Stupid or Acceptable?

Hey-
I would like to start leveling a PLD for side quests like Promy ENMs. However, my problem is that I am a tarutaru. Wondering how many of you would keep away from a taru PLD.

I unlocked pld with the notion I was going to try it out.
rumor has it that Taru's have awesome Vit.
I've pt'd with one Taru pld around lvl 40.. He did really well, but was having to constantly heal himself despite my whm efforts..
I was thinking on leveling pld as a Taru with whm subbed . for the added healing. I don't see myself taking it beyond 20.. I'd like to see some feedback on this as well..
Way I see it.. if you can get the "best" gear, a Taru should be able to handle the pld job til around 45 or so then the competition gets fierce and a taru pld would be a high def dd ... but that's my opinion.. look forward to what everyone else says.
 
Do what you like. This game has no restrictions just limitations. However, for promys NIN is far more valuable in most cases throughout the story missions. Might want to consider that unless you wanted to Lv up PLD as a main job.
 
in my experience, taru plds do fine.

Darthyoda, unless you are solo'n, stay /war. Pld/Whm is virtually useless in a party environment.
 
Xeones is a Lv. 70+ taru PLD, and he's a good tank. Yeah, you have to work harder to compensate, but that's part of the fun. You'll take more damage, but you have more MP to heal yourself and keep hate.

It can't hurt to try, considering you're not planning to go beyond ENM levels.
 
just watch out for Sickle Slash coming up in the levels...lol.

i know a few TT plds that tended to get one-shotted by that...

The best tank I remember having was a Taru Pal. Lilboyblue. Mobs with crazy special attacks like spiders might want to be avoided if at all possible.

The rumor of a Taru having awesome VIT is incorrect. They have the lowest VIT for a PLD versus the other classes at the same level. Taru PLD's do have the best HP potential due to their massive MP pool though :wink: . I know a couple awesome Taru PLD's so once again it's not really about the race that makes a job great.. its about the player and their ability to adapt / compensate to the situation at hand. Taru PLD's do have to concentrate on HP and VIT gear and to avoid mobs that do massive amounts of single / double attack damage, ie. Sickle Slash.
 
I've partied with a taru PLD at CN levels. He was fine versus beetles and crawlers, although I'm sure he'd have a hard time versus screwdriver and sickleslash. He took more damage from attacks, but had the mp to heal himself more than other pld's. The net result was good hate control.

I have war to 18 for drg.. people look at me funny as a 27 drg.. but now I'll try taking my pld from 1 to whatever and see where it gets me..
it's still taking a backseat to my other jobs..
priorities are:
**job (lvl)**

blm (32) --> drg (27) --> smn (26) --> whm (50) --> rdm (29) --> etc... in that order..

so I guess etc.. now this would mean:
mnk (10) --> sam (3) --> pld (1) --> thf (7) --> rng (9) --> war (18 ) --> bst (1) --> brd (1) ---> nin (1) .. and whatever else..

sticking with blm and drg for the long term..

Thanks for all the info. I'm still a little unsure what to do ; ; This is how I see things.

- I have a SMN at level 10, and it would help greatly to have one at least at level 30. My only problem with it is that I dont really like the job that much, perhaps things will get better when I reach 20 and start getting new avatars.
- NIN sounds tempting, but I hear it is very expensive. Other than that it is also job I would like to try.
- PLD is a job I have wanted to try out ever since I started. So I will probably try that one first.

Unfortunately we had a huge storm and a branch fell on and broke our cable line, so no internet, guess I have some time to think about it. :roll:

I have my favorites .. unfortunately in the mind of others, certain races should stick to certain jobs..
I personally feel that any race or person can do any job.. the gear is out there.. however many people will only invite what their opinions say are good jobs .. and will laugh at say.. Galkan white mages, or Taru melee..
or even Elvaan summoners or Mithran .. wait Mithran can do anything.. so can Hume.
but it seems that Galkan and Taru are stereotyped.. I have an elvaan mule.. who was my original character .. so my suggestion is.. for a dollar more a month. you can have another char.. another race ..
nothing beats the stigma that others place on us .. what you can or can't do.. I hate waiting for an invite on my taru drg.. sure my elvaan has drg.. but I enjoy it more and find it more challenging as a Taru.. I have good gear and get complimented everytime I pt with it.. As such I feel that a Taru Drg/ redmage or whitemage can have some serious benefits.. but until someone "lets" me pt with a different sub.. I stick with warrior. because otherwise.. I won't get a pt and thus won't progress.. frustrating.. but thats the price I pay for doing what "I" want to do.

hell my elvaan ass got one hitted by that on occasion.
 
Firestreak = Kick ass Taru PLD!

I was pting with him long ago when i would level rdm.
 
<- EX Taru PLD. At one point i out HPed Greco and Koryu in my LS, but they eventually got uber and maxxed me. at 75 with some merits i hit 1430 HP without Gigant.
 
yeah man, if galkas can rock the white mage, and i know some who can (well, ok fortresspalm is the only one i know besides spiegler) do their job damn well, there is no reason a taru cant tank as pld if they know how to adapt to the shortcomings of being a taru tank.

one of my fav tanks to party with ever was a taru, just because its more fun to watch XD...

And to hell with people who look at tarus playing a certain job funny, when the mighty galkas who leveled their rangers and paladins and what not are all turning around and leveling things like whm, brd, and summoner. I'm a 45 taru drg, and I'm damn proud of it. Don't plan on stopping any time soon either.

I have my pet peeves about races and jobs, but it doesnt mean anything about whether or not it can actually happen. I'm sure people are going to be just as skeptical about things like that as I am with galka mages, but again thats just my own personal hangups, like people's problems with darks vs drg as damage dealers.
 
Too bad taru tanks are really hard to SATA...

Hehe i levelled whm as an elvaan to lvl 50 for promathia, hehe.
