Alrighty, I took over a friend's account, mostly because I'm too lazy to start over. She was quitting and it would of been deleted anyway.

Sooo, her main is Thief lv 50. I was a White Mage. Never played melee before, I don't even think I leveled my Thief at all on my old character. So I'm a bit in the dark.

My current Gear setup is as follows:

Head: Emp. Pin
Neck: Spike Necklace
Body: Iron Musketeer's Gambison +1
Hands: Noct Gloves +1
Legs: Noct Brais +1
Feet: Noct Gaiter +1
Ring: Marksman's Ring
Ring: Crossbowman's Ring
Back: Nomad Mantle
Waist: Swordbelt +1
Main: Bone Knife +1
Offhand: Same

I believe my attributes are DEX +10 and AGI +7 I was told DEX and AGI were what thf's worked on.

So am I way off? Help Please! ^^;;

THF Question

Sadly, thf is not a job that you can really pick up on the fly at lvl 50 (you might be able too but most people can't - Look at all the threads about A) Shitty thfs and B) THFs get no merit PTs etc. I would honestly start a mule and lvl its thf to 40 so you can figure out the whole SATA thing prior to trying to start at lvl 50.

If you try and start at lvl 50, you will probably spend from lvl 50-60 learning the job and your pts will probably not be very good due to an inexperienced thf trying to pull, manage hate, DD, SC and use RA debuffs etc isnt easy to learn at mid-levels with no experience on melee jobs.

DEX = SA modifier
AGI = TA modifier

THF is one of the jobs that heavily uses equip macros - you will need an Evasion setup, SATA Setup, SA WS setup, TA WS setup, TP build setup.

The last thing I can say is that you will probably have to start 80% of your PTs since THF already had a hard time getting a PT pre-2H upgrade and since thf didnt get anything to compete with all of the 2h wars, drks, sams, drgs, etc you will probably get invites less and less since it looks like PLDs are making a comback.

Heh, this is what I was afraid of. ^^; I've never paid much attention to THF, or any melee job really. There is alot more to it then just SATA and pulling.

But for arguments sake, lets say I decide to try and work my through learning the job. What would your reccomended setups be, gearwise for lv 50+?

not sure if this helps later on but asking sneaky about a dagger ages ago maybe this old pm will help when you get higher up

Hey man is Hornetneedle ever replaced or not used at 75?

I was considering using it for my rdm but I'm kinda for utility and use and not just for a few lvs

do you use it to just shorten delay or to inflict more DoT?

i figure a thf would know best

Well we know it shortens delay, but all daggers at level 68+ received a nice bump in damage a while back. I'm not sure which daggers RDM can use offhand, but I can tell you what would be better.

Low delay is great, but make sure to get something that also has good damage and enhances stats. Rich BRD and RDM go with Blau Dolch for damage. As I mentioned I don't know what daggers RDM can use, but look for a combo of low delay, attack, STR and DEX...Anything offensive.

Misericorde +1, Behemoth +1, Blau are all fine choices. They are each different in their own right.

Why a THF choose a dagger will be different than the reasons a RDM chooses a dagger. THF have Triple Attack, and with full merits in Triple Attack and Dagger, as well as much haste, acc, and attack....The more you swing, the more you DoT under those conditions. Triple attack merits and trait give you triple attack procs X amount of the time, so the more you swing, the more often you have a shot at triple attacking based on that same percentage.

Let's say you are a THF with a Harpe class weapon versus a THF with a Sirocco Kukri. 60 delay difference. Each swing, those 60 delay keep adding up. Over an hour, you've swung plenty more with the Sirocco. Your triple attack proc percentage remains the same no matter what weapon you wield. For sake of argument, 20% of the time was triple attacked....Many more triple attacks with lower delay, meaning more tp over time. Less base dmg than Harpe class, but you make it up with more WS performed. Also having tp available sooner means a THF is more flexible with SA+WS or TA+WS or both nearly every 30 seconds.

RDM don't need to think about all that. So go for a good balance if you are getting one dagger. Blau is 33 base dmg under 100 tp and at time of ws. As well as having hidden 16 attack and 5 accuracy. And also being a very nice low delay.

Hornetneedle is definitely dated at 68+.

credit to sneak of course
