So I decided to get back into ffxi last week. Rather than re-re-reactivating Pasquale, I opted to start completely fresh: new character, new server, etc. This game is not easy to start from scratch.

It's been fun so far. There are so many things I need to do that I don't remember doing at all my first time through. Yesterday I unlocked the ability to use support jobs. I'm hoping to spend some time this weekend getting a chocobo license so I don't have to run around as much. Then I need to get an airship pass, because the Windy auction house is emptier than a auditorium at the end of one of Charlie Sheen's "performances."

I've done all this crap before, but it was all the way back when the game came out, so I don't remember any of it. I feel like my old SMN was so advanced now. My inventory has 30 slots; it's awful.

So yeah. If you are thinking about coming back, this is definitely the way to do it. I'm much more interested in the game now than I was any of the times I tried to resurrect Pasquale.

I think I'm on Asura now. (I know it's an "A" word. Asuna? Aaliyah?) If you're ever on that server, look me up sometime. Character name is Rant.

Don't forget to grab your mog sack from one of the moogles out there in Windurst. Another 30 spaces of inventory that will upgrade along with your main inventory, it's something they added an update or two ago.

Oh, and sometime next month, all the Auction Houses are apparently getting merged. Not like there's all that much lowbie gear ON them anymore, of course, but that much at least should be a hair easier for people starting over.

Edit: Make that "May 10th" instead of "Sometime next month".

Where do I get a mog sack? Does it cost gil?

Merged auction houses is going to be awesome. Thanks for the heads up.

It costs gil, but it's not too grievous. Just under 10k. As to where, Artisan Moogle in Windurst Woods is one place, around G-10. They'll also hand you a warp scroll once per RL day after you get the sack.

Starting over from scratch is something I have always wanted to do, but I could never convince myself to do it. I think about it occasionally and I always come to the same conclusion, that I would miss all of the stuff I did before and quit because it was too difficult to find low level parties?

How did you convince yourself to do it?

Do you know anyone on the server? I think you're on my friends list on Quetz too be honest, lol.

I've tried going back in the past, and jumping right back into the grind sucked. Starting from scratch gives me lots to do, and it's been a lot more fun.

Nope, not yet. I'm hoping to find a linkshell soon, though.

Only thing wrong i can see starting over is doing all the expansions again. Getting people to assist with those is a bitch.

To be honest, you could probably solo most of that stuff at 90, and I'd wager that just about all of it will be soloable by the time they finish raising the level cap.

Yeah you're probably right. You can solo FFXI now!
