Song of Ice and Fire fans . . .

Fire f_cking owns. Ice, I dunno. Turns my nipples into weapons, already cost me too many friends. I try to avoid it.

I read the first one, and I didn't like it. Does it get better?

I'm a bit skeptical, on one hand I hope it's kick ass, on the other hand I know they're gonna fuck it up.

If you didn't like it because characters you enjoyed died, then no, it doesn't get better. Personally, I think the gritty realism is a nice refreshing change though. It's fun to read a book where the good guys don't always win out to the end, and the bad guys may not always be as bad as you thought they were.

I have some hope in the respect that they're talking about one season per book. However since they're looking at (most likely) 7 books in the series, that's a hell of a lot of dedication. It would have to have a Sopranos-style following to actually make it to the end.

sold out already? mmm... i enjoyed the books, but no movie is ever as good as a book.

Series is one of the best, glad thay making into a .. TV series? movies?

usuly movies of books are awful, but with the auther co-director, it should be fine.

If you don't like the first book, chances are you don't like the rest. I should reread the series before this comes out.

I liked the series until the last book. Hope they don't fuck it up.

HBO apparently intends to make this into a Rome-style TV series, with each book getting one season dedicated to it.

And yes, the last book was meh, I thought Brienne was kinda interesting but not anymore after what felt like 200 chapters of her bumblefuck adventures. I take heart, at least, in knowing it was really only half the book that GRRM had intended- it was too long for the publishers, so he cut out about 1/3 to 1/2 of the book and is going to put it into Dance of Dragons. Rather than leave storylines ending too abruptly, he just cut out all the chapters for particular characters; namely the good ones like Jon and Daenerys.
