Honestly, after reading that last post Strid, what you're trying to say made a lot more sense to me. I do hear what you're saying, we just disagree on where the line must be drawn legally for bullying. I don't mean to say that fat kid's feelings didn't get hurt, I guess I'm trying to say that dropping one insult doesn't make people jump off bridges (unless the person jumping has serious emotional issues to begin with). Continually attacking someone into emotional (or physical) distress needs to be prosecutable. I don't mean you don't like someone and the two of you have a back and forth for the rest of your life, I'm talking the new girl at school getting pummeled by mean girls relentlessly until she feels hanging herself is a good idea a la Phoebe Prince or the gay kid who had his privacy violated not once but twice because some assholes thought it was cute to be dickheads. I think everyone can take an insult, whether they handle it well or not. But this is beyond insulting someone's momma. Every action has a consequence, and a human life should have more value. Everybody doesn't have to kumbaya, but there should be a very basic respect for another human being.
