First off, this is only for the lower levels before grouping up. Assuming you have BST unlocked and would like to raise a jog to the point where you can get into parties, why not sub BST?

Pros:
You get a charmed pet to help you fight.
You can charm the monster you are fighting if it is too tough (not in all cases though)
Running away is much easier because you can run while your pet is getting its face kicked in.

Cons:
It's probably not the best combo ever.
It wont work as a permanent sub.

Anyone have anything to add? I leveled my THF in this way, but I havent leveled it since then because I gave up on farming. It worked very well for early soloing.

-Ham

if you job can use a bow, sub /rng early on. Low level foes die in 1-2 hits with a bow (expecially longbows), and it makes 1-10 a breeze.

Unfortunately, your ability to charm is dependant on your CHR, and in practice you can't charm anything helpful unless BST is your main. (BRD main maybe?).

I have tried the combo for levelling my WHM.

My conclusion ... (hmmm) ... I made from 9 to 12 pretty quickly in konschtad leveling on worms and charming lizards on lizards. I was happy, i though "cool i can solo my WHM until 25 for sneak/inv". And then I ding 12 and hit a wall. Thats a big drawback with BST (subbed or not) : certain levels are pretty difficult (they are saying in BST forum on allakhazam that its getting better after lvl 30). It's when EM mobs are tored appart by T mobs, and that was the case for me in konschtad at level 12. I died something like 10 time and made it barely to the half of level 12 in the time I normally solo to 15 on EP.

-> An advice : In these early levels, hate management is a real problem. Even as a WHM, I easily took aggro from my pets. So I had the choice :
- Helps my pet, losing MP on cures, having a chance to die and losing XP if my pet survive (which was the case most of the time).
- Only debuff the mob and let the pet do the job and have a great chance to die if the T mob kill my pet too quickly (which was the case most of the time again).

I must add that before lvl 10 it's much quicker to simply solo mobs (charm help killing quickly but the XP loss greatly minimize this advantage).
