Stupid company policies

Unions usually turn anything to shit, they do the opposite of what is intended. I was watching an A&E special on Walmart (shut up it was raining outside) and every store that went union, Walmart would close. The funniest thing was that they were told they would close if they went union and the morons did it anyway and lost their jobs. Sometimes, Walmart would even open a new store a couple miles away from the one they closed just to prove a point.

Unions are also the reason some people get lazy in their jobs after being in them for a while. They know they get the most hours, the most pay and wont get fired before someone with less seniority. Unless it's blatantly obvious they should be let go.

Keep in mind I said *usually* not always.

What possible reason could retail need a union for? Your life isn't in danger, unless you're an absolute genetic waste. So it's not like you need it for better working conditions. Theres a reason retail is minimum wage too. Not a whole lot to learn, not a whole lot needed to perform. I'd love to spend my day standing in a spot pressing buttons, or putting boxes on shelves. But I love cooking a lot more than doing things you could train a monkey to do.

Better wages, working conditions, affordable health coverage and reasonable working hours?

Then again, I'm biased in favor of unions because I'm from the West Virginia coalfields. The difference in pay and benefits between the union and non-union mines is fairly stark. It's pretty much ingrained in my DNA at this point that management will try to fuck the worker any way they can.

The company I work for has company employees and union employees. All the plant workers are union, but I am a company employee. The union employees have their benefits and we have ours, but both systems seem to work well together. Basically a union is in place to help the employee protect their job. It works well in states like mine, that have an "at will" employment policy like someone mentioned earlier in this thread. Its very difficult to lose your job as a union employee it seems, but for me, I could be fired for no reason what-so-ever at any time lol

"Someone", hmph! Someone has a name, dammit.

In seriousness, unions are a great idea often gone far awry because of ... you guessed it, greed and laziness.

My dad's a company man in a power plant, and while he technically "supervises", he oftentimes feels like he can't even visit the restroom without OKing it with the local union head. He can't hardly reprimand anyone, despite half of them not even doing their jobs, because of the ridiculous protection clauses their unions have.

I get paid to play videogames and i make a good chunk over minimum wage.

Its about time we had a success story in this thread.

I'd hate making games. It'd make me overly critical of everything I play. Kinda like I am with food since I cook :(

Basically the problem i run in to with everything i play.

I work in retail and have no complaints what so ever. I talk to people all day, and is free to surf the web for personal reasons every now and then without anyone caring. Can bring my dogs to work etc. Life's good. Granted, there's the occasional moronic customer, shoplifter etc. But it makes for a good story with the security guards and colleagues.

I worked at a deli once.If you arrived early they frowned upon you not helping out your fellow employees aka working early. Now this is a nice idea to help others out and all but when I arrive 45~30 minutes early and I'm technically a paying customer eating breakfast i don't enjoy the idea of working for free for that long(they don't pay until the second my official shift starts) when I'm trying to relax before I start work. I also disliked how the boss would have us work after our official times and then the second it was 29 minutes after she's punch our clocks out to prevent having to pay us overtime and send us home.

unions are what killed the united auto companies.

I agree, but the larger problem is that most people are only out for #1 and will fuck anybody. This goes for union trying to fuck management too. Most can't see the forrest from the trees and don't see how their actions damage everything. This is a very large problem in this country, and I'm not just talking about union relations, but every facet of this society.

wow you call off a lot.
3 times in over a year?
and all for valid reasons, Its not like i call off to go to a concert or to wait in line for video games or something pointless, i miss out on alot of fun stuff cause i have to work, ive called off 3 times and all with valid reason.
But to degrade someone no matter the reason for the call off is sick, They even try to make you feel like the work you do there is horrible too, even though you do the same job everyone else in your department does.

This place just doesnt care.
Example.

two nights ago a meat department worker was abducted in the parking lot when leaving from her shift, the man told her "Get in the car and drive or i will hurt you"
So she did, she was so afraid and traumatized that she does not even barely remember what he looked like or anything he really said.

The store is notified. her father works there too.
No employees are notified, no one knows it happened except for the people her father told, but he has a heavy foreign accent, and its hard to understand him.
So we all thought the story was that she just "gave" a stranger a ride home.
Later we hear from a union steward the full story.

A female co worker tells me the story as she is leaving her shift, asked me to walk her to her car because she was scared, so i did.
And what do you think happens?
The same fuckin guy comes out from hiding behind a mini van, in the same pose for the night before, hands in pocked, telling a story and asking for a ride.
I told him that we were only on break and were not allowed to leave the store.
I told the girl to get in her car and start it up and drive right away.

I went in, called the store director, whom called security, wrote up a witness report just after someone else saw him threatening a customer in the lot for a ride.
But who circles the lot?
Our union steward and one of my best friends, and the in store security.
No cops were called, No employees were again notified.
The only way we all know now is by word of mouth.
So why not post a notice to beware of a man in the parking lot...when instead they focused more on a dress code notice.

I simply cant stand how most of the higher ups treat everyone there like shit. But when it comes to them, their family and health and lives are golder.

We had an employee cut off his finger on a meat cutter, They called his manager to come in otherwise they would have no meat cutter for the night, His wife tells us "hes home, He just doesnt wanna talk to you"
so we tell her what happened, she tells him and he said "So?"
doesnt call back, doesnt come in.

Sickening.

I am unionized. It gives me job security and a good foundation for pay increases and benefits. It has also created a disgusting class of lazy fucks who complete 60% of their work and they do it improperly. It is impossible to get rid of them and I find more lazy people trying to become employed here because of the protection.

This.

There was a news report a while back that reported that a line worker, with no education(not even a GED is required) was making, with benefits, something obscene like $95 per hour. That's more than college graduate engineer's, or anyone else aside from CEO's, movie stars and coke dealers. It's obscene how much they get away with and they need to be removed. It was a great idea back in the 1920's when labor was cheap, unskilled and abundtant; but now it's nothing more than a major money sink that has no real place in business.

My point exactly.

I'm very glad there are people out there that get this.
