How fucking hard is it to realise that the holy Breastplate is for soloing. Wear a fricking Seer's Tunic at least.

I take my melee (Scythe) gear and my xp gear everywhere I go. I payed 50k for Gobbiebag I+II. All you cheap-ass WHMs should too.

FU buddy, I wore that friggen breastplate until I got my AF body piece...that thing rocks and while you may wear a Seer's Tunic and take 4 hits and die I cant take 10 hits and live!

Worry about your own gear and leave everyone else the hell alone! Gawd, if you are a White Mage then you don't have to party with another one...I would personally rather see a WHM in a Holy Breastplate than a Seer's Tunic....gawd!

When I get to 40 I will be wearing Holy Breastplate for partying, then macro in my seers for healing.

A BLM dies he does a bad job, the WHM dies if anyone else in the party does a bad job too. That extra def means I will be able to take those extra few accidental hits. So fuck you.

Well Bishop Robe is a little more expensive > 60k atm but it's what I used pretty much til AF. Maybe seers is better, at least for resting, but it didn't exist back when I was that level.
For the whole breastplate thing.. well first off I'd say, against an IT mob, 20 defense doesn't matter much at all when you're a WHM. Get a decent tank or use blink. But me getting killed as WHM is fairly rare, usually like a pop goes right for me or something... I can't see 20 def saving me. More like a 5% chance I'll get one more hit on me before death. All in all more mp/mnd/ mnd regen more useful.

On a side note there's always the choice of a panic macro. I've never felt this has been enough of an issue to be worth the effort(I've just been lucky with good tanks maybe), but mages always have the option to gear swap all their defense stuff in the case of incoming hate. Bad tanks haven't really been a problem for me, but if that's the case for you other WHMs I might suggest that.

shut up asshat that piece of armor is overrated and i'll wear whatever the hell I want.

Ummm... Me + Holy Breastplate + Benediction = lived...nuff said.

And that's with NO pld...i was able to survive until the melee could voke it off.

Obviously more Defense will help you in the chance you do draw hate, but I believe the question becomes, which will benefit you and your party for the extent of your party. If defense is ever the largest benefit than there's something wrong with your party in the first place. If you personally like the added security of defense as a mage, then, as I said... go ahead and use a panic gear swap macro.
By level 40, the mob should not be taking occasional bites out of the whitemage. Even a WAR who is provoking every 30 and using food (offensive or defense) should be perfectly capable of holding hate from the WHM.

Yes, it's about benefitting your party, but tbh, before you get AF, your choices are pretty slim, Bishop's Robe, Holy Breastplate or Seer's.

Seer's is very useful for the mph, so definately, that should be worn while resting, but I think the extra def will be more useful to me than the bit more mnd i would get from the bishops robe (when I already have tons) or the small bit of extra mp from the seer's standing up (when I'm a taru).

So, I will wear the breastplate while partying and standing because it fills a deficiency and at my level I find I still have to deal with bad tanks or other pt members who dont know about hate management.

I love the Holy Breastplate. I just bought it, and I like the idea of being able to take a few extra hits if something goes wrong. I almost never draw hate, but sometimes it can't be avoided.

I keep the Seer's tunic on me so I can equip it for healing, but that it. That extra 8 mp while I'm standing around burns off too fast to need to have it equipped all the time.

There are a lot of people who use the Holy Breastplate until they recieve their whm AF or something else they prefer to wear. Seers was not around when I was level 30-52, so the breastplate worked fine. So far in healing on lower levels (for proms and another character who is a 30blm), I have not really seen a significant difference of why it is considered better only than using it for resting.

Higher def for whm is good when you have to pull a benediction if there are no other options left.

The posts above mine have explained some reasons too. Judging by equipment at first sight can be a burden. (I run around in town and so forth in the breastplate still but it is not what I use for partying). It really depends on the party setup and situation of what is appropriate to wear/eat (which is determined by the user, not others). If flaws are present, evaulate the situation before determining it is someone's armor. (i.e. spamming higher cures when it is not needed; therefore more love for the whm ;p)

Well either way it's a very very small difference. +1 MP definetly for when resting. But 8 mp when you're up is only 1 single cure 1. As for the idea that this Holy breastplate is going to give you "a few extra hits" that's an exageration. 20 def isn't going to block away an entire hit if it absorbs 5 damage of 130. Difference between seer's and holy breastplate when standing, barely any. I used Bishop Robe because I felt the MND would help me the most, specially with those white-based debuffs that the MND boost helps with, Slow / Para exctera. Someone needs to do those when there's a BRD instead of RDM.

I always end up doing some enfeebles at my level in the party. However the +MND i get from my Holy Phial (3), Friar's Rope (1), Saintly Rings x 2 (4), Seer's Hands +1 (2) and Feet +1 (2), Yew Wand +1 (4) and Mist Silk Cape (1)

giving a total of +17 is sufficient, I dont get resisted that much on enemies that I fight and I don't feel that the extra +2 from the bishop's robe would change that much

=/

I don't think you know what you're talking about really. You SHOULD have both in a exp party.

Seer's Tunic most of the time, but whenever you take hate for whatever reason (even good RDMes do) you need to have Holy Breastplate. It helps a lot

Coming from the guy that somehow managed to prove that 3 less MND actually gained him 2 more points of HP when curing, I'd stay with the breastplate.

I'm a BLM an dI do what Fire suggested, if I pick up hate. Then I hit my macro and *poof* I have my RSE on. Then once it's gone I hit my other macro and *poof* my XP gear is back, is that really so hard? You all should really learn how to play your class or just quit.

Macros are good, yes. I have MANY!!!!!!!!
Telling us all that we need to learn how to play is sweet of you.
I'm not too surprised to see that a few people actually told you to fuck off.

Speaking as a high level whm, there's nothing wrong with using a holy breastplate until AF. That's what I did, but then Seer's gear wasn't out then. Regardless, I still probably would have used the breastplate. The +1 hmp is negligable and the +8 mp added isn't vital to have.

Since your whm is only 27, maybe you should hold out on handing out whm advice or commenting on what they wear. As long as they don't have +int rings or aren't missing something vital like Protectra 2, they're fine. Maybe there were no seer's in stock when he bought the gear, who knows.

Regardless, claiming whm's are retarded just because they don't wear what you want them to is ignorant and rude as hell. If they can do the job, leave them alone. Remember, it's 1/5 equip and 4/5 skill that makes a good player.

Yes I don't really see it as retarded or even stupod to use the breastplate. However I'm not gonna endorse it either. Maybe it's a preference thing, but my preference gearwise has always been extreme specilization followed with swaps if needed.

Imo, all three are about the same, and the usefulness are small. Still, you guys are really whining to protect the only real "armor" you can wear. It does nothing at all for you but make you look good if you like the armor. Even if its only 8 mp or 2 mind, it still does SOMETHING for you, unlike the breastplate. Yes, you can wear what you want, but don't go on lying to yourself that the money you spent on it was worthing anything but appeasing your sense of style. I remember a pld who chose style over good stats, and I call people like him idiots. Yes, he was a pld and it mattered a bit more there, but it's all the same. That's why people are willing to pay 250k for 8 mp and 1 int. As fire said the extra def will NOT help you much, if you feel shaving off about 5 def as he said, by all means do so.

I'd still rather see a whm wearing a seer's or bishop. And should I give enough to ask why they are wearing bishop, and they have the nerve to tell me "So I don't die." or "So I don't get hit as much" I find it an insult to the tank, who've you have better known to suck already. I won't think anything if they whip it on afer everyone can see the tank sucks. And people who say "Cause it looks cool man" I just roll my eyes at them and laugh. Anyways, it's an opinion and you can wear whatever you want, as useless as it is.
