Ugghhh, Dammit!!

My Sony PSP's being retarded...

It's having an issue regarding it's sound playback. As I was trying to
place my Sony PSP into my pocket (while it was in it's sheath, mind you)
to use it as a personal MP3 player, it fell on the floor. I would assume
not enough to have any SERIOUS damage done, if ANY at all, on account
of that sheath being a bit thick and foamy.

Anyway, to get right to the point, the sound is being retarded. Allow me to
explain.

For one, the PSP Remote Control (that's included with the unit) has now
become non-responsive. Sound from the PSP's natural speakers will not
play back. If you put your ear to it, you can hear the idle sound that all
speakers make that let you know that the speakers ARE in fact turned
on.

When I plug in my headphones to the Sony PSP, I get sound, as loud and
as clear as a bell. So sound through headphones is perfectly fine.

Natural sound through the standalone speakers and the Remote Control
are no longer responding.

...

My guess?

There's some type of shortage in the wiring that was suffered in the slight
drop. I don't know how such a gentle drop could short out a wire. That
just goes to show you how durable Sony's products are. Atleast Nintendo's
shit is built to last (Probably why they shaped the gamecube like a cube,
so it's shock absorbent on all sides).

Any ideas? Anyone have any suggestions?

If not, I'm going to have to talk to a damn Sony representative on their
Customer Service line... And consult that friggin' $30 Warranty that came
with the Unit...

Ugghhh........

...Watch, the Sony Rep's gonna pull a "FFXI GM" move...

"We're investigating into the situation".

Step 1:

Take back to store if it's still under the return limit.

Step 2:

Get $$$ or Store Credit.

Step 3:

Get a DS and you know, actually have games to play instead of expensive movies!

I have a DS, lol. I was going to go there Tuesday anyway (To Gamestop).

Planning to buy Advance Wars: Dual Strike and Radiata
Stories
.

I use my PSP as an "Alternative to an iPod", as well as a "Multiple Emulator
Handheld"... Since, like the XBox, it's been hacked to shit. (I slapped
GameBoy, NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis games on my PSP).

The Warranty's good for a year on the PSP, and it hasn't been one year
yet.

1. Buy a new one
2. Send the old one back by complain its broken
3. go on with life with ur brand new one

Dropped the ps2 that i use for ffxi down a whole flight of stairs at my house. Still works fine just ripped off the connector from one of my controllers.

The best thing you can do is bring it back to the store, or just call the User service of Playstation USA (where ever you live)

I roffled. Seriously though, it's nice that the PSP can play tons of movies or whatever but I have tons of DS games that are so much fun. Lumines is still the only thing for PSP I've had any interest to play.

Sorry to hear yours isn't working though. I've seen a lot of complaints about firmwire v.3.0, but I don't own a PSP so I dunno what they are all about.

People complain about the 2.0 firmware because their emulators don't work anymore.

Which is the only compelling reason to buy a PSP currently.
Well, maybe Metal Gear Acid. PSP CONTRA FTW

PSP CARD BATTLE GAME FTL

Again.

My PSP still actually FUNCTIONS.

It's just the sound is being... picky... Plays through headphones but not through speaker.

In any case, I only own two PSP games...

DarkStalkers: Chaos Tower and Dynasty Warriors... I like
DarkStalkers too much, I think. I have a huge "Felicia" wall scroll in my
room, and "Morrigan" on the other wall.

For DS, I have Mr. Driller: Drill Spirits, Super Mario 64 DS, Feel The Magic,
& WarioWare Inc.: Touched!

This Tuesday, I'mma get Advance Wars: DS 4tw... And maybe I'll bitch
out Sony tomorrow, or use the Warranty on my PSP. I'm not shelling out
$250+ and buying another one... Fuck that shit.

Advance Wars: Dual Strike is awesome, even though I'm stuck on a mission right now :/

You're gonna freak out over what happens to Hawke!

Dark Stalkers: Chaos Tower was pretty rad back when it was Vampire Chronicle on the Dreamcast. Never cared for the DW series though.

I still need to get Advance Wars DS and.. Ouendan. Haha.

so...uhh devi hook me up with the info on getting emulaters and crap on my PSP.... i have some stuff i want, also..um wait...thats all!

and why would you update to 2.0? Zomg, i can acces teh web and put pics on my background ~_~

To Devi: Probably a short like you said, just take it back to wherever you got it and have it replaced.

My first one droped the second day i had it (sister thouht it was in the way of the mouse, and threw it across the room.) and it stopped playing any discs.
Just took it back, replaced no questions (I <3 Future Shop) and the new one i have ive dropped a couple times and it still works. Its possible yours had a defect waiting to happen, or was damaged in shiping, and this was the last straw or somthin.

and to those who would take the DS over the PSP? Bwahahahahahaha, noobs. I'll keep my FF VII:AC in my pocket, thank you.

This is why Nintendo sticks to cartridges, less moving parts.

As with any small device dropping or water will kill it, especially when you have a first generation device like the sony PSP.

Your only recorse is to take it back and lie lie lie lie, do whatever necessary to make them fix it, and make sure you got your shit straight so they can't make an ass of you. Being honest sometimes works too, especially if you expect to require service in the future, checking online first and seeing how sony handles returns sometimes helps also. And never assume the company is being honest with you, because more often than not you'll be proven wrong. Its simply how that game is played.

PSP: $250
FF:AC UMD: $25

Portable DVD Player: $99.99
FF:AC DVD: $20.

WOW SMART SHOPPING

:P

But really, if Advent Children is the only think you're concerned about when you dropped $250 on a PSP...

You need some better money management.

Especially for the cost of the PSP alone you can grab a DS and 7 games now. Does the PSP even have 7 games? And I mean different genres of games, not 7 racing games :P

And those games? You can play them for more than 3 hours. 8)

good for you, you get a movie in your pocket that you can view once before the battery goes out 8)

I work for a national retailer that sells video games and accessories. We had a midnight release for the PSP and sold all 15 units that we had received. I also had to open the next morning (ya I know, shitty schedule). By the time I left at 2pm the next day, 12 of those 15 had been returned. All for various defects of some kind or another. The problem was so bad chain-wide that within 48 hours of the PSP release, our corporate office told us to stop allowing any refunds or exchanges on the PSP and to direct all defective problems to the SCEA customer service number.
