I have a 75 mnk and a 75 pld that i use almost all the time and as i'm getting closer to finishing off my merits for both jobs i'm torn on which stat to merit.
I know Str is the usual DD merit but for my Mnk str isn't going to be doing too much WS wise but i don't know how much Str effects Pld's hits and WSs.
My main question is, would meriting Vit for both Mnk(for Chakras) and Pld(for Rampart, WSs, and a little def) be better then meriting Str?

plus i'm not really planning on lvling anymore melee jobs any time soon, if any it would be rdm or maybe bst(if i can stop sucking at it)

Not to sound like a negative nancy, but i've never seen/heard of a pld who merited 5 vit. I have str merits myself, but i have other jobs i use it on...

Basically, what i'm getting at, is that if you're any race (Possibly taru's are an exception), you really won't get THAT Much of a kick with another few points on Vit as an endgame pld.

Cheers, GL ^^

I merited 5 STR previously and I don't regret it on PLD one bit.

I'll probably be meriting STR on PLD...the VIT doesn't have much of a return, eh.

The modifiers for most of the PLD WS's are MND and STR, so going with STR is a good way to go. VIT you can get from food and from gear (though for food DEF, HP and ENM are always super awesomeness as well). My PLD 'Mentor' stacks up some STR gear (rings, etc.) for his WS's and hits like a MAC truck (Sword merits on there too, so I won't lend all of that to just the STR).

Go with what you feel is best, but a lil' STR couldnt' hurt anyone.

As much as i agree with the above post, i can't stress this enough; that as a pld meriting STR should be the last thing on your mind XD

Considering as VIT's role in endgame is minimal, I'd go with STR.

hehe that is kind of why i asked. I'm almost all but done with merits and have 2 into str already but didn't want to get too far and find out that X stat would have been a better one to merit.

too bad about Vit though, would be cool if it was a little stronger cause i love breaking 2k HP (or 3k HP in Besiege :))

Merit CHR for stronger provokes

/em (Double Slap)s Jamal!!! :nono:

K...guess you didn't like my first suggestion...

How about meriting MND to make your cures do more.

Basically, these merits are only useful for select jobs. Even that being said, the amount of WS increase a melee would notice from 5 STR is minimal in its own right. Its all cumulative factors, but a VIT build has been shown to do little against HNM. Being galka, he has a strong ViT already, but because he's lacking in MP, can't make a true VIT build because of the need for +MP gear to keep hate. Taking a few less damage per hit means nothing when the mob isn't facing you.

I'd say go STR for your MNK (or if other MNKs say VIT is beneficial, go for that). Its ~2.5 attack+ and allows you to add more acc gear to Asuran while keeping STR consistant to what it is now.

Mnd would do more for chi blasting and also give you a bit more magic def. It also would make your enfeebels str on rdm if you were to lvl that up.

Str however is a more rounded stat for any melee job at any lvl. Even if str isn't a ws mod it adds att which is always handy.

Any PLD worth his salt would merit INT so banish and holy will do more damage, you fool.

Except that that's MND, you fool.

STR gives you attack indirectly, and assuming you're not beating up on wimpy things where you've hit the fSTR cap, will get you extra average damage on all melee hits from fSTR. Throw in mods on many physical WS (and if you take that up, blue magic as well).

There's a reason why it's popular to merit. Mind you, all of those effects are individually relatively small, which is why STR merits are veeerrrrry low on the "bang for the buck" scale. You'd be much better served by capping crit+, H2H, sword, and shield merits first. (Assuming PLD and MNK are your only jobs.) Even most job-specific stuff, hell, even HP or MP, is arguably better bang for the buck than stat merits.
