Heh. I just watched the clip of Stephen Colbert ripping into the Bush administration at the Correspondent's Dinner. Sounds like he made some people uncomfortable.

If anyone wants, I found a forum post with the links to the clips (it's split in two) and a transcript. He did it as his character from The Colbert Report.

Sounds like they enjoyed my favorite part, where he tells reporters:

"But, listen, let's review the rules. Here's how it works. The president makes decisions, he’s the decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Put them through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know fiction."

Awesome find Hali, I didn't even know he was speaking at the dinner event.

Steven Colbert said:
"Next time look it up in your gut. I did. My gut tells me that's how our nervous system works. Every night on my show, the Colbert Report, I speak straight from the gut, ok? I give people the truth, unfiltered by rational argument. I call it the no fact zone. Fox news, I own the copyright on that term."

Hopefully he didn't dig himself into anything, some people didn't seem to care for his style, but I found it all hilarious. XD

I find it funny how he critized the press for dodging questions, never answering, and avoiding anything unpleasent, and how fox news is the only balanced news source, showing both the president's and vice president's point of view.

I hear the NY times didn't even mention him at all, most news sources said nothing of what he said at all, and fox news said he bombed and failed to be funny and entertain.

I don't know. I watched the speech on Youtube. I found it hilarious.

I enjoyed his reference to Titanic, then realizing Titanic sunk, and the administration was soaring, called it the hindenburg.

I love that this is the "story" this year for the Correspondent's Dinner. Last year, the media was obsessing with the horrible jokes that Laura Bush told ... and were written for her, besides. Bleh.

This, this is genuinely funny. I rarely miss The Colbert Report, if I can help it. He pins down the O'Reilly attitude to a 'T.' To someone who has never sat through an entire episode of The O'Reilly Factor, Colbert's blowhard alter-ego might seem to be an extreme hyperbole, but it's really not very much of an exaggeration at all.

The Daily Show is beginning to lose steam for me, however.
