Super Bowl History...

Everyone blames Rex, because of the whole, "When he's on, he's on...And when he's off, he's really off" thing.

It's not the fact that he threw 2 INTs in the big game, it's the fact that when he threw those picks he underthrew open receivers by >10 yards...and he didn't face noteable pressure on either throw.

Keep in mind the Bears were 13-3 with that POS QB. Imagine if they had someone even halfway reasonable (Jeff Garcia, McNair, Warner etc. etc.)

Somewhere, Trent Dilfer is

More Super Bowl history:

Hester had the first opening kick-off touchdown return in a Super Bowl.

Rex Grossman was the first quarterback to sack himself twice in the same drive.

I won 300 bucks because of my Super Bowl pool, but it still sucks hard that we lost.

Seriously, Rex, I hate you.

/em gets out his giant club of ignorant fool beating.

Rex Grossman is NOT the main REASON the Bears lost damn it. I am so fucking tired of hearing this. Did you watch the game? Did you see how many BAD calls Ron Turner made? 1st and 10 Turner calls passes then went to the run. Now the key factor Riveria had the corners 7 yards off the receiver and the safties 12 yards off. Also when the Colts lineman (Diem) went down Riveria should have been bringing blitzes to that side on the inexperienced player. Did they do that? No Riveria didn't do that. I also never realized Rex Grossmen was in on every play including the defense who kept letting those short dunk passes for first downs go by! Wow Grossman has real talent if he can play quarterback AND be a whole defense. IT WILL NEVER BE QB VS QB. You want to know why that statement stands true? A quarterback and another quarterback from the opposing team will NEVER be on the field at the same time during game play.

Fuck if you want to blame someone blame Ron Turner and Riveria for telling Smith to make bad play calling. Also note that I will agree Grossman did contribute to a loss but it isn't Grossman running every play to the end zone himself and that will never happen. Who would watch a best 2 out of 3 where you have two quarterbacks unopposed running for their endzone to see who can get there first? Then that would be QB versus QB and a gay ass thing to watch. Also make note this WAS Grossman's first full year as QB with out a FREAK injury to a QB. You wish to know what that means? The 2006 season can be considered Grossman's rookie year and what did he do? He lead the Bears to a Super Bowl.

Fuck some people really need logic and to stop listening to Jay Mariotti and The Score Radio 670 AM in Chicago.

A more accurate statement would be that the 2006 Bears made it to the Super Bowl despite Rex, a testament to how good the special teams and defense were.

This coaching staff managed to piss away one of the great defenses of all-time.

I'm assuming that during the game Thomas Jones must've sustained an injury, I don't know how else you can explain the seemingly random substitutions of Benson into the ballgame before his injury, and the lack of run calls with the Da Bears only down by 2 scores...the Mannings showed no real ability to stop it consistently.

They were using Benson to pound the ball because Benson is Jerome Bettis-ish and can just pound the crap out of people that is why from November to the Super Bowl you saw Benson come in more. Altho if you look on the play that Benson got injured the Colts person went helmet-to-helmet which is a penalty now. Also make note that Grossman weeks 1-5 played like an MVP candidate and NO ONE hated him then but as soon as he had some bad games (Cards and Dolphs mainly) all you heard was Griese this Griese that. IF anything Griese is even far less proven than Grossman is. Thomas Jones didn't suffer an injury it was bad play calls by Ron Turner.

The problem was, and I am serious go back and watch the footage, the mannings and the safties were so far off the line that their cover zones didn't cover short passes. Their zones covered Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayn leaving Joseph Addai and Dallas Clark open for short routes. It was a massive failure of a team effort. Remember football is a team sport you play to win the game and if you win you won as a team. If you lose you lost as a team. Don't blame Grossmen for being what he is which is Brett Favre pre-Brett Favre. Give Grossmen another year and he will be good to go.

Like I said stop listening to Jay Mariotti and The Score they flip flop so much. I would rather listen to Tony Kornheiser and Micheal Wilbon on PTI for my sports information if there wasn't 1:30 on the clock for each topic. The Chicago sports analists need to stop flip flopping and look at the bright side. Grossmen got the offense to the Super Bowl.

As a final note Devon Hester had 6 touchdowns not 100+ that would win to get to the super bowl. Also make note Hester muffed more punts and kicks than TDs he ran back. So you can't say special teams this special teams that. If Hester didn't muff so many I would agree partially because Hester wont have another 6 TD run backs next year. I can back this up too with one player, Dante Hall. Hall had that ONE season and hasn't done shit since.

Rex didn't "lead" the Bears to anything. He's not even close to being a sucessful quarterback. I mean, when the teams offense is known to be a strong RUNNING, as in running the ball not running a business etc., offense... your QB either sucks or is average. Face it, the team was a piece of shit in disguise much like the beloved Ohio State football team. It's easy to look good when your confrence is weak. Just to note, I'm not a Colts fan or a Bears fan and I don't hate either time. So this observation, that I called mid season and happened to be true, is an unbiased opinion. Go Falcons >.>

So in the third quarter, when Grossman dropped the ball after the snap, was that because of a bad call? Or the next play, when he fell over backwards. Was that how the play was called also? If so, then yes, it clearly wasn't Rex's fault.

Rex was crap all year. He had four games where he wasn't being the worst quarterback ever. Rex contributed the least to the Bears making it to the Super Bowl.

What I don't understand is all you pro-Grossman fans who are blinded by Rex's four or five not-horrible games. He's not a good quarterback. Maybe eventually he'll get better, but this year he was pretty damn useless.

It sucks having a QB that makes you flinch every time he throws the ball, because you aren't sure who's hands it will land in.

Bad call or not, Rex was the best player on the Colts.

Eh, the entire Bears team played badly, except for the special teams. You don't know football if you think its all on Rex. He wasn't that bad, and you speak as if he was the only one who fumbled, which is far from true. The Bears played poorly all year, they just made some plays to squeek out some wins that should of been lossses, and against some rather poor teams I might add (See: Cardinals, Buc's). Strid is definitely right in saying that the NFC was a FAR weaker conferance than the AFC. The Colts, Chargers, Patriots were all way better, and the Bears may have been about even with the Ravens, if that. The real Super Bowl was the AFC championship game.

I'm not saying it was all on Rex, I'm just saying he was awful all year.

I agree with your last sentance, though, that game was great.

Yup. Nobody is blaming Rex exclusively, but he doesn't deserve any more credit than he gets in the above quote either.

Wow, I thought my tattoo made me die hard. Glad my name isn't brad johnson.

Jay Mariotti= Chicago Tribune Sports writer and is often on Around The Horn.

Did you read my post? I said this was ESSENTIALLY GROSSMANS ROOKIE YEAR. Was anyone an outstanding quarterback their first full year of playing? You can't say Vince Young or Matt Leinart they were slated as starters after week 1. A full football year means they started 16 games in the 17 week season. Rex Grossman looks like Brett Favre when Favre started you weren't sure where the ball would go until Favre got to the Packers (Favre was with the Falcons and started 1 game with the Falcons). Grossman has great potential as a gun slinger because he has the arm to do it. By the way did you not see Peyton Manning picking apart the defense because of bad play calls? Damn you're stupid because it looked like Manning was getting the ball down field every time. You can't blame Grossman completely for not handling a wet football. No one bothered to think hey maybe we should get gloves on him so he can grasp the ball better. How many times did Thomas Jones/Cedric Benson receive direct snaps? Oh wait never so that running game involves handing off by the way isn't that contribution? If the Bears were a running team why wasn't the ball being pounded on 1st and 10? I never realized Bernard Berrian Mushin Muhammed Rashid Davis and Mark Bradly (2nd best receiver next to Mushin Muhammed imho) just automatically found the ball in their hands on passing plays either. You say sports radio sucks then why do you say the same shit the sports analysts on the radio say?

Formulate a complete thought. I am not blinded by Grossman's bad games, but Brian Griese HAS NEVER won a Playoff game. Funny wasn't Grossman having a good game against the Saints even the Seahawks even? Last I checked a running game needed the assitance of passing and vice versa. I covered all your "points" as why Grossman was bad. Can we say first FULL season as a starter? Can we say finally no freak ACL or any leg injuries that prohibited him from playing? Grossman will take time to develop in another preseason and win the NFC north again unless the Lions do something because I don't see the Vikings doing anything or the Packers in the 2007 season. The Packers have a young team and I say the Packers will have their year as NFC North champs in 2008 when the Defense and Oline are on their third consecutive year of starting. Also Im sure the Packers will find a better running back besides Ahman Green who tends to fumble.
