Teleportation May become reality

In 100 years if we are still using disk drives the world will be a sad sad place.

We will record data and audio on the purest of formats.

PURE WATER.

That is, until someone in the band decides to bathe with it.

"You're drinking the drum track!"

This season hasn't been as good as the first season, but still pretty good.

Actually, one scientist have made a computer based on chemistry. He mixed several substances, and made a computer that read it. Through electrical impulses, the fluid changed color patterns and wave-formations based on what was intended to be recorded on it.

Speaking of which - the future in engineering is sound. You heard it here first.

or not, it depends on if you did heard it before now or not <.<

if it was ever done, it would basically disprove the existance of a soul

which more or less kills religion of most kinds.

considering that only a fraction of the population is atheist or believes in a religion in which the soul is not existant, it would be a devastating blow to the resolve of billions of people.

lol, but you realize that the *first* time it kills someone, it'd then be an unacceptable risk.

It wouldn't be like a car wreck or a trainwreck where bodies are seen (mostly) and we KNOW they are corporeally there...nothing would be left. That person's very fiber would be scattered, leaving no trace. I think that in itself would be an unacceptable risk (especially in the eyes of many people).

Consider: would *you* put someone through something where you weren't certain they'd come out the other end? And I'm not talking "he might get in an accident, so we'd bury the person later", I'm talking no freaking trace of existence.

More like Quantum cloning/recreation, teleportation this is not.

For this to work, you'd have to have similar matter to rearrange at the destination point. Meaning another human being.

Not really, If scientist able to cover Matter/Atom into Light, it can able to do teleportation, think like fiber optic

PC data 1s and 0s, converted into light, travel thru a cable, convert back to 0s and 1s at the destination.

Same basic can do with Teleportation, unlike in anime or cartoon, a teleport machine convert human into light, then travel thru a cable just like internet, and arrived at the destination with another teleport machine and light converted back to human.

It is possible for this way to do it, but down side is that it light = travel in speed of light, if you want to get to 1 galaxy to another, it'll take many years. you may turn into skeleton bone or dust when you arrived, and is less advance then Darkdante's theory. But Darkdante's Theory is really really advanced, may take hundreds or thousand of years before it can really work.

OR you can do what NASA theory is saying, Go to the worm hole/black hole and see where you ended at the end of the tunnel. They believe worm hole is a warping device that bring you to 1 area in the universe to another.

The teleportation scientists are currently working on, is to "teleport" (read: deliver) information at the speed of light. It simply makes the light merge to be in the same quantum-state (not sure if that's the english words for it, though <.<) as the atoms, and then send that light in to another cloud of atoms, and make the light merge with the atoms again, so that they become the same state as the atoms in the other cloud, which can then be read binary. It doesn't actually teleport atoms, it simply transports its information with the help of light.

While its true that you can make energy in to matter and vice versa, no scientist currently know how you can turn energy in to matter, only the other way around. Sure, when they can manage to turn energy in to matter, it could, theoretically, be possible to transport matter to remote locations. However, it would not be possible to teleport them across the universe. Not only because it would take several life times just to get anywhere, but also for it to even be possible, you need to think of a way to send the information out to another place. Radio waves would be way too slow, and they're way too weak to send such complex information. It would also spread out over a too large area, further weakening the signal. Then you have a laser beam, which is just not possible. While yes, it is a focused, strong signal that could go on forever. But if anything is in the way of it, it'll vanish and be unable to proceed forward.

Also, it wouldn't exactly teleport people. It would be a very advanced cloning technique.

Besides, even if you COULD find a way to teleport a human body by turning them in to light and then send them to a remote location, there's still one very hard obstacle to overcome. You'd need to rebuild one of the most fragile and advanced parts of the human body, with all of the trillions of brain cells and the billions of tiny nerves, exactly the way it was before. Otherwise that person could suffer serious memory loss, mental damage, handicaps, blindness, etc. And in worse case, brain death or death. Naturally, this isn't really anything scientists talk about, but I'm sure its one of the main reasons teleporting living animals is as close to impossible as you can get.

Sandra Bullock has been mine since forever and a day (yes, that's an exact amount of time) so back the fuck off!

BTW, Jesse James deserves death via teleportation with a teletubbie in the chamber as opposed to a fly.

Sorry if I misinterpreted this, but,
"It is an aspect or a 'property' of the original ball that has been transmitted rather than the ball itself. Although to complicate matters the process of transmission would destroy the original ball."

Would that not mean they basically copy one's information, recreate it elsewhere, and destroy the original? I personally find that concept absolute horrifying, not to mention so incredibly error-prone (radio interference or even a static shock on hardware could mutilate someone)

Not to mention there's already so much fussing over whether cloning should be allowed or not. I can't see how they'd possibly pass this yet completely argue over the ethics of cloning. =/

Also, I remember seeing a cartoon of a similar transportation device when I was little, except it was two machines side-by-size and it basically cloned the person in the 2nd machine and killed them in the first. o.o;

The movie "The Prestige" comes to mind.

Pasq, dont make me turn this into another "why I think Sandra Bullock is ugly" thread

Wormholes would be nice - If you could find one...

It may also be possible that assuming it was perfected and used on a human, the human would appear on the other end as a perfect copy, but a vegetable.
Probably best for inaminate objects only - assuming it works on large clusters of molecules, and isn't restricted to single atoms.
