My milkshake brings all the girls to the yard...

Hrm.. I work Monday.. god my job suck. But atleast i wont have to worry about being bored durring maintnence. Should all be done by the time I get home from work ^^;

guess I'll have to just go and BBQ since SE put so much consideration on the day they chose to do maintenance.

Maybe they're sending us a hint??...

{subliminal message} GO OUTSIDE!

Mo...

Go here:

https://secure.playonline.com/supportus/index.html

And submit an inquiry to ask them why they planned it on a national holiday. If they get enough inquiries, they'll learn not to do this anymore (of course we'll still all be screwed come this Monday).

While I was at it, I also asked them why everytime they needed an 8-hour maintenance window, it is consistently performed during daytime hours for US/Canada -- which is the middle of the night in Japan (when almost nobody would ever be playing over there). It seems to me that they should consider the fact their maintenance windows are consistently inconeniencing the *same* set of customers everytime they do it.

Just wait until Europe has to deal with this. These 10am pacific (1 pm Eastern) maintenance windows are 7:00pm for most of Europe (6:00pm in the UK). They'd be consistently hitting prime-time playing hours over there.

I don't understand why they need maintenance windows for hardware at all. With proper redundant hardware, they'd always be able to host the application on one set of boxes while the other set is undergoing maintenance. To the customers (us) it would just always be up and running. Even software mainenance can usually be done in a rolling-upgrade such that there is, at worst, just a very brief restart required -- but not hours of downtime.

maybe they planned it so the NA employees could get time and a half or double time?

Who knows...

One thing is for sure it really sucks to have it on Labor Day.

I don't know, but if it was me, I wouldn't want to wake up at midnight and go to work for 8 hours. ^^;

But yeah, they really do need to take us crazy NA's into consideration sometimes.

It's pretty standard when you're doing maintenance/upgrades/whatever that requires downtime on boxes that people actually use, to do it in the middle night.

It's actually nice to not have to deal with a bunch of people getting in your way.

(This just in response to Sindarkus...I do think it's boneheaded of them to do this on Mon, bah  )

I'm in a bad mood tonight, the world is full of asshats. Someone post something really stupid so I can call him/her names.

It appears as if with each maintenance lately, they've been getting longer and longer. I remember back when it used to be only around 1-4 hours. Lately it's been 6-8 hours. I know that they're probably getting ready for CoP, but people are paying money for playing this game, and instead that have to have maintenance after maintenance.

Just looked at PlayOnline.com, and the maintenance has been rescheduled to the same time, but on Tuesday instead of Monday. Guess the emails and stuff worked.

In honor of the downtime, I created this photoshop:

fake-POL-notice.jpg

We have rescheduled the maintenance to the following time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

[Affected Period]
>From Sept. 7, 2004 10:00 to 18:00 (PDT)
*The projected update completion time may be subject to change.

[Affected Services]
FINAL FANTASY XI

Didn't even have to kick anyone's ass. :D

At the risk of sounding negative...

WHO THE FUCK CARES?!

Good god! I have no job, very little friends, and nothing much to do in this little house of mine but I don't WHINE AND BITCH everything there's maintenance!

There is LIFE OUTSIDE THIS GAME!

God! One day! For 8 hours! It's not going to KILL YOU! Play another game, clean your house, do something productive for once!

/rant mode off.

For the record, I have nothing against anyone here personally, just everytime someone starts bitching about maintenance, my hackles raise.

I'm not complaining about the fact that there is maintainance, maintainance is a part of any online service and is unavoidable. I'm upset that they originally picked a day that is a federal holiday in the U.S. when there are so many other convenient days they could have picked.

I have to work Monday. And Tuesday. So I don't really care. Although it sucks that I can't play before work on Tuesday, but I do have Half-Life and its mods to keep me company. >:)

Good god! Get a job or go to school or both! Then you will see why we are pissed off when there is actually another day off where I could relax and play this game and it's taken away! I could care less about maintenance any day of the week if I have stuff to do...

So to answer your question: I FUCKING CARE. I can't play the game 24/7 like some people.

But I'm not mad anymore cause they moved the maintenance ^^
