So uhhh who the hell complains about this... I sure know it wasn't EA Sports hanging around tracking P2P networks. If I wasn't uploading would I also get flagged? Are you more at risk if you attempt to download the newest just released shit?

My friend got cable from a small provider in his town in TN. Without naming the movie (namely because I can't remember what it was), he downloaded a movie that JUST came out. I honestly can't recall the movie's name, but it was a Sony Picture production. Anyway, he DLed it off of bittorrent. Literally 2 minutes after the torrent completed downloading, he received a call from his ISP telling him his account was warned and any further illegal downloads would result in termination of his account.

So yes, this type of thing happens. I'm not really sure how it gets noticed, but it definitely does. It seems a more common thing on smaller ISPs (Comcast never seemed to care what I DL'd for example).

Oh snap.

Seems like a good plan from their side, if it was indeed the developer, producer, or publisher. Host a torrent, be the main seed for it, then narc on everyone who eats from the palm of your hand.

I'd check with the Razor team to see if they did indeed publish that torrent, and if there's any known heat on it. I'm on Shaw, I've been acquiring some files of the same nature as this for the past 3-4 days, and I haven't heard anything. Isn't my first time either.

Agreed about the comcast bit, I've never had any problems whatsoever

I found someone on another forum that got the exact same Telus complaint a couple weeks ago.

http://www.theisonews.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=2088269

"That mail is nothing, they won't go to court. Two years ago I received 6 warnings in a month, never heard anything about it after that."

I don't exactly know how truthful that is either but I'm beginning to think that it was just a fluke, out of the fact that the software is less then a month old and EA prolly paid an agency that monitors P2P downloading to focus their attention on it.

I'd say just switch to one of the bigger companies that doesn't care.

I'd be willing to bet the only reason the smaller companies actually care is they could actually be hurt by a lawsuit if someone used their company to pirate movies and such; whereas something like comcast is so big they wouldn't care. It'd also be harder to track with the vastly larger amount of traffic larger companies get.

Telus is a huge company. They are the largest telephone and DSL service provider in the Pacific Northwest and may be branching to Television soon. I don't even know any other ISP's worth considering other then Shaw/Rogers or Telus, those two dominate Canada's market for telephone, dsl/cable, and television.

Oh, you're in canada? I'd never heard of the company before so I figured it was fairly small, but I guess it's just Canadian.

lolCanada...

That really sucks, best switch providers so you can get that free warez!!!

Jrod - why do you keep capitalizing the US in Telus?

And is Cox seriously the name of a real ISP? Reminds me of the ever-popular bearing company named Fag.

My bad on the capitalization, when he said the Pacific Northwest, I took that to mean both US and Canada, and followed that to TelUS possibly being an abbreviation of Telecommunications US.
That makes sense. Up hurr Telus is just straight brandname. I thought they would've been world-known by now given all the customer support union issues they've enjoyed over the past 5 years or so.

Good read on the rest of your post... aint that some shit. So there's a cap, so to speak, on the number of files you can share without getting prosecuted. Penetrated?

Bell 4tw.
Rogers are money grubbing scum and telus full of retards.

Bittorrent works by similtaneously uploading and downloading... you can get in trouble for both but they go after people uploading more than downloading.

And dont go pirating games,... support the work these guys are doing. video game makers aren't bastards like say the music industry.
