My parents put a timer on my computer and well since square-enix says ffxi has main control of the computer (you know how it wont let you do anything else while playing it :( It wouldn't let the timer take effect and shut my computer down lol. Only time that rule has been useful for me or possibly anyone heh.

Wow! Having the PS2 version, I had NO IDEA that the PC version did anything to prevent you from using the PC for anything else why FFXI is playing.

This goes a long way to explaining why people were talking about "I have two computers so if anyone wants me to check Allakhazam while we're playing...". I'm thinking to myself: why couldn't ANYONE just check Allakhazam while playing? What's the big deal?

Now I know.

I guess that's pretty annoying. I have my computer set with browser tabs on all sorts of FFXI stuff like the Vana'diel clocks (for airship schedules, moon cycles, etc.), item lookups, quest lookups, maps, etc.

I know people who wondered if they should buy PC version vs. PS2 version. I figured PC version probably has better graphics than PS2 (assuming PC has a decent grahics card). Now that I know this, I'd probably get the PS2 version if I had it to do over... if for no other reason than I could use PC for other stuff while playing FFXI on PS2.

Yes, supposedly it's to keep people from starting up botting programs while playing FF, since in theory you would have to minimize FF to start up your program. But the people who want to bot still find ways, so basically it's just a way to monopolize the comps of legitimate players. We can either devote our full attention and time to the game, or not play at all

You can start up the bots before you start FFXI.
