Spike's VGA

Even when GTA IV was new I was kinda meh about it. But I was seriously hoping for my Italians to come back :( I miss them so from the GTA III, GTA Vice City, Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, and San Andreas games. The game was fun though, but a little easy I think, coulda used more challenge and the annoying phone calls coulda been nicked >.> I'd say what really pisses me off are all the minor things they took out from the other GTAs. What's wrong with bicycles? Why can't you turn OFF the radio? Why can't you have your own custom music like X-Box versions of GTA III had? Ah well....It was so many little things that added up to make me kinda mediocre about GTA IV when I got it and was playing through it.

GoTY nominees were GTA4, LBP, Fallout 3, MGS4 and GeoW2.

The awards are based on fan vote so... Its clear the best game won? I mean the majority did vote for it.

It's not clear, really. Can you really say the majority of gamers even placed a vote? Considerin' the task of pickin' a winner isn't as "important" as pickin' our next president who's to say Rockstar didn't shell out the chips for the win too. Never know with these sort of things. All I know is that GTA is and will always be garbage compaired to everything else released this year. As much of a clusterfuck as it was, MGS4 was leaps and bounds better. Least it wasn't about a homie tryin' to make it to big tymer status on da skreetz. Fuckin' pathetic.

That makes me laugh. MGS4 was 60-minute cutscenes broken up by 10-15 minutes of gameplay... if you're lucky. I appreciated it as a wrap-up for the series, but it certainly doesn't have the sheer amount of gameplay in GTA4. I think Hideo Kojima is a very talented guy, but it would not surprise me if his next project was a 30-hour movie built with a game engine and no interactivity.

I thought GTA4 had a great story, if a bit grim. Of course, I only watched that one. When it comes to that style of sandbox title, my devotion goes to Saint's Row, which is probably the game you're thinking about when you talk about "homies."

So there is a difference between the two?

Yes, there's a difference. Nico Bellic is from Serbia. I don't think he qualifies as anyone's "homie." He wasn't trying to reach the top of the food chain in this one, either. He's just a working stiff trying to make a living in the criminal underworld. It's a much more mature storyline compared to past entries, which I appreciate.

In terms of gameplay, Saint's Row is a GTA clone, but it's much more light-hearted and completely over the top. The fun factor is higher, since GTA doesn't let you do stuff like drive a sewage truck and splatter shit on pedestrians or go streaking in the shopping mall.

I'm surprised so many people whizzed through MGS4 so fast. Without skipping cutscenes, my first play through was over 20 hours. Yeah, a lot of that was cutscenes but it's all skippable, and what's left amounts to at least as much time as my first playthrough of... most games. And it comes with a online game that's worth playing a few hours of, and a purchasing system that makes replaying it pretty rewarding - and a freedom of play that makes replaying it not tedious, and the cutscenes are actually very good.

So to say there's a few hours of gameplay in it is a stretch. Maybe in a speed-run you can beat it that fast.

My comment was a joke. I know they are technically different, but all-in-all they are one in the same.

It's not a stretch. Pretty much everyone's first play through was around 20 hours, then their second play through was around 5-6, because they didn't have to watch the cut scenes. There was only a few hours of game play, but a shitload of hours of cut scenes.

I don't see why people like Mirror's Edge so much. The demo was the best thing about that game. Played it at my friends house, it was fun, but GOTY, I just don't see it at all. Take out Mirror's Edge, put in Left 4 Dead, take out Lost Odyssey, put in Persona 4 for a good RPG nominee.

Yeah you know that guy fails when L4D wasn't even in his Honorable mentions.

ME was just utter awesomeness, I STILL play it and ive already completed it like 20 times. I cannot say that for any other game, excluding CoD, l4D, GeOW2 since i mainly play those alot for the multiplayer.
The fun factor of that game expands well beyond the demo, i absolutely love it.

I agree l4D shoulda been on that list, but i wouldnt take out LO for P4

Aside from graphics, Persona 4 is a far better RPG than Lost Odessy, easily one of the best of the year.

Not only do people still watch this sad excuse for an awards show, but they actually take it seriously? Hahahahahahaha.

Don't worry about GTA winning Game of the Year too much. Since there's no new Dead or Alive game their choices were kind of limited.

I haven't played either, so I'm a bit curious cause I remember saying how LO had such amazing story and so many tear jerking moments with whatever those memory things or whatnot :P but I don't know about eithers gameplay comparison nor do I know Persona 4's story or LO's story in depth. So yar, I just wanna know what you mean exactly (same with Pupusa and others that would agree P4 > LO or I wonder what those who think LO > P4 might think and why their reasons are that)

Games that only last about 3 hours shouldn't be even on a nomination plate for GoTY. Sure it may be fun to run through the same levels over and over but really, GoTY candidate?

Better mechanics, better plot, better characters, better voice acting. There's significantly more to do in Persona 4, and it's all actually useful to do.

Pretty much the only thing that Lost Odyssey has over Persona 4 is the graphics.

See this is completley opinion. I do not like Persona 4. Thats my opinion.
