accounts. They are currently working on a new policy regarding this and should be in effect come mid-next week.

Earlier today I was able to call in and have my account completely locked from being accessed. As well as by boyfriend's account, Sparthos.

I advise everyone who's had their account hacked to do the same.

Don't be afraid. Call them up. They won't give you the run-around.

Just have the usual things ready with you before you call up.

-Member ID
-Name on the account (They may ask for handle names.)
-Date of Birth
-Full Address
-Playonline Registration Code (Please make sure you have this with you.)

Depending on how busy the higher ups are during the time you call, they may or may not forward you to one, but the rep/manager will ask you a few questions regarding your account such as:

-Name of your character and mules (Make sure they get the spelling correct.)
-Name of your original server
-Date and time you last logged in
-Date and time you were hacked/logged off
-Last zone/area you were last in before you were hacked

Also depending on who collects this information from you, the representative will make a note to their manager to lock the account or the manager himself will lock it immediately.

Luckily I spoke to a very kind higher up and he was able to lock Jeny with no trouble at all.

One last thing they will ask for is a means of contacting you.
Just leave them your Phone Number and E-mail address.

As far as the new policy goes, they aren't releasing any information to the public just yet, but it should be going into effect next week, and they will contact us when they are ready to start the retrieval of our accounts.

Please don't waste any time in calling SE up.

As soon as Monday rolls around, get your accounts locked from further access to them.

Unless SE is really some kid operating out of his garage, there is no way that the change in CC number and the data regarding gear being dropped and sold is not recorded someplace. It is about fucking time they got off their lazy asses and did something! That is all it really comes down to, someone has to research the stories and weed out the fakes and the real ones.

Now we wait...

at least they are freezing the accounts that are hacked, which is helpful

This is a good start to get people's account back, and hopefully they're finally listen to us client. I don't know did they went to this new direction because of the petition... either way, it look like a promising turn of event

It wasn't the petition alone, SE does read BG so they've read threads regarding hacked and comprimised accounts; it's good to see a nice start but they've had a habit of giving things a good start and not finishing them

lets hope this is different, come on sou!

This is where problems occur as some of those are changed soon as the account is compromised.

semi-good news so far, but we still have to see exactly what they're gonna do before we get too happy.

the only thing that can be changed from those 5 is the address, so i'm not sure if they mean old address or what. if it's old and they have old records, that'll be great.

they do record all the changes and so on for x amount of time, because ive changed it and forgot my pw, they asked for my old adress and not the new one listen >.>

If the people who are hacked start to do this and it can work a majority of the time then this will surely lead to less people losing their accounts =), though RMT may just get all the sellable gear off instead of just keeping the account..

I'm glad to see that SE is actually doing something to help their customers. Although, it's pretty sad that they didn't implement some type of security for this type of circumstance in the first place.

people will still bitch, and already have. atleast they are doing something.

bump - i think this should be added to the sticky threads if it is lagit

Policy did change. I alled PoL today, and the representative took the additional info and said he hopes the superadvisor will be able to call me this week, but that if not, he WILL for sure call.

Got the same

Its a definite step in the right direction.

These kind of measures shouldn't have been necessary right away. Keep in mind the actual HACKING (aka accounts compromised by anything other than stupidity) didn't start until pretty recently afaik.

Great news though.

Wow, this is great news ! I hope to see some of you back soon. Especially you Soujiro ! I was just dumbfounded to find out you got hacked..

well it's about time. i'm glad something is finally being done.

A friend at work said an account he had access to that was passed around several times was suddenly recovered by the original owner. :)

Anyhow, he said he knows several people that've gotten their accounts back now by verifying their birthdate and all of the information on their accounts.

EDIT: fixed the first sentence...
