Do you have your own amazon wish list? Do you display it on your web site? Did anyone ever buy you anything off of it?
I had an interesting IM conversation with another forum admin today. For the longest time he had the "Paypal Donate" button on his forum to cover hosting costs and contests and such. He never really received a whole lot of donations, though he also never made public who donated how much, so users had no way to know if he wasn't making ends meet.
Anway, so he replaced the paypal donate with an amazon wishlist link, and people have been buying him a bunch of stuff off of his wishlist ever since. Works for him. My point that the only reason those things are on the wish list is that one wouldn't necessarily buy them, even though they would be good to have, was totally lost. Meaning that if it is X amount of money to run a site, and someone buys me a book that's worth X, I do have a book, but I still need to come up with X to pay for the site.
Anyone using a wishlist on their site (iFriends doesn't count!). Care to share a link to it (by PM if you want)? I am just curious to get an idea on whether site visitors actually use the wish list link more so than they would donate buttons or ads.
