It was during our break in Med/Surg and I was talking to a friend about acid base balance. I explained to her that a human person could have an alkaline pH and still be in acidosis and my teacher who overheard called me out in front of the whole class saying I was wrong. I wasn't wrong and she practically yelled at me. I wasn't even talking to her, the bitch.

Teachers aren't always right, this is one of those cases. This should be moved, though, to the RL forum, since its not game related. Sorry Kink, thats the new guidelines.

Being a med student, Kink, I have a few questions to ask you about a certain topic. I'll try to get back on FF asap cuz I really do need to ask you something.

Rule
2) The Flameboard is for in-game and game-related occurances only. Anything else will be moved to their appropriate forum (or deleted, pending the thread).

moved.

if I were you, Id stand up to her and tell her to go read into it.

Could you be more specific of the case of acidosis? I understand that our bodies are meant to be alkaline and you can be in acidosis by your pH being more acidic than it is normally. Our bodies pH is between 7.35 and 7.45. The closer is gets to 7.00, then the more acidic it is. Even if it is still a base. Your "teacher" is making no sense. After all, the safe displatia of pH is only within a one tenth range. That said, it doesn't take much to throw your body off and really screw you up IE: acidosis. Is there anything wrong with the patients flow of Phosphate and protiens? Also check respiratory changes as hyperventilation is the bodies natural way of trying to change it's pH to be more basic. In that you'll have OH- (I don't know how to make that a superscript, but it's negative) + CO2 (subscript that) ---> HCO3- (subscript the 3, superscript the negative). It can also produce some changes necessary to alter the level of PaCO2. I mean, of course this all is case by case. If it's renal, urinary, alcohol induced or anything along those lines. Either way, your teacher is a jackass. Ignore it though, no sense in stirring shit when you're liable to be pushed in the pot.

I wondered why all those posts have been moved. Anyway feel free to send me a pm here or just post it in the reality section. Seems like we got some smart people running around here.

The patient was hypothetical, I was helping a fellow student who was having trouble with respiratory acidosis, respiratory alkalosis and metabolic acidosis, metabolic alkalosis and just tossed that little tidbit in for fun and to help her understand that people are alkaline. The teacher butting in and calling me out for being wrong just pissed me off. I won't even participate in her class anymore because when I give a correct answer she pretends not to hear me and waits until someone else repeats the answer or gives it herself like I didn't say anything. She really has issues. Most of her teaching is like this intellectual masturbatory process to feed her own inflated ego and my friends are paying the price because they just aren't getting it.

I have that same problem in my Art History class. She is probably just angry because you are waaaay better looking than her.
