Ok so I'm trying to figure out a good set-up for when I use Steel Cyclone. I know its mods are 50% STR and VIT, but what should I focus on? Or should I balance the two stats out? Any good food that enhances both? Some pointers please

Yeah STR is usually the main modifier to most weaponskills. However, there are some pieces that overrule others, like for example the Genbu Kabuto. You won't find any STR gear that will come even close to the 15+ VIT, so that piece is a pretty good one for the Steel Cyclone set up, but because STR also raises the attack like Euphacent said, it'll raise your dps just a little more then VIT.

Personally, that Kabuto is the only VIT gear I have in my set up, everything else is STR and it works well. I usually try to gear myself for most jobs, 2 to 1 on STR vs other said modifier.

So say go 75-25 on the STR to VIT ratio? Sounds good then Ill give that a shot, gonna have to get my hands on that kabuto heh heh

yeah the only time you would no longer use Genbu's Kabuto is for the highly sought after Heca cap. the only other piece of vit gear i used on my SC setup was a bibiki seashell everything else was pure str. i never needed to worry about acc on SC because i was always /thf for any event that i was SC'n on but i was also doin all this before the 2handed update and the new wave of /sam

I'm a believer in extreme caps on stat mods. What I mean is that if you have all str and not vit, you're actually hurting your damage cap. I have no numerical basis for this but it's a theory I've heard and when I tested it out it seemed to be true.

Steel Cyclone is only really better than Raging Rush when you have 300% TP, i've only ever used it in sky on god when you'll be /thf as people have said, Acc isn't an issue assuming you are going to SATA onto a pld so Genbu's Kabuto is a good option assuming you don't have n.head, also use Warwolf belt instead of Potent. i used to swap a Kirin's Osode for my Haub for the added stats, but this is personal preference (+5atk Vs +5STR +10VIT).

If your not /thf (city dynamis for example) i'd stick with acc. over Vit Ohat, Haub, Potent etc. but then again, i wouldn't use Steel cyclone regularly @ 100% TP.

My Setup:

Weapon: Martial Bhuj
Sub: Mythril Grip +1/Pole
Ammo: Bomb Core (Never upgraded)
Head: Genbu's Kabuto (would only use Nhead over it)
Neck: WS Gorget
Ear1: Cassie Earring
Ear2: Minuet Earring (2 x 2STR earring would work nicely too)
Body: Osode
Hands: Alky's
Ring1: Rajas
Ring2: Flame
Back: Foragers
Waist: Warwolf
Legs: WAR AF2 (Ares's Legs would be nice)
Feet: NFeet

I'm usually WAR/NIN and I use SC at 100-115%. To me, it seems pretty similar to my Perdu/Raging Rush damage. Except I'm not banking on landing 3 hits. I favor Steel Cyclone with Martial Bhuj.

I use Kabuto for the head, too.. and would use n.head if I had that instead.

Yea, N.head > kabuto in all circumstances I've found. Only use VIT where you can't get STR, which is just about no where.

As for VIT's usefullness, it's very unuseful, I've had VIT songs on me that were less helpful than Minuet.

To everyone who responded:

Thank you! I played with my gear a little last night and i seem to be pulling off some better damage now ^_^. Kudos to you all and thank you again. I dont have some of those "better" pieces but i think i managed to find a good balance thanks to the advice given here.
