Any good musician doesn't make their money off of studio releases, it's off of live shows. Ever think about how much money a single concert brings in? 20-40 thousand tickets at 20-200 a ticket for an average band, $500k about per concert, even with expenses, thats bank. And they do at least 20 concerts a year, say the band makes even only 10% of that profit in the end, that's 1 mil profit for the band. They aren't gonna starve off of that kind of money, and it's not like they're working harder than a construction worker making 40k a year.

Just so you know this does not imply to most bands not even half. Most bands LOSE money touring but do so to promote record sales and because they love to play live. Also, 40k a year is ftl.

Hows that?

I dunno its some thing in the terms of service or whatever, that the songs aren't actually yours, or something. I may actually be wrong about that. But they are most certainly not CD quality.

The very fact that your using an MP3 player leads me to believe you've never followed those kinds of rules anyway, why should it matter now?

Your telling me you've never downloaded a song?

As far as not CD quality? How can you tell when everybody else can't? The human ear can't even hear all the sound a CD can put out anyway.

If your comparing 1 CD to a digital format downloaded I gotta tell you that its an unfair comparison. Because you don't know where the song was encoded from, If it was remastered, and anyway you can change digital music as you please so not that it matters much. To get a fair comparison you should try encoding the CD yourself in 128kbps then compare those 2. I'd think you would be hard pressed to tell the difference. I am aware that there is a difference but not one I'd make a big deal about for 1 dollar a song.

Unless of course if your an Audiophile, but then again if you are it would'nt matter much if you coudn't distinguish it. It'd matter more how you made it than how it sounded, because of principle.

It seems I am now in over my head, I don't even use Itunes so I'm actually past the point of putting effort into this. I'll just say...YOU WIN. b(^^)

I actually use itunes and realplayes to buy (legally!) and DL cdaudio files. It's cd quality, and you can get entire albums for 9.99, making it cheaper than the store, but the artist still gets their money. You can alos get songs for 99 cents a piece, which i use a lot b/c I don't want the whole album. Then i rip them to cd, plug them back into my compuer as mp3s. Don't ask me why, i can't get the stupid audio files to convert directly on the pc but oh well. I use the cds in my car anyway.
