okay... so i spent about three weeks lvling up whm for a subjob because i thought it would be cool to have a priest/monk combo thing for RPing pourposes. so, i sub whm, trot out to look for an invite in quifm, and shockingly get one. just before we head out to start fighting, someone says "u know u have whm subbed, right des?" I was rather annoyed at the "u"s, and even if the guy was rank 5 i didn't take his advice to heart. he got all pissed about it and said "u shouldnt sub a mage at all" when i told him i also had rdm... now i know i'm not the first one to do that.

anyways, thats not the point. when i was about to defend my sub for having more mp over a diversity of spells before i knew he wouldn't like rdm either, i look at my mp bar. as a rdm i have 36. as a whm, i have a whole, big, whopping...

40.

that means one more cure. what the HELL? I know there's a bigger difference than that when i'm playing them at the sub levels... its supposed to be about a fourth, right? so i know a whm at 10 would have more than 16 mp over a rdm! perhaps i was mistaken...

so, my question is, is there a stat (mnd, int, etc) that controls mp amounts? one that wouldn't have changed much with the jobs? or is there really that little a difference? if so, screw whm for soloing, i'll just use an rdm and retain a little more melee!

dont believe so.. but sorry... i would honestly recomend... not subbing whm or rdm on your monk...

alot of people drop monk because its a pain in the ass to get party invites because its so under-rated from 25-50

however there are items that subtract hp and add mp...

The stats that determines the amount of MP that you have is your race, job, and level. Obviously if you sub a job that has MP, your MP will be significantly less.

On another note. I don't think the WHM over RDM reasoning makes little difference if you're subbing a mage class for your monk main job. Monks' role in party is to dish out damage. Subbing a mage class does not help you in that regards.

Sure it might give you some MP, but with 36 MP you can cast Cure II and Cure I once each time. However if you sub warrior, you get provoke, attack up, beserk, and defense up (at your current level). The benefits of warrior subjob are definitely better at helping your monk main to do its primary function of damage dealing.

Go ahead and sub WHM or RDM to roleplay and solo. But please sub warrior for parties.

gah... fine. the lvl 75 said it...

but because i don't like it, i'm gonna use a mace while lvling warrior, just to be difficult. :?

i also rearely healed with rdm... mostly light enfeebling. thought whm would give me more mp to cast a samller range of spells...

I too, would strongly urge you to not sub any mage class on your monk.

Actually, most monks 65+ will tell you that the so called 'Dark Period" (as we've named it) lasts from 45-60, and in some cases 65. The absolute worst of it is 52-60.

The best sub job for monk is warrior hands down. Thief works post-60, and can be decent pre-50 (but not advised since you lose attack up, defense up, berserk and defender). But from 50-60 warrior sub is almost a must, no other sub jobs can offer anything that compares to double attack from 50-60. At 60 subbing thief you can sata, at 65 you can sata Dragon Kick which deals some nice damage.

Anyway, if you need any advice for monk stuff Desini, gimme a /tell and i'll be glad to help you out.

Mnk subs are 2 folds:

Warrior: For major damage. They get berserk, double attack (important), defender (when needed), provoke, warcry, Def up +1, Atk up +1. Most damage increase sub job.

Thief: This becomes reliable usually around 60+ when you can finally use Trick attack. They are basically the skill chain ender, replacing usually the thief with this SJ. They have sneak attack, trick attack. Around 70s usuall damage done by monk ending a light skill chain varies from 900~1200 + light skill chain damage.

Now for Whm. The only time I think you will be subbing whm are when doing missions for MGS, skill up party so that you can cure yourself (this is common sence, all melees sub whm for self curing. Why? Whm also come into this tour for skillup not to cure you) and finally MND boosting for HNM purpose using Chi blast. Thats really about it...

I know roleplaying is fun. There is one player in this server doing it. You know Bono right? 68 Blm without sub? Hes roleplaying aswell. Although he levels slowly, its admirable to come this far for roleplaying purpose. I bet his goal is to reach 75 without as sub.

Sadly I have to tell you, most People on this Board, at least those who Post, are not very Forgiving in Terms of Crappy Gear or bad Subs.

Ninja is also quite useful 74+ for HNM battles and Dynamis.

dont need to be 74+ to tank HNM's as nin. It is preferable but not necessary. We've had a 68-70 nin do fine on hnms, although now there are 3 lol.

If you have dark knight leveled to 10 sub that instead of white mage. After you hit 30 sub warrior for berserk :D

I meant subbing nin as a 74+ monk is useful for dynamis runs and HNM battles.

I don't wanna come off as agressive but how do you role-play with random people in Qufim? I thought it would be more fun to RP with others who are RPin as well.

And post 66 if theres a drk they will have the job for SATA so I would switch back to war sub around that time.

About you using a Club as WAR, umm...yeah...

If you like using H2H, use it with WAR, sub MNK(obviously) and punch things like you did as MNK...

As for being MNK/WHM for Roleplay purposes, that really is only good when you actually RP...however, for partying with random people, /WAR is a much better and perfered subjob choice...

Reason why it is also better to sub a melee job with your melee main is because as MNK you might need to SC, if you sub a mage job you have to rest after every battle to regain MP which ruins your TP, unlike if you were to sub WAR, not only would hit harder, but also you won't have to rest for MP...

If anything you can still RP well as a Preist Monk type person. You just won't have White Magic, but maybe you can be a Preist Monk Protector type person?

i acctualy mostly RP with myself, due to the fact that i've met two other RPers on the whole freaking thing...

bah. i'm gonna sam when i can, but that won't be for a little while.
