Something interesting I discovered earlier.

My brief experiment in Gustaberg interested me if for no other reason than that my damage capped out at 339, regardless of my STR. In TP, 339. In WS gear, 339. In WS gear with /WAR, Beserk, and Last Resort... 339.

With what weapon? I'm at the same cap with Berserker's, I thought most DRK-preferred toys were above and beyond the dmg base of that.

A higher base dmg wouldn't make a difference if you were already at the cap.

so based on reading this SE just removed the ability to crit att for 2-handed wpns

Base dmg ups the formula does it not? Doesn't sound right that every weapon in the game has the same ultimate dmg cap.

To the OP -
No, it's definitely a damage cap. I merited earlier tonight as mentioned, and my crits with Fortitude were around 210-235, and with Byakko's 299-344.

Normal hits, respectively, were 88-180 and 150-210

Edit:
To Cmdr-

Apparently not. It seems with this new addition, we're at a very prominent cap now on damage, since the defenses of mobs were weakened to our hits as well. Normally the higher base damage would contribute to a higher formula base, but it's apparent now there's a damage cap.

I was using Tred scythe, and wasn't lingering overmuch over it. I should probably have gone back and tried again with Subduer or something else with a lower base damage, but well... I'm easily distracted, and I wanted to see if any new grips had shown up on the AH...

You crit 339 with Fortitude?

I didn't want to waste stones on Too Weak enemies, but here's what I capped out at -

Jesus H Christ... if Berserker's wasn't so beautiful then there'd be even less reason to have one nowadays. If a 64-dmg weapon can come within 9 points of cap on a 95-dmg weapon...

Tomorrow's sponge should have some beefy info. Will you be on Mistra? Group is full atm but in case someone can't make it I'd like to throw that thing in the variables again.

Yes I will be, a bit later in the afternoon. I'll just sub NIN for stability like I did last night if you want me to come.

We'll see who's missing if anyone doesn't make it... but again survivability is the last thing to consider for this sponge parse. I'll look you up when we head out to let you know if we do or don't need a filler.

I went back and tried with Subduer (303) and lolScythe of Trials before I turned it in (297).

I'm starting to wonder about their calculations... o_O;

Alright. I promise I won't forget Fowler's tonight. I didn't forget last night.

I also picked myself up a Mythril Grip +1. Stats seemed pretty solid to me.

that applies to my avatars too. if i fight pretty much any uber weak mob the dmg is always the same. crit hits & normal hits.

How much? I think that's gonna be my preferred choice... Platinum+1 looks good but no mods, plus Mythril+1 adds 2atk.

Snagged mine for roughly 95k, but they are on the rise. Get one soon, or you'll wait forever for the price to drop.

Edit: Additionally, just looked into this further.

Seems the 2h update is offering us a cap on pDIF more easily now, which would account for why most of us have not encountered this yet. If you would let me tonight (Should you need another body) I would like to come WAR/THF to test the effectiveness or reduced effectiveness of Sneak Attack. The tests in Batallia were inconclusive due to capped pDIF.

Oh yes I see this being adjusted lol. I still can't figure out why SAMs got the boost, seriously was no need for a SAM boost. Just made an already leet job even leeter.. if thats a word. But its great to finally see some variety, this is something that should have been done a long time ago.

SAM didn't get the boost directly, ALL 2-handed weapon wielders are benefitting from the update. SAM is just the most common job that uses a two-handed weapon, so that's what's mostly being reported on. DRG's and DRK's are getting huge numbers too.
