I personally prefer the Squaresoft games alot more. Not sure if KH was a SS or SE game but it was right after the change. FFX was the last SS game and I thought they went out nicely. Anyone else think since the new regime of SE the qualitys gotten a little worse. Nobuo Uematsu made the best music!lol

Well, no. The guy that worked on KH also did KH2 and has been a character designer for Square for quite some time. The guy that did FFXII was there before the merger, making two of the most underrated games (in my opinion) on the Ps1: Final Fantasy Tactics and Vangrant Story.

Nobuo has some great music, but he's not the end-all-be-all composer. Square has a lot of talent behind them. The only problem is that they're still engrained with the old-school-rpg formula in terms of presentation and graphics. It's time to step it up. FFXII showed us what a clean slate on the gameplay could do to the game, now let's see them amp it up. Hopefully, Square using the Havoc Engine will really make their games shine.

Hironobu Sakaguchi has been exec producer for a while maybe hes losing the touch to me or something but since they changed things just do seem a bit different to me which at the moment since I haven't played the later of the SS games in a bit I can't recall what it is that's missing out of these newer SE games.

/edit FF Tactics a great game with some great replay. Was different then the modern day games at the time but from everyone who has played it I've also heard nothing but good remarks. Maybe even though I'm only 16 i prefer old school games lol

Sakaguchi doesn't work for Square-Enix anymore, man. He started Mistwalker a while back. Either shortly before FFX-2, or shortly after. I can't remember.

And what about Enix? Early Dragon Quest > Early Final Fantasy.

Vagrant Story was awesome, although I was disappointed at first because it didn't involve pestering people for loose change and falling asleep under a bridge while reeking of cheap booze.

lol I'm glad it didn't. Otherwise, I'd think they're stalking me over how I live my life.

I'm glad someone finally brought up Vagrant Story, that game was one of the first rpg's I ever played and is partially responsible for getting me hooked on that genre, I freakin loved that game.
In regards to the OP, SS > SE
KH was still SS, KH2 was SE
Not saying that SE is bad, I even liked KH2 better than 1, but I liked the older SquareSoft rpg's better, idk exactly why, they just had a more adventerous feel to em I guess. They were games you could really get in to and when it was over you actually felt sad cause there was no game left to play and it felt like you were losing something, with the newer ones it just doesn't feel that way.

Yeah thats what i was talking about earlier it just doesn't feel like the older games. Its not something that you remember off the top of your head when talking about an old game where you mention some random boss from 7 or something. These new games don't give you that feeling.

Like mario RPG. True classic. The game that got me into the RPG world. My first RPG I've played that I understood what I was doing. My true first RPG was final fantasy IV known as II back in the day, but I was a little too young to comprehend what was going on. But I agree, SE is still comes out with good games, but my favorites and best memoriable games come from SS.

People have a tendency to view the past with rose colored glasses, or something like that - can't recall the exact phrase. At any rate, the "good ol' days" are never the current days. If you consider that the same sort of "this game isn't as good as its predecessor" sort of talk has been going on since time began, it's a good incentive to go give Pong a try. Of course even Pong must pale in comparison to that experimental vector-line game that used a computer the size of a desk to operate. In any case, for the most part, I think games are getting better and better as time goes on.
