I've recently started levelling samurai and I was wondering if anybody could help me with what stats I should be raising like accuracy/str etc. Thanks

I'd say it depends on what race you are. As a Hume I've gone in the way of attack, STR/accuracy. As I've leveled though I've found that with sole sushi and pounding on the STR you get an excellent ratio of hits/damage. If I'm fighting low evasion mobs or with a BRD then I'll switch to Dhalmel pies and a straight STR build. With Winged boots, Emporer pin, and hume custom gloves I have enough DEX to hit to be able to WS two times a fight, and once you get Meditate you should be able to WS with two people within seconds of each other.

Yeah from levels 1-30 though it doesn't really matter what stats you build. If you want to be a tank the just get the best defence gear and tank. You want to be a DD just get the best defence gear and DD. Boiled Crab for tanking, Meat Mithkabobs for for DD. it doesn't really matter until around level 35-40 that you have to start getting good gear.

pretty broad question, depends on many things.

Your sub, /war /thf /rng, what your fighting, if theres a bard or not, what lvl you are, which WS you are using, wether you are getting TP or using WS, if your in EXP, if your fighting an HNM, etc etc.

For TP its generally acc and attack build, with store TP wherever you can get it. But don't go too crazy with the store TP, 16.7 per hit will get you 100 TP in 6 hits, and to get it in 5 you would need 20 tp per, which is very difficult...

Sushi pretty much best thing to use unless you have a bard giving you madrigal and you have decent acc gear, then attack food should be great.

Enpi, jinpu are both two hits, with str mods, so good idea to keep a little acc on for WS as well as str, so both hits land. Kinda gotta adapt to what you are fighting, higher evasion mobs you may need to put more acc on than usual.

Tachi yukikaze, gekko, and kasha are all 75% str and are single hit, so pretty much throw on al the str you can get for those on WS macro.

Could go on and on...but hopefully thats the gist of samurai. Many different situations call for different stats tho.

and jse stuff depending on race and some COP gear etc
i got a list some where of my tarus armour from 30-75 but its mainly jse till sky gear :P and hubby+1 spiked ganulets till jse hands W mask etc

If you're WS'ing 2x a fight without meditate... your fights are lasting way too long.

not 100% true fights lasting 30-1min in on my war hitting for like 60-89 on axe/sword
hitting 200% TP by the time the mob is down to 30% ish i guess and sam can do that faster with med af hat rajas and jse stuff so u get +16 store TP in the end whats +8 tp per hit if i rember

Actually, on my 50 sam I was alternating between 2-3 weaponskills a fight for most fights. I had Store TP +15, and double attack was a definite boost. Plus I would lag my meditate to get the most out of it, so I'd fire meditate off at 80% TP and then use my ws after the first tick. So by the time meditate was finished I would end up with at least 80% TP, not counting any melee hits along the way. I very rarely see any other samrai doing this until higher levels, but it lets you easily skillchain with 2 people during one fight.

This was also without eating sushi(I was stocked up on +acc gear), so with double attack it's possible to do 2+ ws's every fight. When I can get a Soboro Sukehiro, my TP will be through the roof; so I'll let you know how that works when I get one.

As far as stats go, skaw got it right; you want accuracy, attack and strength. All of the great katana weaponskills have a str modifier, so str will get the most out of your weaponskills, which are the hallmark of the samurai. At low levels, you're going to want accuracy because you won't hit very well, so I would stock up on +dex gear if you can get it. Once you can start wearing +accuracy gear, I would trade off the +dex for +str or +accuracy. If there's no +str or +accuracy gear for that slot, +attack will be the next best bet; it will help reach the maximum damage per hit you can get.

For subs, until 30 it doesn't really matter but /drg is good for any melee, then I would say /war all the way. Subbing thief is useless until 60, since you will most likely be the first provoke to open a distortion skillchain and 60 is when you start to replace thiefs. For /rng, I think it's stupid until 55 when you can use sidewinder. I know ranger gets a melee accuracy trait at 10, but every samurai I've seen that subs rng had a bunch of +accuracy gear and ate sushi, so they hit all the time for very little damage. Warrior is the msot desire sub job and provides the best benefits to your party, so I would say stick with that.

also if you r on a certin windower u can get marcos to a .5 delay and basicly med and SC almost at same time in 1 marco whats gets more tp faster

baj, we already determined in another thread that Shaunessy's Samurai is NOT 50+, so doesn't have double attack, and wears mostly lv.34 Bastokan/Republic gear.

Actually, I was able to pull off 2 weaponskills most fights before 50, but I also had the gear to do so, i.e. snipers. I also did the lagging meditate trick to get the most out of my TP.

Just melee as much TP as I could until the first sc member was ready and then pop meditate if needed and ws when I hit 100%. Then I'd let meditate restore as much TP as possible while meleeing the rest of the way to 100% and go when the second party member had tp; then repeat each fight. The only thing that really prevented me from doing it every fight was my accuracy, which is why accuracy is so important at lower levels.

ACC is key. A sams life is the WS, inorder to perform said WS TP is required. The higher your hit rate the faster you get TP. (SAM weapons are generaly around the same speed of 420-450)

Then attack for regular hits and str for WS macros.

To be honest i really prefer sushi than atk food. I tried meat once on weapons and my acc. dropped to 80ish percent and took me much longer to stick acid bolts on weapons. Yes the WS dmg was a bit higher but it also takes longer to get to one hundred percent, and speed is the key in spammage.

I'd take acids + speed over spike dmg for those parties.

Correction....My SAM is at level 51 ATM and I decided to not level it anymore until I get WHM up to 60 and get all of my WHM AF and CoP up to a point that I can get the level 50 GK that is R/EX that occasionally attacks 2-3 times.

It's not Bastokan gear I wear, it's Republic. I also have Winged Boots +1, Jujitsu Gi(which I forgot to mention on the gear list in another thread that most people said my gear sucks on), and for all of you haters, I do have a snipers ring that I wear about 5% of my EXP party time. But all in all I've found as a hume that putting on as much STR as I can makes me the most effective SAM I can be.

Baj......as a Mithra I have no clue why you would put on so much +ACC gear. That is the beauty of being a Mithra SAM, you don't need as much +ACC gear. Eat sushi and pile on STR and then see what you can do. And don't give me any shit that it won't work because I know personally a 75 SAM from Hades that will tell you differently.

Believe me though....I tanked my way to 25 as a SAM. Boiled Crab was my friend in those cases. SAM is the ultimate job though and you need 3 sets of gear at 50. That is another reason that I quit leveling SAM. Unless I've partied with a MNK I would always pull hate, and guess what is great about SAM. I can macro my +DEF gear in and tank with Third Eye and massive DEF until the NIN or WAR can get hate back. Notice I didn't say PLD because if you are a good PLD at 45-60 the only time you "should" lose hate is a Freeze MB that doesn't kill the mob, or to a stupid BLM. Or a shitty ass fucking PLD. But say what you people want to about my gear. I know many a SAM that already told me that at my level thay didn't have the gear that I do and they are now 75. So I know it's not about proving anything. It's about telling it like it is.

Then you must not have must experience with melee on them...

I tried meat with my ninja DD, and the haste I lose from the amount of acc i have to trade off to be able to hit is too large, and the acc still isnt as good as with sushi. sushi > meat for nin

Sam...depending on the mob and what I'm subbing I can use meat...but I don't exp sam so thats really irrelevant for me anyway. Fighting ITs...you'd be stupid not to use sushi.

Every job is wearing +acc gear, but since I'm a mithra the +acc gear that I'm wearing lets me eat meat and still not whiff every attack. Samurai is all about doing weaponskills, your individual melee hits are irrelevant, so accuracy is much more important than str. When you do a weaponskill, then macro in the str, but before you have 100% tp, accuracy is more important.

Its all in the sub Allex.
War due to Double Attack: 1st Acc 2nd Att 3rd
STR

Thf due to the lack of TP and DoT damage: 1st Att 2nd Acc 3rd Str
A sam/thf should have a /equip macro for WSs to put on STR gear.

RNG depending on what your subbing ranger for:
TP: 1st RACC ATT 2nd Acc TP /rngs use /equip on WSs that boost att and STR
DD/SW /RNG: 1st RACC 2nd AGI and ATT I (SW Sam) try to use WSs at 100-150 TP. To do as many SCs as possible.

also if u got shit tanks then your spike h8 goes up and your 1 hit beats there 1 hit u dont want to have your DOT higher then your DTOT
DOT = damage over time
DTOT = damage taken over time
if u can work those right then u can DD to your hearts content (sp) and never take h8 from a nin tank :P
