Studies show 3/4 WHMs are retards.

hehe ^^ I think he did.. cause Serket Ring is 50hp->mp and on me that'd give me 30 more than my electrum rings (I'm saving up for serket^^) and then when I get Vivian Ring soon enough (I hope ^^) then I will have 60 more mp than I would with my Electrum Rings, or 50 more MP than I would with Astrals.

I'd also like to point out, I don't know many DD jobs or BLMs or SMNs that would exchange the tiniest bit of specialization of their jobs for defense. How many monks would say "Yeah I like that whole Och. Kote thing but I don't know... that -5 evasion, what if I take aggro?" Duh, the answer is you don't take aggro. I wore astral rings, as a tarutaru, through the levels 40-58 where I could have worn that tank armor, but I wore the appropriate mage gear. Why? Cause I'm not a fricking coward. I got killed like once, and I got over it. And I'm quite certain in that situation I'd have died either way. Seeing as our Paladin fell asleep. >.>

I wear Seer's because I found an armor combo that makes me a special race known as "French Maidthra" -^^-

But really, at that level I wore Holy Breastplate. Why? Can you say "AOE"?
Really, it's the skill of the person that matters, not what they wear. Sure, wearing blahblahblah might help, and even be recommend, yes, but if they do fine without it, why does it matter? Sure, it matters when it's the tank's armor or DD's weapons, but in this case, it's the damn WHM's armor. If the, what, 9mp(?) from Seer's Tunic matters that badly, then it means the WHM's mp is getting ran way too dry to begin with. Sorry, I'm gonna take the 34ish more defense the Breastplate gave, because, had Seer Tunic existed back when I was that level, I probably would've blown that little mp bonus healing myself after a Cursed Sphere spam ANYWAYS.

O.o Still arguing this are we?

No matter what you say breastplate doesn't help you whm at all, yes you might want to buy it anyways, maybe seer's isn't so hot, and maybe your body armor choice is limited, maybe it doesn't effect the pt's ability to xp or your ability to heal, but for heaven's sake it doesn't make breastplate any better and it still sucks, get over it. Small little statlets are what this game is made of.. that mathan thathlum crap or whatever it's called is 75k about now, it only gives 3 mp and one int, do I switch it out after I burn that 3 mp with something like tathlums to toss around so I look cool? Um no.. Will it really effect my pt or hurt my ability to dispel and refresh? No, it won't. Does it matter? Yeah, because it's just frikin stupid and pointless. If I saw a rdm doing that I'd be like.. um..ook.. freak... And I get amused evertime I see a whm wearing breastplate in pt. Do I care? No not really. Mostly I assume whm buy it for looks, I can understand that I mean I frikin wasted 56kcp to wear a mostly useless body armor just to look cool outside of pt.

And anyways, the extra def won't help you much. If you are wacking it on and telling yourself "Man.. that pld looks like a retard.. but that's ok, I'm basically genbu with this baby" You're kidding yourself man. At most, it -might- help out if the mob attacked you for the same amount of hp you had left, and with the breastplate it now hits you one hp left. You should stop worring about your classes weakness, that's why you form pt's to cover each other's asses (aka weaknesses), focus on improving your strengths, even if it's a bit. I'm not saying not to buy it, I'm just saying it's pointless to use it in pt, you shouldn't even bother with a macro to change out the armor, it's so frikin stupid and it would def. lower my opinion of you. I wouldn't kick you for it but yeah.. lol.

Anyways, as you said no one cares, and because as long as you have your cure spells and know how to use them, I doubt anyone would give if you were wearing full garrision armor. Just another bad thing about whm, just like rdm.

Its called insurance, you don't buy it because you want to you use it, you buy it in case you need to use it. And are the same people that don't wear the breatplate and the ones that argue its stupid, the same people who cast reraise everytime you party or stoneskin every now and again? I mean I don't see anyone saying anything about that but its no different. Are those people idiots too?

I didn't have the luxury to wear either when I was that level. The seer's tunic came out shortly before I had my AF body and the breastplate was a little too expensive for my taste (I'm very stingy with my gil  ) but if I partied with a whm and they did their job to the best of their ability (which often times is more based on skill than stats) then why complain? There is enough things for me to worry about than someone's else's gear, especially a whm's. If this rant was about a pld with no def and vit or a DD with bad weapons, I can see your point, but a whm?

Holy Breastplate is up 20k since I had mine ;.; ..

Yeah but this is why I have to laugh when people defend breastplate. If it breastplate was anything like stoneskin or reraise then not only would it be elite kick ass gear, it wold also be a lot more expensive. Stoneskin and reraise are -actually- useful. Reraise if you die, allows you to raise yourself in case everyone bites it and allows you to raise the others. It's very useful and a lot of times a good pt or event would of broken because of a mistake wipe out. Thank god, bless their souls, whm have and use reraise. Now would I laugh if a whm cast reraise and said "Don't worry guys, I got our back if the goddess hates us today"? Hell no, I'd be like "Ah good.. smart thinking be safe never hurts" Now if we wipe out I'd be "thank god our whm had reraise.." Now let's switch it around with breastplate. "Don't worry guys, I just put my breastplate on. I got our backs if something happens." I'd probably be scared silly, because I would have to assume the whm is a crazy fruitcake if he thinks the breastplate will save our asses." *After death* "Ha, it's all good, I got my breastplate on, you saw that? Let me survive 5 hits longer (being very generous here" Damn I'm rocking" "So, how does that help us and why didn't you cast reraise instead, or at least DURING those extra 5 hits you lived?" "cause uh.. you really think I could cast it while being hit? Hell no. And reraise is too weak.. it never helps.

Yeah.. you'd think there is a reason why people don't even say anything about reraise and stoneskin, they have such good uses that even a monkey can see. Would stoneskin have allowded the whm to cast reraise before dying if he was being attacked? With blink I'd say he'd have a good chance to. With breastplate? Na... Anyways wear what you want,as you said there are not much better choices... yet at least there are -some-however small. Just don't go around saying breastplate is the shiznit because it's not.

I can't think of anyone here who has put out the idea of wearing the breastplate so they can survive long enough to cast Reraise, or even so they won't have to. I'm not saying there aren't asshat WHMs out there who may have done that, but they haven't made those excuses on this thread and I have no reason to believe you're not just pulling that example out of your butt.

As Lavi said, it's just a bit of insurance. If I can survive three hits instead of two (or four hits instead of three, etc), it may be enough for the mob to get it out his system so the tank can establish hate again. I very rarely draw hate, but shit happens if there's a link or a really bad AOE.

I don't care, though. I doubt I'd wear it during the entire party because there really are other stats I could be boosting besides DEF, but the hostility shown toward this particular piece of equipment really cracks me up.

Yeah most whm are making that point, and I agree it's a good point, it would help sometimes. And of course, you never know. But Lavi wrote:

Thats what I was mostly reffering to Halifirien, he's giving the breastplate way too much credit, it's no where near as useful as stoneskin or reraise, and anyone who says so should be ashamed of calling themselves a whm, or should go level whm first and then come back and say that.

Anyways I still think it's one of "those armors". It's like wearing Republic Aketon in pt, switching it out after you burn that 8 mp, same deal as with breastplate. I'd just find it weird, but I wouldn't be that much of a problem, since it doesn't help the pt, but it in no way hurts it either. I'd guess it would be like watching someone picking there noise in public, that person doing it is not hurting anyone, he will probably never see those people walking by again and they won't remember him, not to mention the fools can look away if they don't like it. Will that lower greatly what people think of him for most people? Hell yes. I wouldn't stop being friends with someone who picks their noise in public, it's not that big of a deal but I would def. think a lot less of that person.

I think Lavi's point, which sort of refers back to something you said earlier, is that the Breastplate is insurance in the same way Reraise is insurance. Reraise is about sixty million times more useful (I'm not even close to equating the two in terms of usefulness), but they're both there for the same reason: just in case something goes wrong.

Sanjo Renomitsu said:
...and they have the nerve to tell me "So I don't die." or "So I don't get hit as much" I find it an insult to the tank, who've you have better known to suck already.

Again, it's like Reraise in that respect. I've had two or three different parties complain when I cast Reraise, and one of the tanks actually asked "What, don't you trust us?" I didn't bother to reply to that, because some people are too dense to waste breath on.

For the record, I lean very heavily toward Firestreak's "Panic Macro" suggestion in terms of my own playstyle. That strikes me as the way to go.

One rough thing about having WHM as my highest job is 99% of the time I never get a chance to see how another WHM my level reacts or does the job. I read some of the examples of WHM behavior on these boards and think Jeebus, tell me they don't really play that way.

Yeah I agree about the panic macro as the best way to go if you use it at all. However, what I meant in that quote of mine you posted, it's like.. I cast stoneskin when we have a link so I can have a less chance of taking damage while i resleep or something, but the tank wouldn't be insulted. During a HNM or God run the Whm will likely cast reraise, because death happens, and the tanks don't get offended. But breastplate is a token thing, it won't really help you, but it shows you revere the extra def. It's like saying "Hey love, let's go to the movies." "With you!? One second let me go get my lucky rabbit's foot." Anyways, I'm done here, it doesn't really matter how much breastplate sucks or does not suck, people still going to buy it and as I said as long as whm are whm, no one gives a damn. Hence how crappy as whm make it 60+

Fuck you Sanjo. You only proved my point and then you have to insult me, well fuck you. You use stoneskin because you know you are going to get hit so how is that any different? Its not you dumbass. People wear it like Hali said, so they can take an extra hit when the time comes. I would hope that those same people wear a seer's tunic when resting but really the choice is up to them and how they play. I know sometimes there is a necessity to cast spells like stoneskin and reraise however that same necessity is so they can survive and/or save some experience. To say its any different is rediculous. Like I said I never wore the breast plate but I never needed to because during those levels I was very fortunate to get good parties. However, for many whm's this is not the case and getting hit comes with the jobs so getting a breastplate may be a good idea. And really, does it even matter? After the first pull on any chain I've used up the 8 mp the Seer's tunic game me and until the end of the chain I probably won't have full mp again. So only +1mp regeneration should be an issue and you only get that while resting. So if the whm rests and changes equip thats a smart whm, but as I said, a good whm isn't about equip as it is about skills.

Oh and about the morion tathlum and why is 3 mp and 1int so important? For the same reason you buy a ring with +2int. Every bit adds up. You obviously don't think having one is so important and yet do you live without any +int gear? I doubt it. Next time when I am only trying to enlighten you with another point of view, don't insult me. I got beyond level 60 because I am a good whm but you wouldn't know that since we have never partied.

This thread just gets better.

I thought we decided that it's all just preference, and macroing in your choice of equipment in a given scenario was ok. But it would seem that no matter what you end up doing, you're retarded.

Makes me glad I'm not a WHM. No offense to those that handle their jobs well, no matter what their style of play may be, and know when to stop arguing with each other.

I know THF discussions have come up, but I don't really recall anything but constructive discussion coming out of that. We could at least try to come to some sort of general agreement on this, even though it's in the FB and the title is such that it badmouths 4/5 WHMs.

God knows what kind of response I'm soliciting in this thread in the heat of it by opening my mouth, being THF.
But just consider that it does seem we're spinning our tires here, and just making asses of ourselves.

It's just a piece of armor. If it serves any purpose for you at all, I'd have to say it's better to have than not to have. Plenty of jobs macro in plenty of gear, plenty of times...Why is this any different?

3 out of 4...Not 4 out of 5. Mah bad.

Mishaela said:
But really, at that level I wore Holy Breastplate. Why? Can you say "AOE"?

Good mages don't get hit by AoEs, I do however agree that sometimes you need to be close to avoid agro or your tank is tanding in a bad spot, but you should almost always be able to stand out of AoE range.

so, if the camp is small, or there's no room for you to not get hit by AoE, you're a bad mage?

Sometimes the tank might lose hate for a second and the mob comes rushing for a mage. Then, the whole layout of the camp has changed, and the mages might very well be within AoE range. They could stop casting whatever to try to find out where to move to to get out of AoE range and still be safe, but it'd be better if they kept casting

To repeat the point... defense won't help you from AoE, there is no point arguing about it. It is of course good for WHM not to be hit by AoE if possible, but that is at least as much the tank's responsilibity as the WHMs. You can't expect them to keep moving constantly because the tank likes to dance around the mob like a sissy.

I've half-ass been reading this topic for a while now. Here's my opinion, take it or leave it:

IF they had had Seers +1 when I was leveling my whm, I would NEVER have bought that ugly Holy Breastplate and wasted the money on it. But, because they didn't have Seers Set at that time, I bought it and I wore it. I couldn't WAIT to get that thing off. To me, personally, if made no sense whatsoever, me bein' a whm and having reraise, to have to wear it. Also, I had my melee's to protect me.

And, bottom line, the damn thing is butt ugly!!!! I can see you whm's mebbe wearing it to farm solo, but other than that, Seers +1 just rocks!!!! And, it looks good also. I mean seriously, it's really sharp lookin'.

Again, this is just my opinion. Y'all do what you want (which I'm sure you will even without my permission to do so  )
