I want to upgrade my ninja's gear, to tank as nin/drk, and I'd like to hear suggestions from other ninjas. Right now only for omega and ultima tanking. I want a set balanced in Enimity, damage reduction and +HP.

What do you use for:

Slot 1: Legs.

AF2 leg ( HP+40, avasion at night)
Byakko's haidate ( haste+5%, high DEF)
darksteel subligar+1: phys dmg-2%.
something else? enimity piece?

Slot 2: Weapon

Earth staff (phy-20%)
hades sainty ( eva+7 enim+7)

I plan using hades sainty on ultima (tanking) and earth staff on omega (kiting).

Slot 3: cape

Gigant mantle ( HP+80)
resentment cape ( enimity+2, magic dmg -5%)

Slot 4: belt.

RSE mithra ( HP+45)
Koga sarashi ( haste+4%)
Imperial standing belt ( magic-2%)

Notice that I want a set balanced in HP/enimity/haste, not the perfect set for phys-, magic - and enimity. Because for example I wouldn't swap HP gear to enimity/haste gear and back.

Right now I plan on using:

Wpn: Hades Sainty or Earth Staff.
ammo: Nokizaru Shuriken.
Head: Walahra Turban.
body: Ahrat Gi+1
hands: Usukane Gote ( eva+10). Denali when I get.
earrings: Merman's earringx2.
rings: Merman's ringx2.
back: Boxer Mantle (need upgarde)
waist: Koga Sarashi or RSE.
legs: AF2 or Byakko's Haidate.
feet: usukane sune-ate( enimity+5, haste+2%)

I'm a little at a loss at to exactly what you're trying to do (Hades sainti - I wish I'd known you were using those yesterday so I could have slapped you).

The aim for a Nin/Drk in these fights is to maximise hate from spellcasting, not from your gear. In this respect you will want to equip all your Haste+ items primarily, then focus on Dmg- gear and HP if you need it. Some of the HP/Dmg- items have enmity on them anyway, which is an added bonus (Arhats +1 Gi/Jinpachi, High breath mantle).

You should expect to have Refresh, Haste, Ballad and/or March during these fights, something which was simple in the first place, made easier by Pianissimo. The only time you would expect to be one-shotted is during Citadel buster, and even then only if Ultima gets a chance to use it, so I wouldn't concern yourself too much with HP loss from HP-Enmity/Haste swaps.

As for kiting Omega as Nin/Drk, I really don't see the point. Virtually the exact same strategy as Ultima applies to Omega, except it's even easier to kill. Straight tank it, have the non-Utsusemi absorbed moves stunned, and switch out your DD types according to whether he's on 2 legs or 4 (or on his final stage upright stance).

Don't bother with Evasion only items, switch out Physical/Magical Def/Dmg- items as needed.

If you want an illustration of what I would use, the set should look like:

Terra's staff
Mythril grip +1/Shark strap (If you can get one)
Nokizaru shuriken
Walahra turban
Ritter gorget
Loquacious earring
Magnetic earring
Arhats gi +1
Dusk gloves/+1, Koga tekko/+1
Rings (Doesn't really matter)
High breath mantle
Haste belt (Swift/Koga/Speed/Velocious)
Byakko's haidate
Usukane sune-ate

I dont understand the Merman's rings. Even if you are going for a build to survive Citadel Buster, you can just macro those in. Forget the Merman's rings and put on a Mermaid's ring and a Bomb Queen, or somthing else to that effect.

Also, same argument about Merman's earrings. Macro those in if you really need to, but Eris' Earrings should be there or perhaps some elemental earrings if you are going for ele resists (but again, should be macrod in anyways, not there on casts). If your HP is really an issue if you are close to the HP of getting one shot, then I guess you could put +HP there...I'd stick with Eris for the enmity though.

Also, as previously stated, High Breath Mantle is pretty sweet for +5 enmity and like 30ish HP (its just a little annoying for longer fights since you cant use ma or ja for a few seconds after using) and its cheap. Dusk gloves are definitely the way to go if you aren't kiting, and if you are I would toss on either some enmity gloves or Seiryu's kote if you really need HP.

And for gods sakes, don't use evasion unless it just happens to be on a piece you are using for some other reason. If you ARE going to be evasion, then you use things like Musical earrings for +5 evasion skill each, evasion torque, boxers mantle etc. Evasion skill > just evasion. But evasion tanking is kind of a thing of the past now anyway, especially for Omega/Ultima.

Reason I mention hades saindy is because i've just been hit physically once during the fight, making earth staff useless. Obviously the stats I want from hades sainty is +7 enimity, not +7 evasion, although ultima has low acc. On THF in full eva gear ( 314 skill and +60 ish evasion) it cant hit me.

I realize that I could just macro merman's in when I see a tp move, and stick to + enimity otherwise.
I dont have any enimity ear/ring atm though so. I forgot about high breath mantle too, might get that.

Yea, I don't think Hades Sainti is a bad idea as long as things are under control...really just depends how worried you are about getting hit, although you can't take advantage of your high Parry Skill with the sainti equip vs using Earth Staff (although thats kind of minimal).

i used locq and etheral earrings, in conjuntion with lamia mantle+1. gives me 88 MP as galka subbing /drk.

then i use arhat's jinpachi+1. a nice little peice to wear while tanking is trance belt, since you dont blink when switching into swift belt for spells.

Gearswap gearswap gearswap. You want a swap for magic dmg, a o-shitswap for shadows down, you shouldnt have time to idle much, so the last set is more or less idle/casting swap. What you want in magic dmg swap should be fairly clear, pretty much MDB and -magic dmg taken in any slot you can fit. Very few moves are so fast that you wont be able to swap into your magic dmg set.

O-shit swap is for when shadow is down, here is where you put arhats head, earthstaff (your right on the money with hades sainti), maybe jellyring if you are comfortable other then that as a nin, i would probably focus more on +parry and+evasion then +vit and +def, even if nin can get a great pure dmg-reduction set if you choose to go that way.

As for the idle/casting set, your bread and butter i would use.

Weapon: Hades
Head: Walmart turban
Body: hq Arhats
Backpiece: Cerb or resentment (not high breath, its trash as it lockes your backslot up and you cant use resentment, boxer, gigant, lamia+1. You only get enmity, no type of dmg-reduction)
Neck: Ritter gorget
Hands: Dusk
Belt: Swift/speed/velocius
Earrings: A choices from eris+1, hades+1 (if you want a mp/enmity combo), loq earring.
Rings: Enmity or Hp rings, sattva is good.
Legs: Byakko
Feet: Usukane
Ammo: Enmity shuriken

Good magic dmg pieces are the merman gear, resentment/lamia+1, resolute belt, shadowring, denali hands, lamia bow+1, storm turban

Good o-shit pieces are eartstaff, arhats head+1, boxermantle/shadowmantle, neck evasio or parrying if your parry is high, denali hands or the darksteel gear if you wanna go overboard.

I think you get the idea.

Arezael, What shell are you in?

When I tank I get March/March and use 13% haste. 13% haste puts your recast timer at 50% with haste and 2 marches. Everywhere else use enmity. You have macros to use when you're going to get hit, which you should be able to see coming. Full-time damage reduction gear is rather counterproductive based on what you're planning to use it for, and should only be done when it's Arhat's since you use it being the highest (realistic) enmity body piece.
Earth Staff should only be used Fulltime if you're fighting something that wipes shadows quickly. Or if you can't count to four, which I hope isn't a problem.

Damage reduction gear should also include HP gear. Enmity decay based on taking damage is calculated by your max HP and damage taken, so make sure to load HP where you can't get high DEF or Dmg-%. Things like Bomb Queen Ring, Gigant Mantle, Happy Egg, and Seiryu Kote.

Oh, I didn't know the enmity loss formula is based on max HP. MY 'O shit' macro is purely evasion atm, basically translation from the one I use on thief:

Empress hairpin. +10 eva
Evasion torque.+7 skill
evasion earring.+3 skill
Novio earring.+7 eva
usukane body.+12 eva (+8 INT for magic dmg down)
Master caster bracelets. +10 eva skill,+10 skill parry too I believe.
two agi+4 rings.
Boxer mantle
eva+10 agi+5 belt ( total +12), forgot name.
AF2 leg (+10 eva at night)
eva+6 feet, forgot name.

ANd my parry is almost caped, 261/269 :D

I use this except I don't have Usukane Feet and Hades Sainti. I full time Earth Staff because I don't need the extra enmity to maintain hate for what I do and it's money that I'd rather not spend. Plus it does give me the -20% phys damage for when shadows go down which does occasionally happen with Omega. I do prefer loq. earring though, it gives a lot of MP and enhances fast cast for a slight decrease in cast time and reduced recast as well which to me outweighs anything you'd get from +enmity.

I don't usually tank Omega in regular tanking gear, I just use my TP gear, so I can't really comment on his evasion. If he regularly is missing you then decide what you feel is best. If you'd like to read more about the Enmity Decay based on damage it is here:

I used to do about the same on RDM. I used maca´s+1 to cap CE as quick as possible, then i would swap over to terra's and just spam blind untill i took some dmg, then i would spam a few dispels. RDM has unlimited access to VE spells tho, so they have less need for enmity. I know nin has a good choice of VE spells to, but nothing like 1.3 sec cast-time every 5 seconds for 600-ish (i dont have exact number in my head) base VE. Wich is why i would use a little more enmity on a nin.

I wouldnt use emp-pin and usukane over Arhats+1. If its a little bit harder mob i would prolly focus more on parry then evasion, especially with your high base.

I donno abt ultima but for omega, that is really no need to count for shadow. With elegy and slow 2 on omega, it attack so slow that you will have time to get utsusemi ICHI up. Especially on mob that use AoE alot that remove shadow, it is not wise to remove shadow (esp when u can get it up easily).

Beside that i guess you must also remember that when you are ninja tanking, you are relying on SHADOW which mean that your shadow recast should be as short as possible which also mean that you need to have haste gear on (or at least when you are doing Ni.)

From my above statement, you can conclude that you need to wear byakko haidate and the haste belt. Dusk gloves when you are not kiting. Or otherwise you can always mule in when doing Utusemi Ni

Beside that usually when i am doing Utusemi Ichi, i will mule in evasion skill, evasion and parry gear in to help me successfully cast Ichi. Ichi do not really need haste at all. My setup usually go Evasion skill > Evasion > Parry > Haste (Because my parry is not capped <,<)

Why get double march if you are /drk? Idk about you, but as nin/drk I definitely find myself low on MP if I'm not getting ballad at least part of the time, and you definitely want to maximize the number of spells you are casting. Being low on mp as nin/drk drove me nuts.

Not to mention turban, haidate, dusk hands, swiftbelt, fumes, haste spell and victory march is already 5+5+3+4+3+15+11= 46% Haste, so you are wasting a song to get another 4%.

Which is why I don't wear those. Usukane Sune-ate, Byakko, Velocious caps my recast for spells. I also usually tank with two bards, so I get two ballads anyway. Even when I don't, I toss in a ninjutsu spell and my recasts are back up by the time I can cast again.

I honestly question the necessity for two BRDs and in my opinion, if you require two BRDs for anything, there's a problem: Either you cannot perform or will not perform. Either way, two bards is entirely unnecessary and can be replaced by much easier to find setups.

I wouldnt go as far as calling 2 brds in tank-pt a waste of a spot, cause you very rarely go with 18 for anything anyways. But when you dont have 18 that brd is still a waste of a resource, cause he could be a DD, or if you dont have a brd in the other 2 Pt's, he could be a brd there. And if you do have more then 18, then it is a waste of a spot, cause you could just aswell squeeze in a DD in that spot to.

Basically you're having a second brd make up for lack of skill or gear. Either way you turn it, it still is a sort of a waste. Not that it matters, unless you are actually depending on that second brd to be able to tank at all.
