basically, just wondering which pieces i should consider getting. I know it's str and vit modifiers, so here's the setup i'm using now.... (keep in mind i'm only 73, don't do gods, limbus or dynamis)

weapon: Gawain's axe
grip: mythril grip +1
ammo: bomb core <bibiki seashell for ws>
head: fourth division haube
neck: chivalrous chain
earrings: fowling and storm loop
body: hauberk
hands: fourth division hentzes
rings: sun ring X2
back: psilos mantle <knightly mantle for ws>
waist: warwolf belt
legs: barone cosciales <adaman cuisses for ws>
feet: amir boots <adaman sabatons for ws>

i don't have the gil for dusk gear <although i'm working on it>, and don't have much in the way of endgame stuff.

just looking to maximize steel cyclone damage since it seems to be more consistent than raging rush

You're better off not making any of those swaps for WS, just stay in your TP gear.

I'd also recommend buying 2x acc. rings (woodsman are about 100k/ea) for TP at least.

Raging Rush is a far superior WS at 100% TP, the only reason it would be less consistent is because your acc. is too low, which leads me to believe you're eating meat, swap to sushi and use RR.

You're stacking way too much VIT at the expense of a lot of STR.

As all weapon skills have the fSTR mod, it should be your primary focus to stack STR. Additionally, Steel Cyclone is single-hit weapon skill with a 50% STR mod. It's similar to the 'big three' SAM weapon skills (YGK; STR 75% and single hit) whereby a single point of STR can be compared to around 5~ attack in terms of damage comparison (varying of course on berserk, warcry, food etc).

The 50% VIT mod is always in second place, and should never replace and equal amount of STR. Only stack VIT if you can get it in excess in a slot where you can't stack significant STR/Attack, or where you can get it with STR too. Some examples being Bibiki seashell, Genbu's Kabuto, Rutter Sabatons and Warwolf Belt.

(I've seen some disgusting Steel Cyclone setups with WARs actually using pieces of Koenig/Kaiser gear...)

from what i gather then, str is the main modfier

i use the psilos for tp since i couldn't afford a amemet +1 at the time, suppose i will have to go do some farming

think i'm going to try to get those boots to swap in from amir

Surprised no one mentioned this yet.. D:

giga line hands, get a better GA (byakkos or perdu), neck is ok until sea gorget (breeze/snow iirc), why are you using psilos mantle?.. stick with barone legs until you get af2 legs (or better like ares), depending on your race rse feet might be good (dont use adaman), pole grip

don't worry about acc, just dump everything into str. str and vit are both 50% mods, but your fstr (your str vs monster vit) won't be capped with a great axe, so you can think of fstr as being another 30% str mod for simplicity (that isn't true but a good estimate)

why are you using steel cyclone again?

Provided he reserves Steel Cyclone for Sneak Attack only as it should be, accuracy isn't an issue. Guaranteed hit, etc.

Even if for some reason he planned on using it in merits or something, he still shouldn't be 'worrying' about accuracy, per se. Shouldn't totally disregard accuracy of course, but with it being 2hander and the first hit having an accuracy bonus (moreso with gorget), accuracy should never be a 'worry' with it.

RR is another issue entirely, of course.

I agree, it should be reserved for /thf, i did say in my post RR is better for exp.

Wut?

As in 2handers having higher accuracy than non-2handers, thus generally having less problems with accuracy overall. And all weapon skills have an accuracy bonus to the first hit, if i remember right.

.25acc per dex more, it's not a massive difference, yes it helps but it's not massive, and the OP already said he doesn't have Haidate, one of the best sources of dex available to war, in fact looking back at the OP he only has +10 DEX so telling him to ignore accuracy is doing him far more harm than good.

Obviously he has 0 GA merits, as he isn't 75 (assuming this is his first job) so accuracy is going to be really struggling, even eating sushi, depending on what he's fighting.

As far as the bold is concerned, do you have the slightest piece of evidence? because the only time i've heard something similar is in that shitty sam thread where "someone" claimed Y/G/K to have +80 acc. or more.

I think when Red said "don't worry about accuracy", he wasn't implying to ignore it. Rather, not to worry about stacking much of it at all. That's what I agree with. I'm not advocating he/anyone ignores accuracy completely, even on a single-hit WS, unless used in conjunction with Sneak Attack.

As for the accuracy bonus on the first hit, I've just always thought it to be that way. Honestly can't remember where I heard it, but i'll do some reading around to see if I can verify that. lol@ that YGK assumption though, i'm not buying that.

I just wanted to post that Acc is probably my biggest problem when aggressor is down. So I always worry about Acc.

I rarely use WAR anymore, so take this with a grain of salt.

But I will say the same thing RS said, why you using SC again? and if you say /THF, why you /THF again? VERY VERY rarely should you be using /THF for any real application except farming. I think I used /THF like twice last year. Unless some sky shells still do the /THF thing I dont see why you would even worry.

Just to clarify, on Greater Colibri (a 73-75 EXP mob IMO) his accuracy is going to be around 62%, 75% with Aggressor active, considering Steel Cyclone is a 1 hit WS he's going to be missing between 1/3 and 1/4 WS.

I still think the most sensible thing to do, is stack on acc. with rings, potent belt and Ohat, and eat sushi anywhere that isn't birds. It still wont be much good until you get 8/8 GA merits but it would be better than right now.

Edit: I love /thf in sky, what else would you use? - for gods of course, not farming.

WAR/THF is fantastic for Dark Ixion. Can be useful for Sky if you're lowmanning, otherwise i'd agree with /SAM anyday.

If you're looking to make Steel Cyclone more consistent, get a Martial Bhuj. If you aren't using Steel Cyclone at 300% there's no reason to be using this weaponskill without a Martial Bhuj.

You're wasting your time. Sorry to say :( . Gear for RR and live with it's fluctuations.

Unfortunately, upgrading is going to be time consuming and expensive, but I am sure you already knew that.

Weapon: Byakko's Axe/Perdu Volge.
Grip: Pole Grip
Ranged: Bomb Core/Bomblet
Head: Walhara Turban/Optical Hat
Neck: Fortitude/Peacock Charm/CC
Earrings: Brutal+Assault/Fowling/Minuet
Body: Hauberk
Hands: Dusk/Neptunal
Rings: Sniper/Rajas/STR rings
Back: Amemet+1/Forager's/Cerb/Cuchalain
Waist: Potent/Life Belt/Swift Belt/Warwolf
Legs: Byakko's Haidates
Feet: Amir/Aurum Sabots/Dusk/Unicorn/Neptunal

Now, obviously this isn't what you wanted to see, but it really is the best. There are other options, but they do not produce as well as the above listed items. For now, with your lack of gil, get the thick set(level 67-68), W. Turban, Perdu Volge, Sniper's Ring, Amemet+1 and Life Belt/Potent. I think those will produce the best overall improvements for the least amount of gil.

For TP:
Load on tons of Haste. W.Turban, Dusk gloves, Swift Belt, Byakko's Haidates and Aurum Sabots are the most popular choices and relatively easily obtained by the average player. In the remaining slots, use accuracy or Double Attack where you can get it except back where there really isn't much besides STR/attack capes.

WS:
Load on STR, but do not forgoe too much accuracy or you'll miss. Neptunal is great option because it has large amounts of STR and some DEX as well which will help with additional accuracy and for Raging Rush, it helps increase chance of criticals.

Raging Rush vs. Steel Cyclone.
Steel Cyclone has it's places, but not really in experience parties. Don't get me wrong, it can produce great results especially at 300%, but on average, RR will do more in exp. Reserve SC for /THF since it's a single hit WS and adding SA will guarantee a crit and 100% accuracy (provided it doesn't turn). Raging Rush is a great WS if you have the accuracy. It's a three hit WS that can crit which is why it's important to mix STR, DEX and accuracy to get the best overall damage whereas for SC, load up on STR first and foremost since you'll be pairing it with Sneak Attack.

as far as the pole grip, i much prefer the +2 to str and acc i get from mythril +1
once i get GA merits i'll switch back (that's the plan anyway)
guess i'll just go with RR

byakko's is not an option for me, as i don't have access to gods

Yeh I forgot about Dark Ixion. We have all our melee go /THF for that as well. I usually go BRD for that is why I forgot.

Sky we typically just go whatever. We usually integrate farming with gods with whatever pops we have depending on the time we have. Sky is just one of those easy things you can go whatever too.

No sky access, eh? How about CoP and the like? Sea has some remarkably useful War pieces (looking at you, Torque). I'm going to have to refute something, though...

I'm not sure Tier 3 (or is it 4?) ZNMs are the way to steer this guy, Lavi, considering they take a bit of work to get to. The paths to those boots take a dedicated group that could realistically get him Sky if he so wanted. Also, considering most sky shells have a long line of waiting to get Haidate, calling this stuff easily obtained is a little farfetched. Swift requires clearing of a bit of CoP (which we don't know how far along OP is).

Agreeing with Lavi, though, Walahra Turban is excellent for a headslot, and combined with Dusk hands/feet you're looking at a decent haste build for starters. I'd invest the ISP as soon as you could (and once you have 75).

I'd stick with the mythril grip until you're able to merit Double Attack, then switch to a polegrip.

Echoing what everyone else said about ws mods: Str > Vit unless there is no strength slot available.

Apologies for the jumbled post, I'm a bit tired and hope this helps.
