Watch the Japanese Kamen Rider series; especially Kamen Rider Black.
Then compare the seriousness in the series versus the Americanized version called, Masked Rider.

lol I actually did research into this show a while back. I love the theme song and I'm pissed i can't find it anywhere.
So anyway the giant robot? The show was sponsored by Bandai (who if you aren't familiar have many shows featuring mecha like Big O and the infamous Gundam series) and the show was pressured to feature one. Infact, the show was originally stayed closer to the spider-man plot.
