Can someone give me the general idea on how subtle blow works (I know it makes you give the mob Less TP) But lets say I add +10 Subtle blow from Dragon Harness how much is that really going to effect it? Any details about Subtle Blow are appreciated.

My main area in question is oncei cap my evasion Is Stacking Subtle blow gonna be better than Eva+ ( Not Skill) for soloing.

Thanks in advance.

I was under the impression that subtle blow/store TP were both 0.1% either way.
So Subtle Blow would knock 1% TP off each of your swings.

Each one of our swings give s the mob like 3TP right? So I would imagine you would need alot of subtle blow to cancel 1% per hit. I really dont know though I hopes eomoen else does.

Also can Subtle Blow be Capped?

No. mobs get the TP you got, +3

Information that i found 1 month ago when i was searching for the same thing:

- Job Trait always active.
- Subtle Blow trait decreases the enemy's TP gain per hit.
- Subtle Blow I reduces TP given to enemies by 5%
- Subtle Blow II reduces TP given to enemies by 10%
- Subtle Blow also reduces the TP given to enemies from damaging spells.
- The maximum amount of Subtle Blow that will be calculated is 50%, any additional Subtle Blow added past this point will have no effect

Particular jobs:

- MNK has 20% Subtle Blow @ level 75
- NIN has 25% Subtle Blow @ level 75

Formulas:

Physical Damage:

(Base TP + 3) * (1 - SubtleBlow%)

Damage Spells:

10 * (1 - SubtleBlow%)

Whats still mystifying to me is how much Subtle Blow do merits, Unji and Unsho and other +Subtle Blow items actually give in % figures... at what point does a NIN hit 50% for instance?

Go out as a nin/bst. Slow the mob with ninjusti. Then let it attack you one time and land a hit. Charm it. Check its TP%. Wait for unclaim. Hit it once. (Got to big a mob that can take some good hits) charm it again work out its tp it gained from your hit. Do again till you found out what 1 subtle blow = ?%

What about that Pulwan gear? How is the subtle blow rate on that?

Only the entire Pahluwan set gives "Subtle blow" and i don't think it gives you more than 2 or 3 %

Thanks for the numbers.

Ok, let's see here...

Subtle Blow is simply reverse Store TP for the mob. +1 subtle blow = 1% reduction in mob TP gain. From a fast 2-weapon user, that TP gain is 5+3=8 per hit, or so. +50 subtle blow would cut that in half, to 4 per hit.

Now, as to how much good subtle blow will do for a THF... About the only good subtle blow gear for THF is the Dragon set. Dragon set adds up to +20 subtle blow. If you're already at a significant evasion rate (cap = 85%), it certainly won't hurt. If a dagger gives 4 TP per hit, full dragon reduces mob TP gain to 5.6 per hit. Depending on what you're fighting, might be worth it, might not.

Pln. set gives... I've heard +5 and +10, I'd assume +5. Either way, it's nearly useless, only good for the other stats.

NIN will not hit 50% without Monk's Roll or ridiculous gear. Base 25%. Merits add 5, Rajas adds another 5 (35%). Weapons add 2 (37%). At this point, only way to hit 50% is with lolSash and Hades Sainti +1... one's the rarest item in the game, and the other isn't a katana.

From what I've heard, lucky 11 Monk's Roll with a Monk in the party will add 25% subtle blow, which makes capping subtle blow very easy for MNK and NIN. (btw, NIN MNK MNK BRD COR RDM with Monk's Roll = nill TP for mobs)

yeah, they attack like 50,000 times for tp, i guess its there so that the "weak swings" for tp dont generate as much tp for the mob. *shrug*

That was my view on it, really.

THF daggers don't do much damage. They have two choices. Reduce the TP those hits give, or increase the damage they do. 99% of the time, increasing the damage will do more good than decreasing the TP.

I've found Subtle Blow to be quite useful for MNK/NIN solo on some of the... angrier mobs in the game, like Phuabo and other joyous and painful anti-shadow moves... Even the +15 (35%) I use is enough to get some nice results. But the thing is... it's good DD gear with subtle blow on it (melee gloves/hose, Rajas), rather than what THF gets in the dragon set. There's better DD or evasion peices in every slot.

Daggers really arent that weak anymore even at level 70 soloidng DC my daggers are hitting for 70-90 dmg. Harpe / Sirocco. But ons omething like a DC-T Dragon gear specially harness is the best dmg increase that we can get.

What would base /nin Subtle Blow be?

There hasn't been enough testing to determine exactly when each Subtle Blow trait comes into play, but /NIN37 should be 10-15%.

And see, you're soloing DC. I was thinking you would be going after something harder, where attack and accuracy would play more of a role.

At 75 ninja has Subtle Blow +25. That means:
mob TP = (your TP + 3) * 0.75
S/F 1 DW enhancement = (4.7 + 3) * 0.75 = 5.7 TP (vs your 4.7 before Store TP)
S/F 2 DW enhancement = (4.6 + 3) * 0.75 = 5.7 TP (vs your 4.6 before Store TP)

Full merits gives you +5, Rajas gives +5, nothing else worthwhile and reasonably attainable gives subtle blow besides U/U.

U/U full merits + Rajas + 1-2 DW enhancements = (4.5 +3) * 0.63 = 4.7 TP (vs your 4.5 TP before Store TP, 4.7 from the Rajas)

You're not going to hit 50% without help from a Corsair. You're not going to even reach the point where you get more TP than the mob using katanas without Rajas Ring, /sam, and/or a COR.

I believe it goes 10, 5, 5, 5 just like Store TP on Sam, and they're gained at 15, 35, 55, and 75 for ninja. That would make /35Nin give +15.

Well without Ni yet anything tougher than DC is a chore to solo... when I do get Ni and I start into some tougher mobs the dragon gear specially harness is great for dmg and for Subtle Blow. Scorpion Harness or Dragon Harness, that is the question.

I'd toss the rappare harness in there for solo. I used to solo alot on a friends thf from time to time and stacking haste to get Ni recast timers down used to let me stick to Ni recast most of the time for T mobs. Mobs that con tougher then T you might want to use something else though.
