Friend of mine (Radiator) were discussing this heavily a cpl of days ago. It was all about the hp needed for latent to be activated. Many people are under the impression that it is yellow hp when in fact it isn't. (I found this out by chance when I forgot a -hp item and still got latent to work) I copied this from a post in Alla a few months ago and it may help some blm who are confused as to what causes latent and how to achieve it. Hope it's useful.

Below
..

Tip 1: Ok first tip is that you do not need yellow hp to have the latent ring work. How it works is a bit complicated. I will do my best to explain:

-The first thing you should do is put on all the +hp or -hp gear (ONLY +hp/-hp and nothing else) that you use during nuking. Take for example you have 1000hp and you put on penitents rope. The rope is -20hp. So you base number is 980 hp.

-Now take this base number and multiply by .25 This number is your convert number that you need. Example from above would be 980 x .25 = 238 This is your magical convert number. This number is the amount of convert or -hp that you need in order to achieve latent ring effects.

-The next step is the interesting part. If you use convert gear during nuking it counts towards your magical convert number. Take for example, most blm wear zenith mitts during nuking. This is 50convert. So without doing any swapping around of equipment you can automatically subtract 50 from your magical convert number. Again example from above would be 238 - 50 (from zenith mitts) = 188 of convert gear you need.

-Now what you need to do is find 188 convert gear and or -hp to put in your macros to swap equipment and lower you hp (and not the 238 number). This will help make it easier for ELV or GALKA blm to lower their hp knowing that zenith mitts is 50 convert without doing anything.

When you swap in and out of 188 worth of convert gear you will see that the zenith mitts 50convert you have on during nuking actually hides your yellow hp. You can test this by taking off your zmitts and you will see that your hp has turned yellow. This is very useful because now whm wont have an urge to cure you.

Tip 2: Try to put all your swapping-out-of convert gear into your nuking macro. My previous guide had swapping-out-of convert gear into another macro but you can make it easy on yourself and just put it in your nuke macro. Here is an example:

RESET convert gear macro:
/equip serket ring1 (50 convert)
/equip zenith crown (50 convert)
/equip askepios club (30 convert)
/equip ether ring2 (30 convert)
/equip astral shield (30 convert)

Thunder IV macro:
/ma "Thunder IV" <t>
/equip main Jupiter staff (this replaces askepios club and astral sheild)
/equip ring1 Sorc ring (this replaces Serket ring)
/equip head AF+1 (this replaces senith crown)
/equip ring2 Tamas ring (this replaces Ether ring)
/equip body weskit

-So by pressing RESET macro before your Thund IV macro you will have activated your latent sorc ring and your nukes will have +10mab effect. The most interesting thing about putting your swapping-out-of convert gear into your actual nukes (like thund 4, thundaga 3, blizzard 4 etc.,) is that now you can have /whm sub job and not worry about the hp regen. You are lowering your hp at the actual time you nuke something, so before hp regen from /whm has a chance to mess up your latent ring, you have already finished nuking the target. Once you finish nuking just press Reset macro and wait until your ready to nuke again.

Tip 3: This tip is for those who have completely mastered the previous 2 tips above and is comfortable playing with macros. What I do is I actually put my convert gear into my heal macros. What this means is that when Im done healing mp and I get up, all I do is press Thun4 macro and my thunder4 will have latent effects. My latent will be active without me pressing any additional macros to lower my hp down.
I will not go into detail but basically figure out for yourself where is the best place to put your convert gear while you are healing. Example

/heal (resting mp)
/equip pluto staff
/equip body errant
/equip heirch belt
/equip convert gear
/equip convert gear

/unheal (getting up from healing mp)
/equip convert gear
/equip convert gear
/equip convert gear
etc..
etc..

Now once you get up from healing you should have all your convert gear on you. Basically you are ready to nuke at any moment. When you find a target press thun4 macro and you will have latent ring active.

>>>>>>>It is surprising that not alot of other jobs use this method to force latent effect from their designated rings. I have tested other latent ring and this is what I found:

Both SMN and BLM latent rings work exactly the same way. When enough convert gear is put on, the latent effect will automanically work. Try it next time. Only put on your convert gear (make sure you have enough) and your latent ring and test it. You will notice that it will work withought having to take off your convert gear. I did this with a SMN friend and had on only convert gear and the SMN -1 perpetuation latent ring. The ring effect works, as well as my mab sorc ring.

Both BRD and WHM latent rings on the other hand did not work the same way as SMN and BLM. For BRD and WHM you HAVE to have swap in and out of equipment and actually have yellow hp showing in order for the rings to work. WHY did SE have rings that is activated differently? I dont know. Maybe its a glitch?

The Whm latent ring is +10% cure, that is like wearing a noble tunic on a finger. I personally think that it is worth it for whm to use macros and lower their hp for the cure bonus but I guess it is up to the WHM player.

Over-complicating it. Actually what you do is take off all your HP gear so you see what your naked HP is. Then take 75% of that. You need to hit that number or under. So if you have 800 naked hp, then you need 600 hp. If you wear -200 hp regular and are at 600 with full HP even, then it activates. 601 HP even in the red won't.

I basically copied the whole post and pasted. The reason for doing so was to give as much detail as possible. The thing that confuses many is the convert hp > mp gear bit.

Bottom line is..
Yellow mp is not a must.

It's actually not too complicated to do when you know what the latent is lol, you've just went into more detailed as if it was a guide for dummies.

I love being a taru though for when I can finally get my ring. I have less HP, about 700 or possibly less, so I only really need to convert about 150-175 HP down for the latent to work.

I'm not preaching to the converted here.

Just a lazy copy and paste (true)

I actually think it's more suited to non Taru. Taru's that activate this seem to be on 550ish hp which is not much compared to hume 720-30.

Taru int + Taru mp + latent + next to nothing hp = <danger>

Perhaps Elvaan's do actually make the best BLM

hmmm

News to me lol, I always though you needed 75% of your current max hp, not your base hp.

I always shot for yellow hp to not have to do any math on it or anything =P but if it's a fixed number might get easier to do.

something most people dont know about the conjurer's ring is that auto-regen wont activate if you meet its requirements which is kinda funny because i hear a few smns fuss over that XD

I would venture to say that the auto-regen from /whm sub wouldnt work for blm ring as well? Going about the above statement they function exactly the same.

good work as usual Zeo=P

Yeah, I'm still working on getting my ring, but I think I got enough convert down HP on me to activate the latent, this is without zenith. My blm taru friend has the ring though, and I think he gets his HP down to about 590 something to activate the latent.

I'll have to double check again when we're both playing blm together.

Yeah, easiest thing to do is just got naked first so you're at your base HP count, and subtract whatever HP merits you may have, then add on the HP > MP convert gear and -HP gear down first and get your latent that way, then swap in all your other gear sets plus the ring.

yea the guys in allakazam are such noobs lol. it activates at 75% of your naked HP, which is usually higher than your nuking gear ( if u use the sky hands, mahatma slops, etc). yellow hp always work but the trigger is usually slighltly higher. Its hard to have the -HP gear to trigger it if you dont have sky gears ( they are only usefull for that matter lol, not really for the +mp xD), but in manaburn or solo you will get hit so its not a problem.

Blm/Whm does have auto regen with the ring active, it's a pain in the ass to constantly gear swap to keep latent on as /whm.

Sounds good, but where's the "Don't cure me!" macro? I know Otak is always having to tell people to leave her HP alone; I've jokingly asked if that includes when she's on the edge of death.

Alright when I get 50 on smn I can get my conjurer's ring and test it out

according to LoLalla the ring cancels out auto-regen when its pre-requisites are satisified

i lost interest in the first post after the first paragraph. use the K.I.S.S. method people. 75% of base HP. easy.

Yeah, but base MP doesn't include convert HP>MP gear, too simple leads to people missing important information.

I always have the evil urge to cure her lol.

Strangely enough, now that I don't have to go 'yellow', being healed is not such an issue. That yellow health bar makes whm go a bit uneasy though.

I can honestly testify that this is not the case. I use various gears like serket, a.legs, etc. to force on BRD (and blm), and my latent isn't active even though i'm at <75% of my -naked- HP. If I take serket, a.legs, etc. off, latent's active. It's not just a % of your naked HP.
