Gamer juggles over 30 Warcraft characters
Oct 13, 2008

Think you play too much World of Warcraft?

Compared to "Prepared," you don't.

In a case of game addiction gone officially bananas, gaming blog Joystiq reports on what is surely the biggest Warcraft fan of them all. Known only under the moniker "Prepared," the gamer plays a stunning 36 World of Warcraft accounts on 11 different computers...simultaneously.

Stemming from a desire to manage raids -- large-scale gameplay sessions that typically require the teamwork of multiple players -- all by himself, the die-hard gamer seems undaunted by both the financial and lifestyle commitments to such a geeky endeavor.

"It costs me exactly $5711 in subscription costs per year with 36 accounts on the 6 month pay schedule," he writes. "Not bad considering I'm looking at it like it's a hobby and there are more expensive hobbies out there than World of Warcraft."

Like yachting, perhaps. And despite the downturn in the economy, Prepared can't wait to get his hands on the upcoming Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King.

"I plan to be at the store when it opens and will purchase 36 copies of it. With tax, it should be about $1500 for all of them."

Word of Prepared's over-the-top addiction comes on the heels of the annual Blizzcon Convention, a fan-oriented celebration of the games created by Warcraft publisher Blizzard.

And I thought Nightmare of FFXI was crazy for playing a few characters at once.

Wow... at least he has a life and can explain himself (according to the article).

A hobby is a hobby is a hobby, no matter what it is.

I also love how the people who commented on the articles are praising him yet when the 18 hour fight on PW came out they were ridiculing the people who fought for not having a life...

The dude has got it made. He clearly has a steady flow of cash coming his way with whatever he does in real life and he could wreck the fuck out of anyone he sees in seconds. What the article doesn't tell you is that Prepared used the exp boost given from the "Recruit-A-Friend" service on all of his characters and got all of them to 70 without any effort at all. There's also an addon for WoW that mimics any keystroke used on different accounts copying all of the attacks he uses throughout all of his shamans. There's a difference between spending a few hours blowing up everything you see successfully and spending 18 hours trying to kill a horribly developed endgame boss. You're just mistaking his lavish spending habits for not having a life.

I have been reading up on how he achieves all of this and after learning about it...it sounds extremely boring. From what I've learned he has all of the same class(shaman was it?) where all he had to do was control 1 of his characters and then the rest would follow his commands so all he had to do was cast one magic spell or whatever on the target and the rest would follow and it would kill it. Correct me if I'm wrong on any of those facts, that's just what I've read.

A year or two ago wasnt there a couple that played 13 each and had a bunch of monitors etc ?

I don't care how nifty it is, having 5 Shamans run after you in a train is never fun :(

It doesn't take any effort at all to reach lvl 70 even without an exp boost.

Oh wow that guys takes his hobby very seriously lol.

I could have sworn I saw something similar over a year ago.
