This isn't really a flame I guess but I felt I should post it here.

Last night I was Partying with my level 30 PLD friend with my level 30 DRK ( ;_; ) in Yhoat. It takes us awhile but we manage to get a 30 WHM/BLM (Zeromous), 28 WAR/NIN (Apophus), 30 RNG/NIN (Shira something or another...), and a 29 THF/WAR (Blitzner).

After quite a bit of time getting everything together we all end up in Yhoat, the PT seems to go fine so far taking on the usual mandies and what not although my friend the PLD is having some trouble keeping the hate at times you can say but he wasn't doing a terrible job. Also I should point out that the RNG was japanese, and was pulling a little too quickly at times. I really should have said something but I think my empress band was blinding me with 300 +exp...>_>

After about 4 or so fights the THF levels up and get's to level 30 and get's SATA. So yay, lots of damage to come. But my PLD friend hasn't really had much experiance in setting up SATA so he didn't really know to not stop moving for a few fights. But any way, hates going all over the place and the tank can't seem to keep hate since we're all just doing so much off the mob. After a few more fights and a few gobs the puller decided to pull I started to spam "Let's rest for awhile." The puller listens so we rest.

At that moment I feel that I should come up with a plan of having a good sata set up and a few other things we can do to keep the hate (Like having the PLD and WAR sharing the hate). But soon Blitzner sends me a tell talking about how shitty my friend is at tanking, I tell the guy to relax and we can all settle this by having a good plan and what not. He doesn't seem to care and just logs off. Any way the WHM disbands for whatever reason and soon we're left all alone.

Now I can understand why Blitzner was mad but he didn't really try to better the situation like I proposed. Instead he fights about 10 monsters, levels up and leaves. Left me kind of angry I guess that he wouldn't help with the solution, we could have had a good pt going.

But any way, I think the leasson is, to have good pt communication, and to give those who are still learning their roles a chance, don't just get pissed and leave but try and help them.

Oh....this also seems to be my first topic here....>_>

lol, it was his friend...

You should've talked to him, discussed in between battles. Though I do not agree with the deserting guy, you should not have waited so long. We all know how fast many people log off after levelling.

Kazham is a hard(er) time for first-time Tankers. With Thief just learning SATA, and most people in Elshimo kinda newbs still, no one really knows how to set it up. Just gotta explain to him exactly what he's gotta do, and what everyone else has got to do. Keep in mind, however, that post Lv50'ish, SATA gets really shitty. Afterwards, SA and TA are kinda used seperately (because initial 'vokers take way too much damage).
Also, depending on the quality of your PLD friend's equipment, and how good he is at healing himself, it's all a matter of knowing what to do and when to do it.

I fucking owned in kazham... no excuse for your friend losing hate there.

Dude. A PLD couldn't keep hate? I rarely lost hate as a WAR/MNK Tank. o.O; And I fucking owned mandies. Jesus. If he can't keep hate, he isn't doing too dandy a job. And, it isn't his first time in Kazahm. he's a PALADIN >.>; Last I checked you needed to hit 30 just to unlock it. Of course, I wasn't there. So I'm not entirely sure the circumstances at hand.

.

its seperated at 60 because of assason job ability thfs get. it doesn't get shitty it actualy makes TA be able the have a multiplier when seperated from SA. its used so the thf can SA and get hate and TA>Dancing Edge w/out the tank having the sacrafice hate. you can still do TASA>Dancing edge at the start if you have a first voke and the skillchain is at the start of the fight.

As far as your friend not holding hate, well i never seen a pld not hold hate good there. a first timer could have issues, but they should of been resolved way before those 10 fights were over and the sata should of been explained asap.

Cause WAR/MNK with a Plantbane owns Mandys.

I had a plantbane on my war...

I think it went off twice for the entire time I owned it.

TA has a multiplier pre-60, it just misses most of the time. Unless my 50ish thf friend did hax dmg for one shot behind me after a cool animation then did crap damage (lol thfs...) for the rest of his hits.

Meh Blitzner in my experience has a pretty short fuse. I got cussed out by him for about 10 minutes, because instead of killing the elemental he aggroed curing himself (he wasn't fighting) i told him to just 2hr (he was PLD) and zone it. Apparently not helping every idiot who can't pay attention to his or her surroundings makes me a bad whm lol.

But to be honest SATA isn't exactly a hard concept to grasp (and you claim he was having trouble with hate before). I think possible your friend needs some tanking lessons and/or should consider another job.

In my experience (and if you look at my sig there's a fair amount of that on both sides of this topic) PLD has an ugly stretch in the 30's where other DD jobs have started getting enough abilities to deal some serious damage, but no major new hate tools have been unlocked. So having hate wander in the jungle isn't all that horrible of a thing to happen. Quite frankly, with most of my DD jobs I could generally pull hate if I had the inclination (and 34+ in Garlaige my DRG was practically un-tankable XD), and I remember holding hate at that level with my PLD to be a constant challenge when I got partied with people who knew what they were doing. Those 7 levels or so (things changed once I got Flash..) I was actually glad to see a THF in the party.

As for not being able to set up a SATA.... To be honest, there's no damn excuse for that. It should take at most one fight to figure out how a given group wants to handle it, and after that barring the occasional mishap it should go off pretty much without a hitch.

I disagree. I remember my first experiances with SATA confused the hell outa me. Party just assumed I knew what to do, and said "Set up for SATA pally, Sam with 1st voke" and I didn't know wtf was going on. Everyone started getting pissed at me till I finally yelled out
"WHY THE FUCK IS THE SAM VOKING?!?! WTF IS SATA?!?!"

Needless to say, people laughed. The leader appologized in tells, and explained in depth what SATA was, and how we were using it. From then on, things were cool.

That all being said, I still to this day screw up SATA by just reflex voking. It takes alot of getting used to as a pally.

All the better to get into the habit early then eh?

I'm not saying he had a very bad time holding hate on the mandies, there were some issues like lack of MP cause the puller was pulling pretty quick. But the biggest problem was the Goblin Smithys he would pull, the smithy was running all over the place...

I just wish the THF didn't blow up about the situation, the right thing to do would have been to explain everything on all our parts. Which I tried to do but he felt to just leave.

>_>

I was there not to long ago and our pld didnt know how to set up for SATA eitehr. never realized how hard it is to make someone understand how SATA works... I know i never had that kind of problems when but maybe cuz i lvled alot of jobs before pld so i already knew how SATA worked..

Hmmm... If the concept (and for that matter the acronym) were never explained to you, that's one thing, and in that instance the blame falls on the Thf more than anyone else. But if you know what it is, and you still voke... that's bad. :D I have been known to screw up SATA on very rare occasions myself, but generally that's more the fault of the Thf for taking too damn long and me getting tired of the mob trying to kill the mages. ><
