I'm a newish player, so please forgive me.

1.) Is there a place in the Dunes I can set my HP? If not, anywhere nearer to it than Rafaure?

2.) Is there a website/FAQ where I can read up on in-game terms (used by players)? I feel like an idiot having to keep asking what different abbreviations mean.

3.) Should I consider it rude when I repeatedly get invited to parties in the far side of the Dunes, when I'm near the Ronfaure entrance to La Theine? I mean, that's a 20 minute walk. Especially when the party breaks up after one battle. :x

4.) On another note, did anyone else with the PC version change their in-game music?

PS: My signature is obsolete. Tyrion was deleted today, because I got sick and tired of s l o w g a l k a w a l k s p e e d . . .

I may be able to answer a few of your questions (especially since youre in my LS :) )

1. Yes...At the entrance to Konschtat Highlands....and at the Outpost (I would strongly suggest buying a map...you will come through this area more times than you could ever imagine) Setting your HP at these places will cost you some gil though unless your Home country is controlling the region.

2. I dont know of any FAQ....but reading message boards helped me alot in my newb days. Between qcdn.org, www.gamefaqs.com, killingifrit, and allakazham...you can have an endless amout of info to read up on...including tips on money making and other various things.

3. Valkurm Dunes....is a Nightmare sometimes. You will encounter many many people there that you dont like...and many that you do. Alot of the people here wont make it very far in the game...and are fairly rude as far as manners go. On a different note...walking across the dunes is tough at low levels...but its something youre going to have to do. Every new area you go to the mobs will be much stronger than you and aggro you at any chance they get...dont take it as an insult...just ask the pt leader where they are located and decide for yourself if you want to walk that far.

4. I have no clue about music changing or changing files. Once again www.gamefaqs.com has a music hacking guide in their faqs section that might help you out.

Hope i helped you out a little...im not the most experienced player ever so if any other high levels have any tips feel free to share...maybe i could even learn a few things :D

well i dont know about number one but for number two its not exactly rude but just simply tell them [the party] that you are too far away and you think that it is pointless but if you are the shy type (or the type that plays on ps2 and does not have a usb keyboard) then just disband honestly as far as i know its not offending or anything.As for number three try like any instant messenger help site or just try to interpret it the best u can

Well, everyone else has given pretty good answers to your questions. However...

3. People can't see where on the map you are when they do a search for people seeking parties. They could be inviting people from five different points on the map. You just have to pick a central camp, collect there, and go on. It's not rude; it's a matter of course that is unavoidable.

Just wanted to note that you can set your home point in Selbina for free, so that's probably the best option if your home nation isn't in power and you don't wanna shell out the cash. :D

Another thing... twenty minutes?!? Are you taking the most direct routes? I don't think it's ever taken me twenty minutes to cross a zone.

Lol i totally understand. Yeah Selbina is the best route, its free and very centralized unless your country owns Valkurm. Go Sandy!!

As far as the terms go, i havent seen anything that actually discusses the terms themselves but ill give a go at describing the ones i see most often.
Lol - Laugh out loud
Lmao - Laugh my @$$ off
Rofl - Rolling on the floor laughing
Afk - Away from keyboard
Brb - Be righ back
Renkei - Skillchain
Fudama - Thiefs SAnTA ability
Genkai - Raise the level cap - Genkai 1=55, Genkai 2=60, etc.
AF - Artifact armor - Armor specific to each job - later levels
RSE - Race specific armor - about level 27-33 - each sex and races own armor

Ok that is about all I can think of. Often i see some random abbreviation where i must figure it out myself. Like someone will say FFS - i assumed by context it was "for F**ks sake" but those are few and far between. Eventually you will get peoples meaning and be able to figure those weird ones out without asking hopefully. Other than that you got all your questions answered. Good hunting!! :D

Oh, I just thought of a few more abbreviations to add to Fae's pile...

TNL = to next level (as in: "how much experience tnl?")
OMW = on my way
PLS = please
YW = you're welcome
WB = welcome back
IMO = in my opinion
STFU = shut the fuck up (but don't use that one, have the couth to type your insults out in full :wink: )

I'll post more if I can think of them.

I wouldn't worry too much of your questions.....everyone had those at one point. ESPECIALLY the abbreviations one...even I'm still finding a lot of them are new to me. HP would mean home point "Have you set your HP?" that's one common one I get asked about a lot.

As for the insult for inviting...I wouldn't consider it an insult. You should look at it another way too....why would someone want to invite someone all the way across the dunes, wait for them, and then break up the party? Unfotunately, waiting is a big part of the game..lol.. that may be a huge overgeneralization (I base it on the time to form parties, waiting for the guilds to open, waiting for the proper day to fight your avatars or even sometimes craft, gardening wait times, waiting for mobs to respawn, that damn boat ride!!) but I have my reasons as you can see. But back to the invite question, I wouldn't consider it an insult especially after you tell them how long it'll take you to get there and they still want you. It just means they want you and your job. I've been asked to party in Jeuno and the crawlers nest and I'm in one of the three major cities and I dont' consider it out of the ordinary. Now that's a good 30 minute wait depending on how fast I can get there on choco or get a teleport.

If you have any questions about abbreviations, I would honestly suggest using this post topic to ask them. Since you started this thread, it's a good information thread to refer to. That is if you don't want to ask straight out in the game. I don't mind explaining someone what I use. I didn't know what the heck bbiab meant (be back in a bit). People just create weird stuff sometimes too...so I would just ask.

Dunno if this was covered or not, but Galka walk the same speed as every other race. Their 'slowness' is an optical illusion created both by the length of their stride and the positioning (read: height) of the camera.

bah those are not noob questions in my eyes. the true noobs questions are:

whats provoke do?
why did that monster start attacking me for no reason?
who needs whitemages?

asking answers is considered noob.

" who needs whitemages? "
do you? ive been in plently of pts with myself as a healer or a 2nd rdm to help with heals / debuffs amd we did just fine

i think he means, that some people dont like whm because they cant do any damage, een though they do more in keeping the party alive, ive had many a party where 2 rdm cover healing because lack of whm, don't worry about it.

Some other terms that weren't covered:

Camp- a safe spot where you'll be fighting monsters, needed so that the mages can rest between fights

Pull- to bring the monster you want to fight back to camp. It's best to have 1 designated puller so you don't get 2 monsters at once. The best pullers have a ranged attack of some sort, and are one of the higher-level members of the party.

Tank- the person who tries to keep the monster occupied, so that it doesn't go after the mages. Provoke (aka "voke") is a necessity for this job. At lower levels, you may have 2 tanks that switch off Provoke every 15 seconds, since that ability is on a 30-second timer.

DD- Damage dealer, the person whose job is to take down the monster as fast as they can, without taking heat off the tank.

2-Hour- Every job has a special ability on a 2-hour timer, it's generally used when death is threatening. (WHM Benediction is an example of this).

Mob- Another term for a monster, comes from programming term for Moving Object.

Aggro- A monster that is aggresive, or saying that such a monster has decided to attack you.

Link- Certain mobs will team up, or link, when one is attacked, bringing multiple enemies with it.

Train- a large number of linked enemies. In Valkurm, most commonly seen as a huge mass of Goblins.

Zone- one area of the map, or to cross the line from one area to another. Because mobs cannot cross from one map to another, the most common way to deal with a train is to try to zone. In many areas this can be dangerous, and frowned upon, because once the person with aggro is gone, those mobs then turn on whoever else happens to be left behind, even if they had nothing to do with the person who pulled the train.

More questions.

1.) Where the hell are screenshots stored by the game, and in what format?

2.) Ive been on IRC and the internet in general for almost ten years, so I know BBL and such, I'm talking more Game-Centric terms like BCNM (Yes, I know what that means now.) How about Static? Garrison? I don't know that stuff.

3.) If Galka don't walk any slower, why did I always fall behind when autofollowing a Mithra?

1. In POL: Navigator > File Manager > Screenshots..
outside of POL on your computer:C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\PlayOnlineViewer\pub\home01\open\ScreenShots\FinalFantasyXI or something simuliar

2. Static party - 6 people who get together and level at a certain time once a day or once a week or whatever.
Garrison - a new game you play at outposts. Once you get the rare item drop from orcs/yagudo/quadavs (Same ones you get the Keys from) turn it into the outpost guy. Have an alliance ready, because a wave of orcs come out you, your alliance, and the designated NPC's who help you. this happens about 3 times. The cap is level 20 and the more NPC's that survive the better your item drops.

3. Because Mithrs are.. quick like cats! /slap <Armachia> :P

Sorry hope you didnt feel like i was insulting you as that was not my intent. Umm that is now a harder question as certain things seem common knowledge now that might not make sense to you. I see your two were already answered so if you have more please let us know.

The reason you fall behind is because you cannont react to certain things like the other character can. A fraction of an inch on screen could mean passing a tree and smacking into it. Only time you will ever remain right on top of someone is on perfectly level ground and the only places I can think of like that are dunes and cities. Lag also seems to factor into it. All the characters run the same speed, amazingly even taru =P
