Star Ocean 4 Imminent?

Second story was great. I still remember like 2 years ago finding Second Story new in an EBgames for $20. They said they found it in the store lol

yeah second story was awesome, number 3 was ok was still fun sometimes.

I only played bits and pieces of second story so I don't know too much about it. I remember playing an insane boss in it XD but 3 was pretty cool. Started off really slow though so it made it hard for me to get into. Well I guess technically the VERY beginning wasn't too slow but right after you crash it's slow.. :P But the later parts got REALLY fun I think. I <3 Executioners. I hope Star Ocean 4 is good :D

People always hate on SO 3 and never give decent reasons why, Ive played the whole series and I liked 3 about the same as 2. How was it a let down compared to 2? You cant honestly expect every game in a series to be completely revolutionary and the greatest game for the system, lol

Isn't that the point of sequels for the most part? To improve on the previous ones(well and to rake in more money)? I still enjoyed 3, but not as much as 2, that's just the way it is for me. The games plot took forever to get to the interesting parts(Think Dragon Quest VII but worse), characters were shallow, crap dialogue, and recycled dungeon textures, among other things. Only things it did better were graphics(obviously, although I prefer 2D sprites), and the Battle Trophies were a nice addition.

Everyone has their opinions, and that's mine, I'm not speaking it as factual, cause it's not.

Now if you'll excuse me I think I'm gonna go play Radiata Stories, your name makes me want to start a new game so I can play through it and recruit Lenneth Valkyrie again >>

Not really. If the formula isn't broke don't change it. Nintendo's been doing it for over a decade now.

Uh no that was sarcasm(which is hard to get across via text, and besides, you can't fix perfection(more sarcasm)), so you're saying they should just cancel SO4(assuming it is SO4) and remake SO2?
Or that Metroid Prime isn't drastically different from Super Metroid?

I do see your point though, which is really why I'm not a big fan of Nintendo's, I wish they'd alter the formula more often, change it up, only title of Nintendo(first party) I enjoy is Zelda really, but because I grew up with it(along with FF/DQ/etc), and I still have fun playing them.

I was stoked for DQIX back when they unveiled it, because the battle system was an action based battle system(I was kinda shocked at first they'd change it, cause DQ is as traditional as all get out), but now I'll admit I've lost some interest, because recently new scans of the game have been released by SE, and it looks like it's back to a turn based battle system, which disappoints me to say the least. I guess they got a bad reception from pretty much all of Japan(they love them some DQ) about the action based battle system, so they reverted back. Not to say I won't enjoy it, just not as much as I could have.

Back on topic(sorta), I'd be interested to see a SO MMO, if they did it right it could be rather fun, too bad that probably won't be this announcement coming up.

So...I have how long to get caught up with the other 3 games?

I don't know, supposedly it'll be unveiled at the SE Party next month, so I doubt we'll see it in NA for a long time. You'll need to import the first though, or download a rom of it(translated one if you wish to understand what they're saying) cause it was never released outside of Japan.

There's also Star Ocean: Blue Sphere, which is a direct sequel to Second Story that was for Game Boy Color that takes place 2 years after the events in it(2nd Story), featuring those characters. Unfortunately it wasn't released outside of Japan either.

In that case I totally agree. Sarcasm is a bitch over the Internet. It's a good bit as to why I really support the PS3 despite it's "outrageous" price tag. It's great to see innovation in games, but sometimes a sequel really only needs prettier graphics and just something a bit enhanced, whether it be improved physics models, tweaks in the battle system, or whatever. Sometimes too much change can be bad (case in point: Windwaker). If they would just stop using the U3 as a crutch in Star Ocean games that might be just enough of a change for some people.

And yeah, a Star Ocean MMO would kick so much ass.

Are the Star Oceans connected in story, or do they just take place in the same world?

Or are they like Final Fantasies and don't have any connections?

They're connected, but not to a degree where you need to play the previous ones to understand the sequels(although if you do you'd probably have a better/deeper understanding of the follow-ups).

They all either take place in the same galaxy(or universe, obviously), not exactly sure on this, but Roak from SO1 and Expel from SO2 are both in the Theta Sector, and both near Earth, just each game features different time frames and different planets(although some planets from previous ones are mentioned in sequels(or even visited, see below)).
Also the planet Styx is visited by characters from SO1 and SO3, so technically all 3 would be in the same galaxy?

Don't forget Claude is the son of Ronixis from SO1. (I think that was his name)

Oh yea, Ronixis being Claude's father, been a while since I've played any SO titles >> I should catchup again.

Right, Ronixis.

Tornix was in Tales of Phantasia. lol

Speaking of "Tales of" titles, I really hope Tales of the Tempest releases outside Japan >> Tales of the Abyss was a fun one, I want more.
