Ebonics and slang are two, totally, different things
 
Ebonics: Any of the nonstandard varieties of English spoken by African Americans.

Example would be instead of saying "I am going to go to the store." someone who spoke ebonics might say "I be going to the store."

Ebonics tends to be a non-intentional mistake in an attempt to speak/write correct English. Or for ease of understanding it simply is someone speaking incorrect English because they truley don't know any better.

Slang: kind of language occurring chiefly in casual and playful speech, made up typically of short-lived coinages and figures of speech that are deliberately used in place of standard terms for added raciness, humor, irreverence, or other effect.

This would include things such as typing 2 instead of to or too. Or wut, u, m8, haxor, powned, etc.


My point is that ebonics tends to be more of an uncontrolled mistake in communication due to lack of educational opportunity while slang i.e. purposeful mis-spellings and sayings (such as the hizzle shizzle fad or l33t speak >< ) are more of a pop culture conformance. To me, that makes a big difference. One is simply innocent/ignorant while the other is lazy.

i guess i'm used to black guys speaking slang or ebonics with white guys trying to be like black guys and speaking slang.

Detox, Parnthelegend

I'd like to know if anyones had run-ins with Detox and/or Parnthelegend and if so, how were they?

I was in a party tonight, yet again another kick ass party I might add. We were in the 'beetle room' in Crawler's Nest and we chained beetles, constantly getting 3-6 chains. Party consisted of Me-Drk/War, Spellbind-Sum/Whm, Lyx-Thf/?, Scholt(verylongname)-Monk/War, a Sam/War(cant remember his name, started with B, he was the leader), and a Pld/War whose name also escapes me.

Awesome party, it only got messy when we went for a soldier pull and the scorpion spawned infront of Lyx as she pulled. Our Pld and Mnk went down but we still killed the soldier crawler and the scorpion. Got thier exp back quickly after a short wait for a rdm that came to raise.

Anyway, the point of this is we were there constantly killing/pulling. There was another party across the room too. Simply put we were better than them. There were times when I almost felt bad for them because they just couldnt get any pulls, we had them all. They 'could' have beat us to several, but we acted quicker and got them. As we're fighting I notice Parnthelegend /shout ing for us to share. We ignored him, as they could have gotten plenty of pulls, they were just too busy /shouting and bickering I guess. The leader of my party shortly says to us that he is being sent /tells from them and that they want us to stop. Well, tough shit is what we decided and we continued our chains. Parn or someone from his group apparently sent a tell to our leader saying if we didn't stop they would report us. We all got a nice laugh out of that one.

Parnthelegend and Detox continue to /shout that we're leech whores ect. We for the most part ingnore them. Occasionally we /say Why aren't you guys pulling? I did a few /emotes basically stating I couldn't help that I was in a badass party. Durring this time im sure the leader of our group was still being harassed, but he seemed to easily dismiss it.

When the scorpion/soldier incident happened Parnthelegend just kept spamming the /laugh emote. We had to /shout asking for raise help. Parn again decided he wanted to be a further ass by continually /shouting "No dont raise those exp leeching whores". He's a douche bag. Yet durring this time about 6 beetles had spawned.. Parn's group never pulled a single one in all the opritunity they had. Apparently they had lost their healer. Oh well, once again, not our fault.

However once we finally got back on track we got the exp back for our fallen friends and then we see this message.

(shout)Parnthelegend: Help! I'm being chased by the Doom Scorpion <pos>!
Parnthelegend has called for help.

So we talk it over for a second, and a brief second it was. We ran over and helped them, the Scorpion stood no chance. When it was all said and done Spellbind countered with a lil /shout of her own: "...You are very welcome.." By this time we were almost done anyway, so our leader quite politely told them we were heading out and they could have all the beetles they wanted.

Hopefully when COP expansion comes out there will be more leveling zones with good exp other then Crawler's Nest. Same with other places, parties try to squeeze in to a same area where there is another and it makes it hard to level at times. Parn helped me out with my Mog Quest by answering to my shout that I was looking for the goalpoint. Me and the other guy thought we were going to be in Ifrit's Caldron but we were wrong. We ended up in Crawler's Nest. So from that experience Parn seemed like a cool guy. I would not get pissed over this cause we will have new areas to level soon and maybe the end of the "Okay lets all squeeze into a hole and bitch at each other for stealing kills and for the other party being here."

New dumbass that I encountered yesterday.

Jophen, a lvl 46 Rdm/Nin. Enough said.

I had originally invited him because the whm I got in the party asked me to do so (that and the other redmage I was going to get, Everlasting ((good rdm)), was already busy helping someone and couldnt come). So I invite him thinking atfirst he was a rdm/whm, when I saw his sub I thought "Hmm.. bleh, but if he can do his job then ill let it slide."

Well we get to our camp pull a few and start pulling mobs, beetles and IT flies and such. Out of know where he just start attacking the mob. Which didnt really bother me too much. I've got nothing against rdm melee as long as they keep refresh up on everyone who needs it. This guy was only refreshing himself and the whm. Not the pld, or me the Drk.

After the first fight I ask for refresh: "Refresh please"

His first responce was. "Okay.. how many people do you expect me to refresh??"

I tell him he needs to refresh himself, the whm, the pld, and then me the drk to make the fights go a lot smoother.

Yet again his response is "OMG I cant refresh 4 people?!"
At this point I'm a little aggitated, sure i realize he's got a ninja sub, so I ask him he didnt mind running back to Jueno to change his sub to whm and that I'd be just fine waiting. But no.. he responds that "my whm sub would only give me +35 more mp" and that it was stupid. He was a hume btw, and they arent terrible rdm's at all WHEN THEY KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING. Geesh, this guy had the same lvl 45 body gear on that i had on, i didnt bother checking him but he blatently thought he was suppose to be melee guy.

He continued to say that rdm/nin was a good combo, I simply told him "yeah.. its a good combo.. at lvl 70+, but at your level its useless"

I even told him he should seek out some guy named Kiets and have a nice chat with him. :D

Everyone else in my party was complaining to me how stupid he was, but i was giving him chances... trying to help him to be a better rdm, but he just wouldnt listen at all.
He said "lots of people tell me its a good combo" to which i simply replied, "well, those "lots of people" are dumb.. yes its not a bad combo at 70+, but your not there yet, and at your level its useless"

He then goes "Okay.. Thats it" and quits the party.
Proceeding to /shout bad things about me and my party, I /shouted back once to defend myself against his claims but then i stopped caring and ask the rest of my party members who where /shouting back at him to stop. They did, and I blacklisted the idiot. I think the whole party might have as well.

I quickly got a new replacement for him who worked out much better, then once our whm had to go I even got a second rdm. One rdm/whm and rdm/blm it turned out to be one of the best days ive had in a party that i started up. So much so that I stayed in the same party for quite a looong time, only rotated out a few people, and everyone i managed to invite into the party was very good at doing thier jobs. I gained over 10k exp yesterday, moving from 300 exp into 47 to 3k into 48.

Bottom line this Jophen guy sat for atleast 4 hours without a party invite before he logged out, why do i know.. because he stayed right infront of my party the whole damned time. What a loser and a pathetic player.

Update on Jophen.

He still insists on being a Rdm/Nin. Really I don't mind the combo, but before, he completely disregarded his Rdm abilities. Wouldnt refresh pld or drk at all and I don't think he used convert once the last time I partied with him.

I partied with him last night and he seems to 'get it' a little bit more now. He was refreshing the pld and other mages and using convert when he needed. So i've decided to take him off my blist.

I'd have to say he's definately improved himself, and his attitude seemed slightly different. My guess is that he realized he was wrong before and now knows he isnt going to get very far neglecting his rdm tasks.

Good for him. Good to see people turn around, if even its just a slight improvement.
 
Yeah, I know, I'm bumping an old thread, but...

Right now, the only person on my /blist is Houdyny. RDM that I nearly had the mispleasure of partying with in Boyahda.

Here's the story: I used to have a partial static; me (DRK), Spellbind (SMN), Buford (SAM), and Rakhir (PLD) (Yes, Ecks, those were the people you partied with when you met Parn; I had only recently joinied their static). Usually we'd get on, grab two others, and head out to level.

So, we start to gather in Jeuno. The leader (Buford, I think it was, but he and Rakhir tended to trade off leadership) found a THF and a RDM. I can't remember the THFs name, but the RDM was Houdyny. Houdyny was near Boyahda at the time and was all ready for an exp party, so we decided that we'd meet him there.

Next, we're all chocobo'ing to Boyahda for some crab-killing fun. We get to Zi'Tah and try to invite Houdyny. He doesn't accept at first, but we keep going to the tree. After we all get to the tree and get off chocobos, Buford gets a /tell from him: he apparently has "LS business" and can't party. Bummer. So, we look for another person and find a WHM to replace him. Since we no longer have Dispel, crabs aren't as viable as they were, so we decide to kill gobbies in Gustav. The WHM teles to Mea and starts heading towards us as we start heading towards her. We meet up and she teles us to Dem, where we hop on chocobos and head over to Gustav. We get there, dismount, enter, and head towards the normal leveling area.

And guess who we see there. Yep, it's Houdyny, in a different exp party. And no one has the same LS as him. So, he quickly gets slapped on my /blist.

So, in short, Houdyny ditched our exp party for a different one, without even being honest about it.

Anyway, there's only one other person that had a slot on my /blist (I recently removed her, although I think she quit): Melfinaxxi. We were leveling in the 'dunes, I was playing SMN I think, she was WHM. After an hour or so of fighting crabs, she levels. Puller goes to grab another crab. The BLM DCs. And Mel literally runs off. Luckily thanks to our awesome Taru PLD (can't think of the name...) we all survive. After the fight I ask Mel why she ran off like that. Her response? If I remember right it was "My boyfriend told me to tell you to F off". Or something to that extent, anyway.

I was in a pt with him and he was main tank I think, and I was healing him or someone else and the snipper aggroes me. Nick doesnt voke..and I'm like "voke please >.<" and I die... Earler in the pt, Nick died..
Anyways I go
"WHy didnt you voke?"
"I didn't wanna die"
"Thats what your supposed to do"
"I already died once, i don't wanna die again"
"I've died 4 times today buddy, and every time I died, I was close to leveling. Your supposed to keep the mages alive, even if it means you dying"
"Well, I dont want to die"
"Then go to town and switch jobs then, cause your not fit for a warrior"
"umm..no
"ok" ANd I booted him

Next day I was telling him hes gotta voke, I was trying to help him but he goes
"Leave me alone!"
"I'm trying to help you but you dont want advice"
"Leave me alone! I'm going to report you to the GM. I'm looking for a pt, can I join yours?" I'm like O.O. He actuly said that to me and I was laughing
"No, you just told me your reporting me, why would I?"

I'm sorry but not knowing when to voke is one thing, but not doing it cause you don't wanna die is another >.>
 
I've had WARs like that just recently leveling SAM. We form the pt, get everyone together, and ask who's tank. This guy, can't remeber the name, speaks up, "I'll tank." So we proceed to fight. THF goes out, pulls a mob, brings it back... tank does nothing. THFs hp starts looking ugly, so I voke and third eye, and we manage to kill it. Not once did the WAR voke. So of course, we ask him: "Why didn't you use {Provoke}? Do you know how to do it?"

The reply: "Lol im not gunna provoke, then the monster wil attack me and ill die lol"

being a rdm noob makes for FAST invites. which leave little time to configure a propper placement in the skills of FF11. but if it makes any difference, i dont know you nor do i rememeber your job class. did i help get u into sky? or was that another Jopehn?
