I've been pumping out pages for the newspaper (Neyla is a slave driver!) and getting ready to start on the obituary page in a few minutes.

Ouch, Obits. They shoved ya there or you volunteer?

Obituaries, as with our section fronts and inside pages, revolve from one designer to the next. There are four copy desk people (me, Neyla and two others) who takes turns on these things, so I get saddled with Obits at least once a week.

Wonderful, I'm sure the deceased appreciate your hard work. Then again, I suppose it's more for the families sake.

Nah, not really. The families of the deceased don't really notice our work unless we fuck something up. My particular favorite was the time I used a dead person's mugshot in a beauty pageant story by placing it with all the other contestant mugshots. That was a special day. The way I had packaged it, I believe the dead gal placed fourth.
