In the little free time I have to play FFXI I would prolly just watch TV or play a different game. Unless of course I had a girlfriend to take up that free time, but that's a lot more expensive.
The only people that realize how much a waste of time FFXI is after quitting are the people who truly had no life and just played everyday 8-10hrs a day. If you have a job and some sort of hobby (like going to the gym) and some sort of weekend social life as well like myself then you just see FFXI as a form of entertainment to use in your free time.
have to disagree there, I have a life, wife, 2 kids, job, hobbies outside of computers and video games, i go out just about every weekend with friends and drink, shoot darts/pool/bowling whatever and still played ffxi alot.
and now that im done playing, i realize what a huge waste of time it was and regret playing for so long. having no life or having a life doesnt really qualify as a reason for realizing that,
when anyone can realize that they wasted too much time of their ONE life, on a video game.
actually whats been filling my ffxi time before i even quit, was my reborn love for magic. as in sleights, magic tricks and such...and im getting so good im well known at a local bar as "Spade". Im no wheres near professional material, and my daughter loves it...shes 2 and tries to copy all my tricks, here "whered it go" impersonation is great when you can still see the card in plain view of her hand lol.
i actually filled my ffxi time with something more skillful and useful in the real world, something my kids can get into and i can teach them.
Much better than what i wasted time in ffxi on.
But this pretty much is my POV and realization.
