style contest about to close, please have a look

What armour is that in the first map one? :o

All of it looks good to me. I don't see a problem with the earth tones, but I think that Quetzalcoatl in the header looks a little "tacked in" and hasn't been blended into the image that great.

Other then that, I'm pretty impressed by his entries.

I like both, but I think he should add in the quetzalcoatl summon into the heading regardless.

I personally like the earth toned version with te mithra and taru the most.

I will set up a test board for bearbrick to try and implement some of his styles. We will see how that goes. I am really not liking the idea of having two styles available, but since they are so different, I do see somewhat of a dilemma of getting one and facing the wrath of those users who wanted the other.

The current style is somewhat of a neutral ground as far as colors go, but the two designs bearbrick came up with are definitely more ..., vivid? Something like that anyway.

Your choice in design doesn't matter much to me. I know you'll make a good choice. I do like the mithra/taru design more because it brings out the uniqueness to the FFXI. The hume shots just seem to scream "Final Fantasy"... but not this version. Natural tones won't be too bad because it is drawing into spring/summer season. (I honestly love nature tones..) They're pretty, and easy on the eyes. I didn't care for the other guy's entry at all. It was just bleh. I'd say just keep working with this brick guy until he comes up with that "perfect look" because he does great work. It just seems he needs a slight compromise. Not too dark, not too vibrantly green... and toss in a mithra... and a new font.

..and maybe a bag of chips.

I really like the last one with the FF8 summon. :)

QFT I agree 100%

That one is by far my favorite ^^

I think you should give him the full $250 as long as we are allowed to use all of the ones he designed along with the current one.

I like the earthy tones too, the first two's fonts are kind of bland.

Earth tones are the very definition of bland-mix. Strong contrasts of blue, white, and black are hard to call bland.

Well, the name of the forums don't stand out.

Nearly the same color as we have now...and the forum colors are the same in both forms (earth tone and his early suggestion). Only the borders are different. I thought he origonally had earth tone text color too, but he seems to have changed his linked pictures.

Maybe to someone with highly impaired vision, borderline blind -_-

Isotope, 169k for you sig is somewhat too large, like by some 100k. Try saving it using JPEG 60% or so, it will look the same and won't be huge.

Thanks.

Short update.
I paid the bearbrick guy $125 on APR 16th, rest due upon completion.
I gave him admin and FTP access to the test board, and I haven't heard from him since. I sent numerous PMs asking what the status is and when he can provide the final version - nothing.

Not sure what to make of it, he has been posting on sitepoint pretty much daily between the 16th and today, entering a bunch of other contests.

It's entirely possible that he will not follow through, which would mean lost time to get a new style, and $125 lost as well of course.

Ouch. If he doesn't follow through, you might want to post warnings in any other contests he tries to enter about his reliability.
