Should I put an equipment Swap in it or does it slow it down? If I put it after the casting of the spell, does it equip in time?

My stun *never* gets resisted (by anything I would be fighting anyway).

It's Dark magic if I'm not mistaken, but it has lightning element attached to it. So if I were to put equip in it, Dark Staff or Thunder staff + Dark Torque + Wizards Tonbon.

Any suggestions?

do you really need equip swap just for stun?

im a elvaan DRK, oftenn either eat food or wear equip that lowers my already low INT, and my stun has never been resisted by exp mobs.

If you're in a stun order I'd say go for it and equip before you start casting. If you're doing normal stuns I wouldn't want to risk it. You could do /ma "Stun" <t> and then the /equip's I guess. Try fooling around with it on bunnies in ronfaure to get the timing right :P

Never have equip swaps in before something as important as stun. Either swap your gear in a separate macro, or just cast and hope equip swaps in after. Honestly, I've noticed a tiny difference in macro speed when I have /ja "Chi Blast" <t> /p Chi Blast -> <t> and /p Chi Blast -> <t> /ja "Chi Blast" <t>. Only shows up in uberlaggy fights like Dynamis Lord and Kirin, but it shows up, and it sucks.

there are some mob which ive seen resist stun like diablos

that spell casts faster the Dia. i've never graer swapped for it cause it goes off to fast and its rarely resisted. WS' and attack spells yeah. but stun, i wouldnt bother.

Zaltana is right. stun is almost inta-cast. i've been known to beat a provoke when NM camping. if your gonna swap gear it has to be before the stun.

not even Diabolos (CoP or Prime) has resisted my stuns, granted he has beaten me to the cast with his Nightmare, but thats not the same as resisting.

of course there are some mobs which are un-stunable (Kirin), and i think NIN mobs may also evade by means of shadows, but not too sure on that one.

Stun effect is extremely rarely resisted.
However, as you start to macro in gear you notice an effect
in length of the stun. With Jupiters staff, wizards tonban,
sorcerers gloves and abyssal earing my stun lasts a good few
seconds, as opposed to the momentary affect you get by just
chucking out the spell. If all you want to do is abort a spell there is
no need to bother. But if the goal is to buy a tank those few extra
seconds we all know can mean so much, i'd start swapping.

stun is thunder magic but its under dark magic skill

so you cant stun earth and thunder type mob , if they were HNM

all sea gods *ix'aerns too* and few limbus boss are un-stunable

proto-omega is stunable in both 4 legs and 2 kegs mode

proto-ultima is stunable when he put down his magic shield mode

You can stun for example kirin.
It just isnt to reliable.

true i stuned him with weapon bash XD

but i never saw the stun work on too weak earth or thunder elemental

... not sure on dark elemental tho

You hafto note that elemental staves effect potency as well as resist rates...it'd give a longer Stun with Thunder Staff equipped =P

But yeh, as already said, in 9/10 cases that extra bit of time added in from gearswap macro could result in the spell going off. I'd only see gear as usable at all if you're quick to react as is and trying to stop a -ga III/IV.

When i am casting flash i swap in my light staff (if for some reason i don't have it out already...) after i start casting and it appears to get equipped before i finish (although its damn close). I am not sure however if it will work with multiple piece of equipment.

If i were you i would just try it out. From what Caerloc says the difference will be quite noticeable so just find some too weak mob and try doing it without the gear on then then try it with a gearswap macro put in after the stun macro.

Hope this helps.

I just have a thunder staff equip swap for my stun macro. I've not toyed around with elemental magic or dark magic on anything like kirin, but I guess next time I'll experiment a little with more advanced equip swaps.

I'd have guessed adding in the appropriate +magic equipment would make the effect stronger, and maybe have a little effect on resists (would be more noticeable to mobs like earth elementals and on kirin), but it would still be heavily resisted (and hence hard to test), since they have such a heavy base resistance to the thunder element.

I think someone should deck themselves out in +thunder element gear, and other gears mentioned and test out stun till theres nothing left in the rumours. Who knows, one day, maybe I'll get bored enough to do it, but for the time being I'll just stick to bitching about how kirin resists most of my spells, and not doing alot about it :p

I'll agree with what has been said, you need to ask yourself about the situation. If you need a fast stun, for example Jorm's blizzaga III, you don't have time to swap in equipment, and as I see your BLM is 75 so I'll assume you won't get resisted on it, so you would go with a /ma "stun" <t> macro only, no equip change. However, as Caerloc said, if you're trying to give your tank a few seconds to recast or whatever, then you might want to have your thunder staff and Abyssal Earring and what not.

Personally, I always have my Abyssal on, and I have a macro to equip my Thunder Staff. So if I want to have it equipped on stun, I just hit that macro before I stun.

It's also good to think ahead. If you're up in a certain stun order, well you might wanna equip your thunder staff right when your turn comes, in which case you'll have both the thunder potency of the staff, and the speed of having your spell as first line in your macro.

Hi there :)

Another reason for keeping any gear swaps out of the actual Stun macro is that the macroed-in stat boosts will not immediately take effect. I first noticed this when equipping some MND gear and the appropriate staff for a cure as Bst. I originally had the macro set up as:

/equip
/equip
/equip
/ma Cure <me>

and I wasn't receiving the benefit of my gear. After changing to an <stpc> to allow me to manually activate the cast, the gear boosts began to apply.

Given the cast speed of Stun relative to any Cure, the server would have even less time to acknowledge the change in stats provided by your gear swap.

Hope this helps!

MND barely affects cure... like at all...

MND does affect Cure, but CureI-IV has caps you easily reach simply by leveling your healing
magic. CureV on the other hand, as far as i know, has no cap at all, or at the very least its a
very high cap. Boosting your mnd for a CureV will show you a difference even at 75 with capped
healing magic.

True enough . . .

Apollo's staff on the other hand . . .

And since I already have the MND gear with me for those occasions when I need to use [Reward], I figure that every little bit can only help, especially if the sum total of your Healing skill is coming from your sub.

Easiest way to do it is to have 2 stun macros.

One is plain /ma "Stun" <t>.

Other has your equip swaps, for helping the NIN recast his shadows or whatever you need the mob stunned, not simply interrupted.
